So bored of it.

This is nearly every mum in my area, pilates & matcha, botox and handyman & cleaner recommendations. No depth, no real worries..basic.

Aibu to want to meet funny, down to earth mums with depth and interesting pasts and conversations?

I drink Matcha for the health benefits but I don't go to Pilates nor wear leggings,

replace the matcha with an oat flat white and that’s me. Basic I am not 😂 I consider myself quite good company 💃

Chai for me.

Bloozie · 30/04/2026 20:55

Women that exercise in appropriate clothing? Heavens.

I’m a basic bitch wearing leggings and socks right now. I’ve been on a hike and they wash and dry faster than anything else if they get muddy.

I wear them to Pilates with grippy socks (mat, not reformer - I’m not just basic, I’m old school) because I’m the kind of basic bitch that can stand on one leg with the other in the air while my husband fucks me from behind. I could hold an in depth conversation about my hip abductors and flexors for days.

I wear them to my strength class, where I lift heavy weights to distract from my completely lightweight brain.

I’d rather be a basic bitch than the mean girl snide nasty sort of bitch, though.

Tbf I could really do with a recommendation for a good cleaner and a handyman.

Probably people sick of discussing Trump, Palestine, Iran, CoL, Interest rates, Starmer, Farage, Immigration and all the other utter BS that dominates the news.

So tell me, what’s their favourite type of matcha?

Have you heard of west brigford? It’s London but in Nottingham all million pound houses and totally joyless people who wouldnt smile even if they could

My best friend lives in West Bridgford, she’s hilarious and full of joy!

grrrlatrix · 30/04/2026 20:23

You sound mean. This is why you don’t have friends.

This feels like rage bait… or more of a YOU problem. I don’t drink matcha, but I do do Pilates, and wear socks over leggings etc but do not let appearances fool you. I feel like if you tried to scratch the surface there is far more to these women that you are assuming are just boring middle class Mums with not much to talk about.
Me personally, I could be easily passed off as one of those at first glance. But I am very well educated and speak 4 languages. Not that I’m saying that makes me better than anyone I’m simply trying to say just because I wear leggings with socks and do Pilates doesn’t mean I’m brainless or incapable of intelligent or engaging conversation. I also have an incredibly difficult home life having lost a sibling very young in the last 6 months, another sibling with cancer and two aging parents with Alzheimer’s. If you tried to get to know these women I’m sure you would find there is a lot more to them than meets the eye. Everyone has their own stuff going on that you have no idea about. Why not even give them a chance before painting them all with the same brush? It doesn’t sound like you are making much of an effort at all. I think perhaps you should take a look at yourself before being so quick to judge others that you know nothing about.

MississippiCroc · 30/04/2026 20:15

What makes you think you’re funny and interesting?

Ha ha, yep plenty of self proclaimed ‘Nutritionists’ wellness type people, Cacoa ceremonies, therapists..all rich husbands too and created jobs maybe? I may be wrong

ZenNudist · 30/04/2026 19:56

I'm probably more your kind of person. Leggings yes but ankle socks, pilates not so much currently as I'm training for a half marathon. matcha definitely not. Interesting past, I think so. Deep thinker yes. Botox hard no . I'm also funny.

Wheredidallthegoodonesgo · 30/04/2026 19:55

Bingalinguist · 30/04/2026 18:17

Where do you live, if you haven’t yet said?

I’m guessing Home Counties!

I’m London and there are definitely certain types within a certain demographic in my area. Quite a few ‘nutritionists’ or ‘interior designers’ that - this sounds unkind and judgemental, but it’s just the truth - actually don’t earn anything and live off their husband’s high incomes. They seem to have moved on from Pilates to padel. All their houses look similar!

That said, within the same area there are plenty of down to earth and very individual women. You just need to find your tribe!

Sounds like the area you are in is one season or
trend behind. It’s moved on since then.

Yes most likely! The socks over leggings has been for far too long!

What is it now then?

okeydokeygail · 30/04/2026 19:51

I think most people you meet at first don’t seem to have depth or worries unless you meet them during an exciting or stressful event. People are naturally wired to try to fit in so they are unlikely to be deep and share their worries immediately (especially if they feel they’re being judged by you sneering at the superficial things you mention in your post, none of which indicates a lack of worries or character)

A skinny Americano?

Americano is a long, black coffee. How do you make it skinny?

No sugar?

I work with a mum like this it's so boring she just talks about the latest health food kick all day or fashion trend. She has no hobbies or interests. Just because her kids are the same age as mine she thinks we're meant to be besties but she bores me to death.

I prefer my mud covered horsey friends and my nerdy friends I play D&D with but none of them are mums. I don't feel the need for mum friends though, I just carry on with the friends I already had. I've never found a mum friend I have anything in common with other than having a toddler and who wants to talk about sleep regressions and toilet training all day?

Maybe give up on the idea of a stimulating group of mum friends and just carry on with the friends you already had for your interests and if you feel the need to talk about being a mum just accept it's going to be with other women who only want to talk about being a mum and don't expect the two groups to overlap.

Fashion and nutrition are hobbies/interests…

StarCourt · 30/04/2026 19:13

Can’t stand Matcha, tastes like dirt. I’d love a cleaner tho

Yeahyeahyeahnooooo · 30/04/2026 19:04

I would probably present a bit like these women. But fuck me, I've a stinking past, lived a wild life, swear like a navvy and have regular filthy thoughts. You just wouldn't know it from looking at me 😎

envbeckyc · 30/04/2026 18:51

I have never been part of the mummy in yoga clothes all day group… so I can’t comment!

I have always been part of the ‘working mum tribe’ running to pick up kids from the after school club arriving a minute before the end of the session.

I think we are too busy to worry about other Mums…

BunnyLake · 30/04/2026 18:49

How long are the socks? Are we talking ankle socks or knee length?

BunnyLake · 30/04/2026 18:45

What are you bringing to the table?

TheChosenTwo · 30/04/2026 18:37

mustwashmycurtains · 30/04/2026 09:46

OP I kind of agree with you.

as a Pilates-going Botox user myself I think both are great - but there is nothing more boring than people talking about them.

I do these thing quietly in private and do not discuss (with rare exceptions - if people ask specific questions) A lot of people I know seem to want to make it their whole personality and discuss nothing more interesting (see also - diets and food intolerances 🙄)

also - why are young people scared to reveal their ankles these days???

Regarding the ankles, I don’t like mine exposed! I have a thing about those knobbly ankle bones, they look vulnerable and I once had my clipped by a bike pedal (wincing as I type it!) so I prefer to keep mine covered.
also, I just get so cold so the less bare flesh the better for me! When I see people in cropped flappy trousers and exposed ankles I almost feel the chill myself 😂

This isn’t new, individuality died in the 90s. It’s normal now for teenagers & parents to dress the same.

Tbf dd and I own the same jumper and the same pair of trousers! Bought completely separately, she was at uni at the time, came home for Christmas and we were both wearing identical outfits 😂
