Entirely lighthearted post for a dull Saturday morning in my house:

DH and I went to the shops yesterday. He went to shop 1 - let’s say it was Tesco. I went to shop 3 - let’s call it Wilkos. Shop 2, Argos is in a little arcade between the two.

I said I’d pick something up from Argos for him, and meet him back at Tesco after I finished in Wilko.

Turns out my shopping was taking a bit longer, so I text and asked if he wanted to go to Argos, rather than wait for me, otherwise I’d still pick it up on my way to him.

He didn’t reply for ages so I headed to Argos myself, within the arcade.

He eventually replied and said he’d go to Argos but I was already almost there, so told him not to worry. Told him to stay at Tesco and I’ll get the Argos stuff meet him there.

I got all the way to Argos, to see him walking out holding a bag. I was walking INTO Argos at this point. Very important to note that I was walking into it and he was walking out HOLDING A BAG.

He said he’d not checked his text after he said he’d go instead so had just headed there. He said this while WALKING OUT OF ARGOS HOLDING A BLOODY BAG.

Did our big Tesco shop. Got back to the car.

He said “wait, where did you put the Argos stuff?”.

Me: “I didn’t go to Argos. You did?”

Him: “oh. I thought you went and picked the stuff up?”

Me: “babe I saw you walk out of Argos with a bag. I didn’t even get through the door of Argos before I saw you.

Him: “oh, no. That was some stuff I’d bought from elsewhere. Your text said you were picking it up so I didn’t get it”.

Me: “but you said you didn’t see that message! And I saw you walk out of Argos! And you saw me walk IN, as if I hadn’t been there yet.”

We had a good laugh about it and no one is annoyed with anyone, but I maintain it was a fair assumption that the person walking out of Argos, holding the bag, might be assumed to HAVE PICKED UP THE ARGOS STUFF”.

Shop names changed to protect the innocent. Does Argos even exist any more??

His version makes no sense at all!

His reply about not seeing your reply so proceeding to Argos wouldn’t make sense if he didn’t get the things you were discussing.

Alicorn1707 · 25/04/2026 12:44

@Whodidittho your light-hearted proviso seems to be fast vanishing.

This was entirely your mistake, you should have asked your husband if he'd picked up "his item" 😉you are de facto, actually his mother, don't you know 😆

He was most likely just flipping through the catalogue awaiting your guidance as to which store you'd visit next, possibly Primark? 😁

TakeALookAtTheseSwatches · 25/04/2026 12:40

I absolutely love that you made this post 😂

You are obviously in the right, who comes out of a shop, meets the other person coming in and doesn't think to mention that they haven't actually picked up the things needed from said shop 🤦

Epicuriouss · 25/04/2026 12:30

Why did you even type this out 🤷‍♀️🤣

BennyHenny · 25/04/2026 12:25

You sound like you’d be fun at parties 🤣

Oh I dunno, walking into a room chanting I'm a dick, I'm a dick, I'm a really big dick could be entertaining. In my mind they're doing the Prisiadki while they chant it

DuckyDolittle · 25/04/2026 12:28

Hmm I'm not sure whose fault this is. I think we need a full enquiry. Have you kept the text messages to use as evidence?

YABU for calling your husband babe, and making this post incredibly hard to follow by renaming the actual shops, and for not taking your own reusable bags and wasting money on crappy shop plastic bags.

The end result is I couldn’t give a shit about your shopping.

You sound like you’d be fun at parties 🤣

Did you mean to be so rude?

SunnyRedSnail · 25/04/2026 12:02

Well I'm a normal person so I would have said "oh good, you picked up the Argos thing, not sure if you saw my message", and he would have replied "no, I haven't picked it up", and then you could have both picked it up together and lived happily ever after. The end.

redskyAtNigh · 25/04/2026 11:59

Well you should have maybe just arranged to meet at Argos in the first place if it was the mid point.

But essentially you have just proven the well known point that it's impossible for 2 people to try to split the shopping and end up with all the things that they need. Just be glad you didn't have to factor in shop 4 (let's call it Homebase :) )

OneSeriesTooMany · 25/04/2026 11:16

Why was he walking out of “Argos” then? What had he being doing in Argos if not buying the Argos stuff

He’d gone in looking for op as she said she was going to there

OneTimeThingToday · 25/04/2026 11:55

I would have presumed the same as you. He was tbe one who had been to the shop, and knew you hadnt.

Goditsmemargaret · 25/04/2026 11:49

How did he assume you got the Argos stuff given he met you outside before you entered?

So you just decided to post to show everyone you're a dick?
Thoughtful of you.

MagpiePi · 25/04/2026 11:46

Why would he go into Argos if not to pick up the thing he wanted? Weird man…

I would also say, why not just ring and talk directly to each other instead of hoping that messages are read in time?

Noodles1234 · 25/04/2026 11:42

You both assumed so equally at fault, you both should have checked when you saw each other.

usedtobeaylis · 25/04/2026 11:41

It's absolutely reasonable for you to assume that the person walking out of Argos with the Argos bag has collected the Argos item from Argos. Anything else is a hindsight, retelling perspective.

Hattermadness · 25/04/2026 11:36

This is why my husband does ALL of our shopping 😂

wiwaprwfimh70 · 25/04/2026 11:35

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 25/04/2026 11:26

I do feel an integral flaw to your retelling of this story, could lay in choosing Argos as your store example.

Argos is not a mooching store. It’s a computer screen, get in, pick item, get out. This strongly favours your stance that he would only be in Argos to collect something, as it’s a store that serves no other purpose.

We need to know the real identity of the store to give a wider context.

(yes, I am taking this very seriously on a likewise dull Saturday morning.)

I'm with @ItsOnlyHobnobson this one. We need the name of the store!

I am so confused by the whole post but you sound nice and reasonable OP so I’ll say DH was at fault 😂

LittlePetitePsychopath · 25/04/2026 11:24

Was it an Argos bag? Or just a bag?

But he was walking out of Argos, so you'd have thought he'd have got it... or mentioned that he hadn't!

AmusedMember · 25/04/2026 11:24

So no one cares, why post?! 😂

Coconutter24 · 25/04/2026 11:23

So he walked into Argos didn’t pick anything up and walked back out? Why?
