AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

I'm glad it's not just me! Is that really what some people do, wash a towel after using it only once, to dry a clean freshly washed body??

Yep same, I wouldn’t dare tbh. Mine has a timer and sometimes I set it to come on at 7 o’clock on a Saturday morning, but that’s because I know I’ll be up

To leave the house at 7, you'd have to be putting on your washing at 5 am surely?

We're in a semi so I would never put the machine on that early.

I don’t see what’s so amazing about doing 2.5 loads in one day, once a week. We easily do two loads a day, every day.

I'm constrained by drying space - I've a couple of clothes horses (that I've just realised I've had for over 20 years, since I was a student 😂). I also have a good clothes line in the garden but that's no use for much of the year. I don't iron. We're a family of 3 and there is always laundry in the baskets, on the dryers, in a pile ready to put away - it's constant. I probably do 4-6 loads a week, most at weekends.

Yes I’m this way inclined. Washing towels after one use is ridiculous imo

Maybe she is of the "wash it when it's dirty" approach rather than wash it just because it has been worn for a short time. Or is happy to use towels for a week rather than washing every day.

My dd does it this way.

no tumble dryer - she has lots of airers and hangs on the line or in the airers.

i do mine when I have a full load.

2 disabled children and a large family here. I have an 11 kg washer and do at least 2 loads a day ! Often more.
So I do the equivalent amount to your friend most days . You just get used to fitting it in though I admit to never ironing! That would be a step too far.
If i ever win the lottery I am getting a laundry maid !

No. I have other things to do in the morning. I just couldn’t fit that in before leaving at 7:30/8
Getting dressed, sorting lunches etc.
I also live in Ireland where I don’t trust the weather 😅
When is the washing machine being put on? When you are asleep? That would freak me out tbh.

I’m surprised at the 2’5 loads. I generate that just myself - my uniform is a mix of colour and white, then my towels and bedding. Any casual clothes.

thats the only bit that gets me. If I could be bothered I could do the washing, drying and ironing in one day easily. But I get distracted or my energy runs out. So the ironing is usually done as needed.

I do all the laundry in a day too. 3-4 loads. We don't have a dryer so it either goes outside or on the clothes horse, and as we have limited space I'd rather get it all done at once. Washing Sunday, still drying Monday, ironing and putting away Tuesday.

I do similar once a month as it's just me alone these days.

I have three loads a month to do (clothes, towels, bedding) and have colour coded baskets for each. They all tend to fill on the same day so I get them all washed and dried in one go and then put it away so I don't need to think about it for another month. You just need to start first thing and set timers to remind you something's done, and motivate yourself to do it immediately otherwise you run out of time.

I don't buy anything that would need ironing though. I can see how a family could easily do the same with once a week.

Of course it's an option if you work. I work and am out the house 7-4ish most days as I said if it's going to be a nice day you peg a load out and then bring it in when you get home. Isn't that what most people do?

My mind is blown at the amount of washing. I have a friend who claims similar amounts and I don't get it. We definitely have more washing than average because dh, dd and ds all do a lot of sport and dh has an actice job, plus we are a family who all use those ridiculous bath sheets as towels and i live by thr mantra my mother taught me which is "always buy bedding a soze bigger than the bed itselff"🤣🤣 but 2.5 loads a week? I cant even begin to get my head around that.

We do at least 10! Plus dh does a couple of separate smaller loads for his work clothes.

If you are in work all week then it’s not an option to do it during the week just because it’s nice weather.
I did mine yesterday. It was raining most of the day here. So yes, I use the dryer, mine is a heat pump though so not that crazy expensive.

and yes ours is family four and I have two loads per week.

Oh wow, i think we do a minimum of 7 with towels and bedding etc and we’re a family of 4 so not huge! I don’t think we wear loads of clothes but have gym/running kit for me and my husband, kids hobby clothes like karate/clubs/dance, school uniforms, PE kit…. All adds up I suppose. I also don’t have a drier (and surely if you do not everything can go in anyway and needs to dry on a line/airer?)

Laundry is literally the easiest domestic task there is, it takes minutes to sort and put the machine on. It's not rocket surgery.

We do all of ours on a Saturday (well DH does it). Around 5-6 loads. Doesn’t stop us going out though - we’re not sitting supervising the machines.

This is the age of the automatic washing machine. It's not the 70s when we had twin tubs that needed to be monitored and had several loads. That really was a half day event. Now you just need to put it in, turn it on and leave it so you can get on with the rest of your day.

I grew up with that. Sat morning was washing time. Unless there was som kind of emergency that was the only time washing mashine run. 4 of us.
I still do all in one day but it's only 2 of us.

I do 10-12 loads.
1-2 a day which get sorted into 3 baskets as they come out (apart from bedding and towels). All gets ironed and put away in a Saturday.

I have no understanding why people spend valuable time ironing. I just don’t understand it.

DH used to do his in one day when he lived alone. Put the washer on before work with sheets/towel, into the dryer when he hit home, and clothes in, then put the clothes in while making his bed (and cooking his dinner etc between thibgs as well.

Im guessing from what you say is that its the other end of things that you struggle with. I only iron my work clothes. I have two dc who take baskets up and down and sort into piles and put their own clothes away. Dh puts his clothes away. Its definitely been easier since theyve been older. Its all very quick with a dryer, plus I use the conservatory this time of year which dries things very quickly.
