Pretend you're swallowing a big piece of meat.

Have been to the hospital for a Gastroscopy. Consultant came to have a chat before the procedure, just him and I in the little room.
He explained what would be happening and said " as the tube goes down, pretend you're swallowing a big piece of meat".

I was nervous about the procedure and once it was done, I was chatting to a male friend and mentioned the comment above.
Friend says to report him as that's unacceptable language from a professional and thinks it was a sexual innuendo.

Also thinks it would have been inappropriate to a vegan or someone with eating issues.

YABU : It was an innocent remark.
YANBU: Dirty minded consultant.

I didn’t realise this was misconstrued to be sexual. I took it as meat is harder to swallow than veg, carbs, fruit etc so take a really big swallow/gulp 😬

If the consultant had said 'now imagine a large, girthed sausage being thrust up and down in your throat' then you might have grounds to be concerned!

Your 'friend' a loon and as a health professional that has had to describe similar procedures, the wording is different from what I use, but far from suggestive!

Ridiculous. I haven't eaten meat in 40 years and don't find the comment bothersome. If they had said imagine it's a big cock it would have made my day laughing tbh.

And what did your "friend" say when you responded "Don't be so fucking stupid"?

But do complain, because putting a doctor through a groundless-but-must-be-investigated procedure is just what the NHS needs.

Were you not sedated for this tube swallowing event? There is no way I could have a gastroscopy unless I was knocked out with those lovely drugs.

That is the issue here, not the consultant's instructions. OMG I feel like I'm choking thinking about it. I've had four endoscopies and no way would I do them while awake. No No No.
