AIBU to share a hotel room with my adult children?

I have been divorced for over 20 years and have had no interest in finding another partner. I occasionally go on holiday with my adult children, DD27 and DS25. We sometimes stay in Airbnbs and sometimes in hotels. AIBU to share a hotel room with them? We each have separate single beds and each get changed and washed in the bathroom with the door closed. I can afford to pay to take them away (I like 5* hotels which my DC couldn’t afford to pay for themselves) but I couldn’t afford to pay for multiple rooms. Everyone is happy with the arrangement. AIBU?

Of course not, in fact it's lovely being in the same room.

Doctor1988 · 05/05/2026 15:08

Of course it’s okay if everyone is happy with it!

What does puberty have to do with it? The mind boggles.

No need for boggling. In my experience, that’s when people start to want more privacy.

As I said in my post, it’s my preference. If it suits others to share that’s up to them.

I would hate it. I don’t understand why folk share post puberty. I would rather go somewhere cheap, or not go at all. So I do find it unreasonable.

But if you’re all ok, go ahead.

To take a large dump

🤣

Why use the comparison of a friend then?

Not sure what needs explaining there 🤣

MermaidMummy06 · 04/05/2026 23:20

I think it's entirely reasonable if you share a room and everyone is happy. I have shared with my parents previously when we travelled to a family engagement party. Meant I wasn't copping the cost of a room I couldn't afford & we only slept & showered there.

I also think it'll become more common as prices are now prohibitive. I'm also now agreeing to stay with people rather than hotels if travelling for a reason/visit (if invited). Previously hell would freeze over before I'd do that. I like my space.

Me and my parents used to have trips to London and I always shared with them. I had the pull out sofa bed. Why spend more on multiple rooms if you don't have to?

DelilahBucket · 04/05/2026 22:33

Can't see a problem with this if everyone is happy. I shared a room with DS at 16 while DH was in a separate room recently (snoring problem). Nothing weird about it. We vacated the room for the other while one for dressed or just used the bathroom to dress. The only reason we wouldn't all share a room is if one of the beds was a sofa bed or camp bed, so not a proper bed.

I'd only share with a friend of the same sex, unless there was no other option.

You wouldn’t share with your adult children?

Personally I would hate this but if all of you are happy with it, who cares what anyone else thinks?

NotAnotherScarf · 04/05/2026 21:59

I've shared a one bed cabin in the middle of nowhere with my wife, her aunt and uncle... nothing wrong with it.

Apart from the bloody big spiders

mindutopia · 04/05/2026 21:54

It’s fine as long as everyone is happy. I definitely shared with my mum up to probably 30. Around then, she started snoring and grunting like a walrus and I put an end to that arrangement sharp ish, because the sound all night was unbearable. 😬

Legsahoy · 04/05/2026 21:54

I’ve been on holiday with my dad several times and shared a room with two double beds in it (one bed each). I wouldn’t think about getting separate rooms.

I’d be less keen sharing with my sister again though as she’s a night owl!!

properidiot · 04/05/2026 21:46

I share cruise cabins with my 2 friends and we organise ourselves exactly as you have described. All perfectly fine and acceptable I think. I also wouldn't hesitate sharing with my adult DCs either and often do with DD who is late 20s.

Angrybird76 · 04/05/2026 21:36

I shared a bed with my mum on her 50th when the hotel messed up when we were going to see dirty dancing. Who cares!

LlynTegid · 04/05/2026 21:34

If everyone is happy then why not?

Loub1987 · 04/05/2026 21:22

Would happily share a room with my Mom.

Ewwe 🙈

RedRock41 · 04/05/2026 20:46

Sounds great to me and creating special memories for all. Nothing unreasonable in slightest as you’re family. 💓

MumsTheWordYouKnow · 04/05/2026 19:21

Why would you need your own bathroom?

To take a large dump

SummerFleurs · 04/05/2026 20:40

I could never share with my mum but we’re not close. I’d happy to share with my DD when she’s older if she’s comfortable. As long as your all happy with the arrangement then it’s ok

Just never book a Z hotel in London - the bathroom is frosted glass to a certain height and clear above that 😱

Biggles27 · 04/05/2026 20:33

I was away with f24 dd a few weeks ago - shared hotel room - I think it’s perfectly fine

If nobody minds there's no issue.
