Fed up with ladish DP and his mate

Couples night out yesterday - we got the train to the next city, and got the last one home. A boozy evening, really nice time.

DP and this particular friend are big in to their football and can be a bit ‘ladish’ after a few drinks. I roll me eyes usually as does his mates wife.

The station platform was really busy and a staff member was trying to move people. He did become a bit abrupt and some people accused him of being rude, I think he was just stressed.

Anyway, he kind of tripped and just about stopped himself from falling over.

Lots of people cheered, and then DP and his mate started a football chant aimed at him - “you fat bastard” which some others joined in with.

I felt sorry for the bloke. DP says he was being rude so got some deserved stick and it was ‘only lighthearted’.

Am I being a killjoy as he put it?

I’d be incredibly turned off by this behaviour and unless he expressed proper remorse and I believed that he was sorry I’d be really unhappy

He’s in construction so a very male dominated industry. Which he also points out as being a reason why he’s used to more robust ‘banter’

Yeah hes probably really derogatory about women then too and uses his job as an excuse 🙄

I worked in a very male dominated environment years ago and noone acted like a bully

Yeah, your husband is a cunt.

No better answer than this.

Thaigreencurryrules · 02/05/2026 11:08

You have sex with this person? Behaviour like that makes my knees clamp shut!! It is vile, childish and unnecessary.

Balloonhearts · 02/05/2026 11:08

God that's unattractive. You really need to raise your standards.

🤢🤢🤢
Baffles me how anyone would find behaviour like this attractive. I cant even stand drunken behaviour tbh.

Labelling it "laddish" does not make it better. Hes and unkind and mean person.

Your boyfriend and his mate are idiots.

'Banter 'can be OK between friends and close colleagues if everyone is in on the joke. This guy was doing a job to keep people safe on the station platform late at night and was subjected to open and loud ridicule in front of a crowd of people. That was definitely not ok.

My DH is also in construction and has never once behaved like that in public or private. Please don't blame his industry for his bullying. He's disgusting.

properidiot · 02/05/2026 11:06

Robust banter? Fine, tell your mates they are fat bastards for a bit of banter if you all appreciate it.

But shouting it out to a complete stranger who is just trying to do his job - keeping people safe on a train station platform - is not banter. Poor guy. Sorry OP but your DP sounds like a bit of a dick to me.

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/05/2026 11:05

He’s not “laddish”, he’s just a prick.

Hopefully one day he’ll do it to the wrong person and get his face rearranged.

rainbowstardrops · 02/05/2026 11:04

It wasn’t ‘laddish’ banter, it was pathetic bullying.
When he went to ‘construction college’, was one of the modules he had to pass, how to be a drunken prick?
Honestly, what do you see in him?

Banter is a two way thing though. Like with mates or people he works with. He didn't even know the train guy who was just trying to do his job. There was no need to try and humiliate him.

Sassylovesbooks · 02/05/2026 11:00

Ah the construction industry! An industry that I have worked in many years ago. Yes, the blokes can have banter between themselves as men do. Personally, I found that if I was respectful towards them, they were towards me too. In fact some became good friends, and I knew if I was in the slightest bit of trouble, they'd have my back.

Your partner is using his job, as an excuse to behaviour poorly. The man at the station was likely stressed, trying to keep customers safe, who'd had a few too many. Being abusive towards staff, who are trying to do their job isn't acceptable.

Yeah, your husband is a cunt.

Yeah, this sums him up.

I'd be completely embarrassed and ashamed to be with him. It'd be the end for me.

SpaceRaccoon · 02/05/2026 10:54

Ewww. What a fanny-clanger.

SunMoonandChocolate · 02/05/2026 10:52

In your shoes OP, I'd be waiving this one goodbye!

This was not banter, it was abuse. Open your eyes.

Aliceinmunsnetland · 02/05/2026 10:36

And what exactly does this bloke bring into your life? You say you are fed up with his behaviour so why don't you dump him and find a proper man as opposed to someone who acts like a stupid kid?

100% this. I'm sure you can do better than this simpleton.

AStonedRose · 02/05/2026 10:49

I'm afraid your husband is a cunt, OP. Really sorry.

sunflowersandsunsets · 02/05/2026 10:49

Your partner is a bully.

Purplewarrior · 02/05/2026 10:47

That kind of behaviour would definitely give me the ick and I wouldn’t want a relationship with anyone that immature.

singthing · 02/05/2026 10:47

That has got to give you massive ick. No coming back from that kind of behaviour.

ERthree · 02/05/2026 10:45

Your Husband is an arrogant bastard. Ladish behaviour in a grown man is pathetic and unattractive, arrogance is abhorrent. How on earth can you share your life ( and bed) with such an awful man?

Let's hope the pathetic cunt falls from a ladder and see how he likes recieving the abuse he loves to dish out

I hope you do t have kids because the thought of fucking vermin like that reproducing is vomit inducing.

Lobleylimlam · 02/05/2026 10:43

Biggest ick i've ever read. Something i'd expect from 12 year olds in the playground. I'd really struggle to be with someone who behaves this way tbh. Really immature. Poor bloke trying to do his job and gets humiliated.
