BBC redudency

Hi my partner won't talk to me about it as he knows I'm stressed.

I've just had a baby and hubby works for bbc.

I think I knew someone who was told they could be losing their job last June and their job was terminated at the end of the financial year.

Is that how the BBC does it, give lots of notice? Or how much notice do they have to give?

At 55 won't be employed again?

Give over.
At 55 you can take your pension too and still get another job.
I know a 6o and 62 year get jobs in the last month.

Everyone's situation is different.
I have been through similar cycles and there was always more volunteers than numbers needed.
Some have other plans and resources and simply can take the option regardless of job economy.

Edited

How many volunteered this time? Big payouts. Hubby is 55. Won't be employed again

But some will want redundancy.
You will be surprised.

That's not natural waste is it?
Of course the redudency is good. Friend got £90k!

They need to get rid of 1 in 10. No one is leaving in this economy

Now they have announced it there will be natural wastage I.e people just leaving before redundancy so they will need less to be made redundant

What part of the contract? He's been there 18 years

Don't forget then he'll also get a decent financial package if it does come to that. It's 1 week's pay for each year of service for those aged 40 and under, and 1.5 week's pay for each year of service for those aged 41+. He may also be offered an enhanced package and get more.

She knew for a while, but I couldn't say how long. I'd be surprised if it was quicker than three months. Legally speaking depending on the number of people being made redundant they need to consult for between 30-45 days before giving anyone notice. I think if your husband says you don't need to worry you should trust him. You've got enough on your plate with a new baby and worrying about it won't change the situation anyway.

He won't talk to me about it

You need to know what his contract is because that’s the starting point.

A relative of mine that works for them has been told they will know if their job is at risk in September

He says I don't need to worry

My friend was made redundant from the BBC last year and she was given lots of notice. They followed the legal consultation process, and she was given lots of support with updating her CV and job searching before she left.
