AIBU to share a hotel room with my adult children?

I have been divorced for over 20 years and have had no interest in finding another partner. I occasionally go on holiday with my adult children, DD27 and DS25. We sometimes stay in Airbnbs and sometimes in hotels. AIBU to share a hotel room with them? We each have separate single beds and each get changed and washed in the bathroom with the door closed. I can afford to pay to take them away (I like 5* hotels which my DC couldn’t afford to pay for themselves) but I couldn’t afford to pay for multiple rooms. Everyone is happy with the arrangement. AIBU?

Good grief no! I'm going away with my AC and I'm having my own room.

MeridaBrave · 02/05/2026 18:33

I don’t see the big deal. Why is this even an AIBU?

SapphireSteel28 · 02/05/2026 18:29

I do the same. It’s fine!

TomatoSandwiches · 02/05/2026 18:14

I'm assuming you are their father, if your daughters are ok with it then I can't see anything wrong with it so long as beds are seperate.
Personally I can't sleep with anyone about so I wouldn't go if I had to share with anyone, but that's just me.

Purplewarrior · 02/05/2026 17:57

YANBU. I do exactly the same thing.

Rewis · 02/05/2026 17:33

Totally normal. Don't knwo anyone who would get 3 separate rooms.

Confuserr · 02/05/2026 17:32

Nothing unreasonable about it. Although if you're able to afford actual 5 star hotels, I would have thought you'd all prefer the comfort and space of multiple rooms or a suite in a 4 star hotel.
Perhaps you mean hotels with a 5 star rating on booking.com or similar?

Timeandtune · 02/05/2026 17:31

Not only I have I shared hotel rooms with my 2 adult sons but we shared a cabin on the QM back from New York.
We are all compatible in our different ways.

maftaz · 02/05/2026 17:31

I share a room with my brother when we go on our military history trips. No issue as long as there are two beds. I am twelve years older than him, so I can get a few side eyes on check in. MILF alert ha ha, but that's a problem for bro not for me! 😊

OP, as long as all three of you are in agreement and happy with the arrangement, I can't see what the problem is!

Lomonald · 02/05/2026 17:31

I go away with my similar age daughters we share a room sometimes, I genuinely don't see the issue what is your issue ?

Pepperedpickles · 02/05/2026 17:30

If you’re all happy with it that’s absolutely fine. It’s how loads and loads of families afford to travel. We go away a lot (me, dh, dd aged 22 and Ds aged 13) and the kids (well, not really kids!) share a bed and dh and I share a bed and we all share a bathroom. It’s fine. We all use the bathroom to get changed in and the beds just to sleep in at the end of a busy day. We couldn’t afford to travel as much as we do if we didn’t do it, I’m in a lot of travel forums and tons of other people do exactly the same. Dd and ds would rather share together than Ds with dh and dd with me because Dh snores and fidgets horrendously. So I get stuck with him. Everyone is fine about it. Obviously if funds allow we would rather have 2 bedrooms- when we went to Ibiza last year we had a 2 bed apartment with a sofa bed in the lounge as well so a lot more space.

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/05/2026 17:30

I’m 38 and married with kids, and would still happily share a room, an even a double bed, with my mum if we went away together. Can’t think of any reason that would be an issue. Most of the world share sleeping spaces with their family.

sesquipedalian · 02/05/2026 17:30

If everyone’s happy with the arrangement, where’s the fire?

oviraptor21 · 02/05/2026 17:30

Also shared a room with DD and DS both adult. I shared a double with DD and DS had the other bed.

oviraptor21 · 02/05/2026 17:28

No problem at all. If necessary I share a double bed with my adult daughter although we try to get twins where possible.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 02/05/2026 17:28

What does it matter, so long as everyone is happy?

hahabahbag · 02/05/2026 17:27

As long as all are happy.

PeloMom · 02/05/2026 17:27

I wouldn’t do it as I can’t sleep unless it’s pitch black and super quiet and my DM likes noise on the background and some light. If we were sleep compatible I wouldn’t see why not.

Nofeckingway · 02/05/2026 17:25

Very Schitt's Creek

Bluegreenbird · 02/05/2026 17:24

Also single with adult DC. We share when we go away. I bunk in with DS. Single beds. No drama.

JustGiveMeReason · 02/05/2026 17:23

I agree with @Heisrevising

Why are you even asking ?
Why would it be an issue ? Confused

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 02/05/2026 17:12

Not only do I share a hotel room with adult DS, but I actively choose to share with him over my mum. He would rather share with me than his brother.

cestlavielife · 02/05/2026 17:11

If you were all german you would probably just get changed wherever and in front of each other. No one would care
If everyone happy what s the problem

CynicalSunni · 02/05/2026 17:08

I have shared hotels with my mum when we away together just us. Do not see why we wouldnt.

Only had an issue once where the hotel for some reason thought frosted glass doors were private enough. They were not.

GreenSmallBird · 02/05/2026 17:08

why is this a problem? Some of my happiest memories are of me, my husband and our two adult kids sleeping in a row in a hotel. We had a very funny time in New York sleeping in a room where we were all in bunk beds. The money we saved on booking multiple rooms was spent having a whale of a time. So long as everyone respect each others bathroom time what’s the issue?
