AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

My washing machine is mega slow, it can take 3 hours
for a regular wash load. I usually put it on overnight we have a delay function so i can set it to come on while the electricity is cheap. So its ready to dry the next morning. In the summer we hang it outside in the winter we wait to the following night abd table dry it. If i am up early enough on a bright sunny day i might do a load in the morning while the solar panels are generating.

I actually get everyone up at 2am so I can change their bedding, only a neglectful minger would let their children spend more than 4 hours in unwashed sheets.

Unless your friend has an absolutely massive washing machine?

Because her friend is doing 2 loads per WEEK so uniform, PE kit etc can’t possibly be clean alongside all other clothes. Are you telling me that the OP’s friend doesn’t have DC? Please correct me if I missed that detail.
So many children - way more than you would think - have dirty clothes at school. The stench from blazers when it rains is eye watering.

I do 2 loads a week and that includes bedding and towels.

Her kids may well have multiple shirts etc that get washed at the end of the week along with blazer etc

We have 4 washing baskets and I have to do a load of laundry every day to stay on top of it. Never bother ironing though.

I’ve got a friend like this, I don’t get it either.

Theres only dd and I at home and I still do washing 6 days out of 7. I don’t have a tumble dryer so can only do one load a day due to space for drying unless it’s dry/hot outside.

Your friend is an absolute minger. Her kids are probably the sort who are a bit ‘ripe’ in their school uniform. Schools are despicably dirty places and trousers/skirts cannot be reworn. Clean shirt every day. Blazer washed once a week minimum. PE kit washed after each wear. She’s not doing the basics for her kids. In this house we have teenage skin issues so clean pillowcase every day to avoid re-infection. It’s load after load, but at least everyone is clean.

2.5 loads a week? Does she not wash bedding or towels?

There’s only 3 of us (2 who do sports) and I do about 5-7 loads a week. I do a couple of
loads during the week and the rest at the weekend. Also have a 9kg washer so I can do large loads!

I only iron once a week though, it is isn’t washed and dried by Sunday night it has to wait until the following week.

In the same. At a minimum a load a day and I’ve a 10kg machine. Find it’s less l in the summer as lighter clothes etc but in winter time it’s definitely 10 maybe more depending. Because as well as day to day to day clothes, towels and bedding, also have the uniforms, PE kits, sports clothes etc.

Also I couldn’t abide the thought of leaving damp towels mouldering for up to a week waiting to be washed

If I only had two and a half loads a week I’d get it done in a day too. That is how much laundry I do some days.

One benefit of.our bath sheets is i am militant on them not being washed frequently and I regularly have words with the dc if they are sneaking towels into the washing basket. Its a huge towel. You are clean when you get out of the shower. The bathroom is well ventilated and we have a heated towel.dryer that goes on for a couple of hours morning and night. Those bloody towels can be used for weeks! 🤣. Its the one redemption!

Exactly how I feel. I'm not going to work - or anywhere really, in creased and crumpled clothing.
Maybe people avoid ironing by only wearing polyester, and clothes like leggings?

The friend didnt say she has 2.5 loads a week..just 2.5 loads that week.Makes sense to me..sometimes I have more,some weeks I have less.

It depends on the size of your bedding and towels, and also your machine I guess.

I'm disabled so I shower every 2-3 days as I don't have the energy to shower every day and I don't leave the house most days. I'll re-use towels a bit since they are not really dirty after one use. I have 8 bath sheets and two hair towels which is roughly what my machine fits and they last me a month.

I overheat easily so have a single duvet on my bed despite it being a super king bed. I change it every 10 days so it's 3 sheets, 3 single covers, and 6 pillow covers to wash which again fits in one load.

Clothes - I have outdoor clothes (jeans / nice shirts) and indoor clothes (shorts and older shirts) and I'll wear the indoor stuff for a couple of days each - I swap every time I shower. The shorts barely take up space and the shirts are very thin/light materials as it's what I prefer.

It was closer to 9 loads a month when my OH was still alive as he preferred to layer up and wear heavy materials and slept under a standard double blanket alongside my single.

I do all mine on a Saturday. Bedding gets done on a Sunday but that’s because I do a full body shower and like to be clean getting into clean bedding, with clean pyjamas.

Because some fabrics crease and people look awful in creased clothes,esp at work. It’s not hard to understand

DD very sporty but her gear didn't bulk out the washing machine!

I do two loads a day as at least two of us do a sport every day, plus all the towels and bedding. 2 adults, 3 teenagers.

I use the eco setting which takes 3.5 hours but is significantly cheaper so even if I did less it couldn't all be done in a day!

See I’m confused by this, I emptied all my laundry baskets yesterday morning and did all my washing…so I have no more laundry! (Except a few small bits from yesterday) What are you doing that’s creating 2.5 loads overnight?!

Maybe, just MayBee she one of those rare people who doesn’t feel the need to bash the life out of clothing when it’s not needed.
Perhaps she’s aware of how many squillions of gallons of water is wasted unnecessarily with this obsession of washing something ( underwear excluded) that’s only been worn once.
