What phrase do you hear ALL THE TIME during your working day, that makes you want to scream?!

So I’m a childminder.
Whilst out with the kids (presently four 2 year olds) I hear “you’ve got your hands full” multiple times a day!
Over and over again, and it’s SO hard to react with a smile sometimes! (But I do obviously)
When I worked in shops it was “printed it this morning!” if someone handed me a fresh note.
So what do you hear constantly whilst working, that makes you scream inside?!

“But you MUST have appointments, it’s an emergency” said in a childish bitter tone, by one of the dozens of phone calls I get every day from people who want chiropody services but refuse to listen to my voicemail which tells them that I am fully booked and cannot take on anyone else even if it is an emergency.
It drives me crazy because I always always feel guilty about saying no. But there are only so many hours in a day!!

harrietthespi · 25/04/2026 11:08

’can you just..’ , and ‘are you busy’ when I’m CLEARLY fucking busy .

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 25/04/2026 11:00

A few of my colleagues have started prefacing their request with hvad hedder det... (What's it called) And it's driving me nuts.

Not technically incorrect but constant twatter about 'cascading' and 'embedding'.

Ridiculous AI written emails which range from robotic to verbose Victorian novel and bear no relation to the way the individual speaks.

My boss repeatedly says 'without further adieu'. It's ADO!

I had a manager who always said "segoo" for segue. They'd clearly seen it written down (probably on someone else's PowerPoint slides) and not connected it to the pronunciation. And they said it a lot.

I don’t have capacity

or

they don’t have capacity

I use this all the time when the same person constantly tries to offload extra work on to me. It is an easy way to close the request down. This person has tasks they don't like and always try to delegate them to me!

I work in safeguarding. This means that I am regularly told that things which are nothing whatsoever to do with safeguarding are "a safeguarding issue" by people who do not understand what the word safeguarding actually means. Seriously considering getting little cards printed with the definition to save myself time.

I worked for the NHS in a very busy out patient department doing routine tests on patients( amongst other things)
If I had a pound for every time I heard “ is this what you do all day nurse, do you not get bored” I’d be very rich.
I wanted to scream back at them “I’m not a nurse,I do lots of of different things that you don’t see as an out patient and what do you / did you do that is / was so bloomin’ interesting”

Ha! I get this one too. All they see is that tiny interaction I have with them, and not the rest of my widely varied and pretty interesting job. Once I asked the person saying this what they’d done for a job and they replied with “something even more boring than this!” 😂

"Speak to" + something in meetings. As in "Jerome, can you speak to this?"
No, I bloody can't. But I can speak about it 😀

I’m allergic to penicillin.
Me: What happens when you take it?
Nothing, my mum just told me never to take it.

The context here is that it isn’t these people’s fault - too many people were wrongly told they were allergic to penicillin in the 1970’s, but it is annoying to hear it, knowing that for most of them it would be a safe and effective treatment.

I’m a GP receptionist..

General phone call exchange goes something like this, though obviously more in depth with names, dates of birth, very briefly idea of there issue so we can direct to correct clinician or even urgent care / A&E or 999 if more appropriate.

patient - hello, I’d like an appointment please
me - of course, do you need to be seen today or a routine appointment?
patient - routine
me - ok. Our next routine with dr is 10 days time
patient - haven’t you got anything sooner

im my head I’m thinking “yes I offered you today” 🙄🙄🙄

You didn't offer today for a routine appointment though!

mamajong · 25/04/2026 08:34

My role involves a lot of events and at every one, every new person you meet asks the same 3 questions 'what do you do?' 'Have you travelled far to get here' and 'have you been together this event before' so you just answer those 3 questions over and over again...

I think this is totally reasonable. The patient was honest and said they didn't need to be seen today, but thinks 10 days is too long to wait.

Sometimes just my name! 🤣 I work with kids and after hearing my name 200 times a day I’m ready to scream! The other day I said I’m changing my name and moving to Brazil! And the response was Mrs H can we come too!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Not at work anymore but I used to hate and still do :

Deliver at pace.

Or people saying. ‘ It made me emotional’ as opposed to happy, angry, annoyed etc.

Oh God, anything “at pace” drives me mad - and currently everything needs to be at pace. And transformational change - surely the very nature of change is that something transforms.

RunningJo · 25/04/2026 07:51

‘Oh that was too much fun ‘

Why can’t you just say you a great time, and why was it too much?
