So bored of it.

This is nearly every mum in my area, pilates & matcha, botox and handyman & cleaner recommendations. No depth, no real worries..basic.

Aibu to want to meet funny, down to earth mums with depth and interesting pasts and conversations?

Oh God, it’s you who’s tedious. Painting all the school mums with the same brush, and thinking yourself superior.
How would you know about their worries in life?!
YABU.

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 29/04/2026 23:13

I don’t care, why would I? Unlike them I’m not trying to impress anyone.

If you don’t care then why do you notice these women and ‘cringe’ because of how they look and what they wear? And then come online to bash them. They ain’t trying to impress anyone either.

It doesn’t make you better or superior.

It’s fucking weird misogynistic embarrassing behaviour.

Tressle · 30/04/2026 01:00

It's very new, upper working class to have a cleaner.

then again mumsnet, now, is basically new upper working in general. Nothing wrong with that.
Home owner (owed to bank), SUV, dog etc.

However, values and concerns are alien to me. I recall 2012 MN, it was so different.

Cleaner threads are a bit cringe tbh.

Starlia · 30/04/2026 00:38

OP, your post is basic, shallow and lacks any evidence of humour, intelligence or deep thinking.

SassyButClassy · 30/04/2026 00:25

I didn't realise we'd already met!

Nopersbro · 30/04/2026 00:16

I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to share their worries with you until they know you a lot better and have reason to trust both your discretion and your judgement. If they share their matcha, though, you still end up ahead.

Moveoverdarlin · 30/04/2026 00:08

Shitty attitude OP. I fit that description a bit, I wouldn’t drink a matcha, but I’m a stay at home Mum, who has Botox and wears Sweaty Betty leggings, don’t have a cleaner or a handyman. None of the Mums at school would know that my Dad has two months left to live or that my MIL has advanced dementia and that my sister rings me every night because her marriage is going down the pan. I would love to return to my high flying career but there’s so much going on with three kids, ill parents and managing my house. I feel shit for not working, but would feel shit for putting kids in after school club and paying for child minders. I have enough confidence though to know I’m not some fucking Bimbo, Barbie, kept woman.

I’d love to have a few Mum friends at school to socialise with and share day to day stuff with, but never quite cracked any meaningful relationships. Perhaps you’ve hit the nail on the head OP, people think I’m empty and vacuous because, wait for it, I wear leggings and do yoga and have a bit of Botox.

ThreeTescoBags · 30/04/2026 00:03

I have endless worries, millions of 'em, I'm worrying about at least 20 things as I type. That's why I get botox. It makes me look like I have no worries.

Heaven forbid a woman wears something that isn’t flattering. What will the men think?

I’m sure many will look back when they’re older and think ‘at least I was comfortable’.

It’s just fashion, If people want to follow it then good for them.

It looks shit on men too

To be honest OP I would rather stick pins in my eyes than have anything to do with dungeons and dragons and I couldn’t even pretend to have an interest in horses. Don’t tell me, an acceptable outfit is walking boots, an old hoodie and some shapeless jeans?

Eh? I don’t like any of these things

Matcha - haven't had it in years 🤮

Socks over leggings - yes, been doing this 5+ years as started with knee-high compression socks when pregnant. I think I was ahead of the trend. 💁‍♀️

Botox- if I've got the money to spare. Last year it cost me $600. Haven't been able to justify the spend since, but I would do it regularly if I had the extra money. 🧏‍♀️

@SpaDaysForAll

why not? It doesn’t make them any less intelligent or credible than you

The intelligence of someone prepared to pump their face full of toxins all in the name of “looking good” is debatable, though.

I don't understand socks over leggins becoming a popular fashion choice. It looks hideous

Some of my leggings don't cover my ankles so when it's cold I wear warm wool socks over them. Can't speak for anyone else.

Happyjoe · 29/04/2026 23:22

I had to look up what Matcha is!
And socks over leggins, heck, I grew up with the Jane Fonda era. That's old hat.

And yeah, must be dull, like living in Amandaland where you are :-). I presume though these are not friends so these are safe topics at the school gates?

Ducklingfeet · 29/04/2026 23:16

Don't worry, OP. I'm sure if you look around you will find people with different skincare and exercise routines, who drink other kinds of hot drink and never wear leggings or socks. Hopefully they won't have good cleaners or handymen and will have lots of worries (perhaps because their houses are dirtier and poorly maintained?). This will make them interesting people and you will want to make friends with them.

Some people make quite a lot of money from
Instagram and good on them for it. Looks more fun than a proper job (not that I could ever be arsed to do anything like that as I barely remember to brush my hair).

If it makes people happy to look a certain way then leave them to it, no need to cringe.

No amount of money would tempt me to sell my privacy, clearly others are happy to do so.

But I wasn’t talking of actual influencers, just “real life” people who imitate them.

Save your energy. The walking “instagram” cliches won’t think twice about you.

I actually cringe when I see walking instagram cliches in the wild.

Agree its comfy. But today's uniform of oversized loungewear etc. won't age well because it's not aesthetically pleasing, it's quite unflattering. I think people will look back and cringe.
