AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

Family of 5 all done on a Sunday about two loads sometimes 1.5. All washed hung on the line and put away. Children pitch in. No one does ironing though none of us wear shirts or anything that needs ironing.

I'm old enough to remember my mum doing all the washing on a Monday. And probably ironing it all too as she watched Coronation Street.lol.
All the laundry for 6 people in a non automatic washer.

Possibly, the spin would definitely wake me up. It's not super loud but when everything else is quiet I don't know how far the noise travels.

I work outdoors and so does DH - all our stuff comes out perfectly clean on a 15 minute cycle. Putting it on for longer just seems like a total waste of time to me. It never comes out any cleaner.

We are a family of five I do probably 5 or 6 loads a week including towels and bedding. I put a wash on first thing then put it out to dry before work if time if not I stick dryer on when I get in and I try to put it away that evening so it doesn’t build up. But everyone puts they own laundry away so it’s a case of only putting mine, towels and bedding away the rest is left in each persons room to sort themselves. I don’t iron anything.

15 minutes wash on my machine is only useful on items I probably don't consider to be dirty enough to need washing at all.

Who remembers the poster many moons ago that used to have clean sheets every day?

I do all ours (although more than 2.5 loads) on a Sunday as most months EDF give free electricity then (dependent on how much we've saved during the week). I try to do the ironing then too, but don't always get it done, as I'm also using doing a batch of bread baking (to maximise free oven electricity).

It’s not a competition to get to the largest number of loads! Poor planet. Finding a way to avoid laundry taking over your whole week is admirable.

People have forgotten how to spot clean, I am still a big advocate of that. DH dropped chocolate on his jeans that had been worn for about 3 days, spot cleaned. There is dirt and then there is dirt dirt as I call it, that was just dirt. We had to do washing by hand till I was about 10 when my Mother got a twin tub.

I have never washed my sheets or towels weekly. We shower before bed and a towel is used when you are clean. Every other week is fine by me.

Of course it is - 15 minutes on a quick cycle at 40 degrees.

I can do a load of laundry in 15 minutes on a quick cycle. Get up, put laundry on, do what needs doing and hang it out before I go. I can get two loads done before 8am if I’m really on the ball 🤣

A general wash in my machine takes about 45mins-1hour. We live in a semi and have a quiet machine. It's never been a problem to get a load done and on the line before 7am.

The planet really is doomed.

Between that and changing multiple times a day I can see how people are aghast at the possibility of 2 loads a week.
when I come home I change into tracksuit pants and a top (if I was wearing a shirt to work) and I could wear that every evening for 3 evenings. I’m not going anywhere so it’s not a big deal. On the days my dc have clubs I stay in my work clothes. My ds doesn’t normally change out of his uniform unless he has a club. He wears approx 3 sets of uniform a week. He’s not messy. My dh gets a week out of his jeans, he showers daily, sometimes twice.
yes my dc do clubs but they are on a weds, Thurs and Saturday mornings so the kits can wait (they have more than 1 kit)

Are you washing clothes by bashing them with rocks in the river or putting them in a machine and pressing go?

This will horrify many, but especially the one towel use brigade. I recently lost my towel in the gym, so I dried myself with my t-shirt and then asked reception if someone had handed in a white towel “no, but someone has handed in a biege one” ah, that’ll be it! It has its own ecosystem at this point.

I sometimes do all mine in one day, but the weather needs to be on point. I get up around 6am and have it done by 6pm can be anything up to seven loads.

I really don’t think two loads of laundry is a big job! Minus the ironing - that might take a bit of time. I don’t iron, but I can easily shove a load each in the washing machine, turn it on, stick it in the tumble dryer then fold and put it away. It probably takes me a total of half an hour. It’s not like you actually have to do anything while the washing machine’s on. Imagine Victorian women reading this scrubbing away on their scrubbing boards, they’d be absolutely fuming!

I do, if I can get it dried outside in one day. It’s over two if it’s winter. As I don’t have a tumble dryer.

Waaait. I always thought that the excessive towel washing was an MN joke! 😱

My work do nearly 3 loads a day. 2 adults, 1 9yr old and twin toddlers. We line dry it all, no drier though
