So bored of it.

This is nearly every mum in my area, pilates & matcha, botox and handyman & cleaner recommendations. No depth, no real worries..basic.

Aibu to want to meet funny, down to earth mums with depth and interesting pasts and conversations?

You sound quite judgmental. some of the realest, funniest and most interesting women I know fit that description.

Okay…

Says who ? 🤣. I think this is the point though. Some people are not wearing things because they are 'good ' it's becauseca group of their 40 something pals are dressed in exactly the same!

@mommatoone

says me. And lots of other people. What’s not to like about exercise and leggings with socks?

@Wheredidallthegoodonesgo

these things are popular OP because they’re good. Simple as.

It’s just the current "uniform" for a certain age group. Trends move so fast now because of social media that everyone ends up looking like a carbon copy of each other. I don't think it’s unreasonable to find it a bit exhausting, but it’s harmless enough in the grand scheme of things.

I'd rather be basic than at worst a troll on Mumsnet or at best judgmental and boring. Would love to hear what sets you apart from these other mums (e.g your rich and interesting life history!)

So bitchy.

Is being basic worse than being a ‘pick me’ though? It’s debatable.

I’d rather hear about Pilates and matcha than their kids. I get so bored talking to other mums who have no other conversation to offer than their kids. Dull as dishwater.

Milky green tea often with sauces added like cherry or chocolate 🤢

I’ve never got into matcha.

"No depth, no real worries..basic."

I can actually see a lot of potential in this combination. If you are a person of hidden shallows, you can at least feel that your own modest 2cm beats their 0cm. You don't have to worry that you'll end up having to worry about their worries. And, even if you are only a small be-socked shuffle away from average yourself, you get to feel like an arrestingly interesting non-conformist.

I was doing Pilates 35 years ago so no it’s not new. That was not my point. It’s the fact you felt it necessary to call someone thick as shit that annoyed me. Insulting someone’s intelligence is not an attractive trait.

The OP was generalising and you were being very personal. Which again just confirms which camp you firmly place yourself in. Groups of women have a terrible habit of ganging up on those that don’t conform which is usually why they all dress in leggings, go to the gym and drink the latest trendy drink. It’s about being part of the tribe or hive. Some of us are solitary bees happy to buzz in our own special way.

No it’s not personal, I think all people who make generalisations based on how woman exercise or what they drink are thick as shit. I don’t know why you are so offended by that but I’m not allowed to be offended about her making a generalisation about things I do and I can’t take that personally?
i am a loner, have Austim and have never conformed to trends so I don’t understand why you keep taking about tribes and solitary bees

Crwysmam · 02/05/2026 23:25

Harry12345 · 01/05/2026 18:46

You know nothing about me. Pilates has been about for decades. I have never followed the crowd or am part of a flock! Judging people on what they drink and how they exercise is more like a teenager. The socks and leggings is non negotiable for Pilates so it’s not a trend. I’ve been told all my life I’m different, I’m autistic, finding and exercise that helps my joints and a drink I love the taste of doesn’t make me part of a flock! You sound ridiculous

Matcha is powdered green tea.

Some people have it as a latte and bastardise it with flavours, but some people do that to coffee too. It's not representative of the real thing.

I understand where you’re coming from Op. I used to have a circle of friends that clearly weren’t my people. They were lovely and I enjoyed their company but the conversations were only ever superficial (Farrow & Ball colours 🥱) and I wanted something more meaningful, deeper, more fun. I felt awful whenever I was around them because I felt so different, I would question everything I said and later think I’d made a fool of myself by letting my natural self come out. You just need to find your people. These weren’t mine. I moved on and now have friends much more similar to me.
