AIBU to ask those of you voting Green what the Green Party immigration plans would cost?

This is the Green Party platform on immigration. How much will it cost the country to implement this?

  1. Implement a fair and humane system of managed immigration
  2. Treat all migrants as if they are citizens
  3. Give all residents the right to vote
  4. Help families to be together
  5. Dismantle the Home Office
  6. Abolish the No Recourse to Public Funds condition
  7. Abolish the ten year route to settlement
  8. Stop the profiteering from application fees
  9. Stop putting people in prison because of their immigration status
  10. Accept our responsibility for the climate emergency and support the people forced to move

Giving asylum seekers the right to work from day 1, while their application is processed, would be a good idea rather than allowing them to languish in hotels or worse, roam around seaside towns being a nuisance (I know not all are like that). Who would want to employ someone with no references or background though?

I don't know what you are hoping for here, what you are asking for is a complicated statistical model which would take months to work through the data on. Presumably the party suggesting it has done the work on feasibility. You can't expect people here to have the knowledge and access to statistical modelling tools.

I am more concerned about the costs if Reform gets in and upends the legal working status of many settled beneficial migrants. It would be the death of the NHS. We have settled migrants in every business of any size. It would tank our economy. We still haven't recovered from Farage's last leave the EU stunt.

Do you think the Greens have done modelling for point 10?

I’ve heard ZP speak and he is as evasive as anyone re direct questions. If he had modelled helping people across the world he’d have something in terms of figures.

Hasn't reached mid Suffolk yet though. You can't extrapolate from one place. Well, you can because you have, but it's no.more than one opinion. And you know what they say about opinions.

I don't actually, no. 😂

The Greens have only had mid Suffolk for 2 or three years. Come back and let's talk about it when it's been 10 or 15.

PinkMagpie · 01/05/2026 13:31

@PurpleNightingale i’m hoping for an answer to the question

How many people will be settling here as a result of climate change and how much (ballpark) will it cost for them to have access to public funds from Day 1

@MandingoAteMyBaby are you a Green voter? If so, is your opinion on their immigration policy platform?

Wow, there really seems to be a coordinated anti-Green campaign happening on here at the moment. Wonder who’s frightened of them…!

They probably do need to get better at answering questions rather than this response

@Crocsarentslippers that is projection on your part.

I’m also not remotely right wing.

I have asked a very clear question that anyone voting for this party should be able to answer. If you can’t answer it you need to look into it

@5128gap how do I know Green voters are ill-informed until I’ve asked them?

Also, there is a lot of ‘what about Reform’ on this thread

I'm cringing at how clever you think you are being, whilst you're actually being glaring transparent in starting another Green Party bashing thread.

We've had' Zack Polanski is Evil' & ' Zack Polanski is Obnoxious', now we have this.

I think Right Wing Mumsnet needs some lessons in subtlety.

Completely irrelevant to the local elections. I will be voting based on candidate’s characters and their plans for my local area.

I couldn’t care less what the policies of the national party they happen to be a member of are.

The national parties always take note of local elections. It shapes policy at that level too.

PinkMagpie · 01/05/2026 12:31

Interesting @FernandoSor how are you determining their character?

I take it you've not been to Brighton recently then? Although actually, I take that comment about NATs partially back. It won't just be NATs, it will be absolutely anyone who is happy to live in a cobbled together shanty town or 'trailer park' type place. Roma gypsies, newly arrived immigrants, anyone who can find a tent or build a shack or find something on wheels with space for a mattress. Coming to a town near you soon.

matresense · 01/05/2026 12:16

For those who just say “let the asylum seekers work”, how many will actually be able to? And of those who are able to, how many would be able to do so without recourse to public funds so that they are genuinely not costing money. It might actually cost more money if you are expecting an asylum seeker to be able to get housing benefit for his spouse and family on day one off the back of the minimum number of universal credit hours. And far far more likely that whole families will make the trip from day one, making it hard to send back even pretty sketchy applications. It’s not at all well thought through, it’s just vibes.

it beggars belief that people would vote for this (or reform tbh) if their main reason is disappointment in the Labour Party, given that most disappointment in the Labour Party stems precisely from a failure to prepare for governing and just relying on “we’re morally better than the other guys”, then being shambolic when in power.

I’m hoping that someone will release a decent, voted manifesto. But I won’t hold my breath!

millymollymoomoo · 01/05/2026 12:02

It will cost much more than the actual ££ in terms of culture, Islamism, freedom, safety,

titally and utterly dangerous and deluded policy which is not remotely funded let alone assessed in terms of cost to society

You're hilarious. We have a Green led council near my patch at the moment and your bonkers dystopia of New Age people everywhere has in no wise come to pass. I mean, I know these threads are full of rage baiting, but nobody is going to be stupid enough to fall for this one.

Thanks for the laugh though. 😂

Can you tell us what you believe can be achieved if they win? Obviously at a local level you can expect your streets and green spaces to be fill with clapped out caravans and converted old buses, permanently parked, untaxed and uninsured, full of new age traveller types because they know the council will be sympathetic and unlikely to move them on, as is the case in Brighton. So there's that to look forward to.

But on a national level? What you hoping for? Like, with the economy for example?

You have looked for the figures and failed to find them, which should have made it obvious they weren't in the public domain. Its also common sense that if you want to know the details of a party's policy you are better asking a party member than a prospective voter.
I did not say 'what about Reform' I used the support for Reform to illustrate the point that it is the norm for people to vote for a party without drilling down into every detail of their policies, and to beg the question why you would imagine that Green voters would be an exception.

The issue is the Green Party and the leader are just as evasive. When asked about how many or limits it’s the same as on here. Avoidance and bristling.

It’s a reasonable question, how many people across the globe can we support realistically for point 10. Very few probably, but how much will they push it and fund it.

The problem for the op is no one will answer.

PinkMagpie · 01/05/2026 09:25

No actually @5128gap i posted on here first and one of the posters told me to ask AI. Which I did. AI said there are no figures available

@zirafica can you enlighten us?

The ten points are worth seeing. They don’t look possible.

I don't disagree. I've not seen the figures and in all honesty I doubt I'd have sufficient understanding of economics to assess what I was looking at if I did.
At this stage in the game, the Greens are selling ideas and the ten points will alienate many people simply on principle, without the need to reject them on feasibility. I have to respect their transparency in stating their intentions so clearly on a deeply contentious topic.
I'm less interested in whether Green voters know the costs than whether these ten points have their backing and why.
