What phrase do you hear ALL THE TIME during your working day, that makes you want to scream?!

So I’m a childminder.
Whilst out with the kids (presently four 2 year olds) I hear “you’ve got your hands full” multiple times a day!
Over and over again, and it’s SO hard to react with a smile sometimes! (But I do obviously)
When I worked in shops it was “printed it this morning!” if someone handed me a fresh note.
So what do you hear constantly whilst working, that makes you scream inside?!

Pivot. I haven't pivotted since I played netball regularly.

Absolutely agree ...the only people allowed to use "reach out" in a working capacity are the Four Tops!

And Depeche Mode (Personal Jesus)!

essexmam89 · 24/04/2026 16:11

Nobody thinks they’re the first to make this joke. Part of living in society is having this kind of background small talk that becomes formulaic between strangers. They make the joke because they’ve heard the joke and it’s ’what you say’ to the cashier when this happens. It’s part of a social contract that says ‘we are the same, we acknowledge this issue, it is ok, we know how it goes’.

Jason Manford does a whole bit of his routine about ‘Dad Jokes‘ like this. I like them. It’s just safe small talk.

Ha
No

But I do find people who refuse to accept that language changes annoying

It's pretty much what this whole thread is about 🤣🤣

In my workplace, we are also regularly asked to "pivot" to a new task

I was JUST about to say how annoying and wanky the word 'pivot' is.

And then I saw your post.

Do you have any hearing difficulties?

What?

🤨

me too 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

LlynTegid · 24/04/2026 15:52

'Let's wait a couple of minutes for others to join'. No, record the meeting and start now.

I host a call, it starts on time, if someone is missing or late I might do the agenda in a different order. Guess what, almost everyone is there on time as they know I start on time.

MissDixieVoom · 24/04/2026 15:50

I sat next to a man who used the phrase "growth mindset" over 40 times in a one hour telephone meeting.

I'd possibly understand that if he worked in education. He was not, though. He was a communications/ social media manager in an engineering company.

Legomania · 24/04/2026 14:13

She sounds annoying (what with it being a common phrase)

Ahh I see you're a user of said annoying phrase 😁

I work outdoors and get all day every day comments about the weather. Yes I can feel and see the weather thanks

“Thanks for reaching out”

I didn’t. Reaching for you would imply I want to instigate physical contact. Take it from this menopausal guardian of strict boundaries I do not.

nor will I be “circling back” to continue this pointless exchange.

My favourite post of the day.

You're a teacher, right?

“I’ve just come to collect a prescription…”

In a pharmacy, this is a bit like telling an Asda worker you’ve come to buy groceries.

No it's not the same. Lots of people ask for over the counter medication without prescription. What are they supposed to say then? Maybe you need another job.

cantthinkofagoodusername1 · 24/04/2026 15:41

Anyone asking me to 'kindly' do something. 'Would you kindly review this document ASAP'. No.

Walker1178 · 24/04/2026 15:39

I work as a creative so everything is ‘agile’

dentalflosser · 24/04/2026 15:39

“reach out” drives me mad, can’t we just “contact”?
“Moving forward” as “in future” seemingly isn’t enough.
“It’s just a small ask” which will take me half a day.

Stigsmother · 24/04/2026 15:36

Fully f*ing funded, or in English, earning your wage 😡🙄

Crosorbled · 24/04/2026 15:35

I work in the NHS . It’s not quite daily - can you walk up a flight of stairs ( mobility & cardio respiratory check ). I live in a bungalow !

GinaandGin · 24/04/2026 15:35

"To meet the needs of the service "
A top get out clause /cavet when you ask for family friendly working
Which they recruit staff on...
And are then told.. it won't work.
Because. "Needs of service"

Legomania · 24/04/2026 15:32

AnotherName2025 · 24/04/2026 14:48

No she sounds brilliant.

educating people whilst getting them drinks/food! Good on her!!

'Educating'

Who doesn't love a bit of condescension with their morning coffee?

Theyreeatingthedogs · 24/04/2026 15:32

Hundred percent. Usually the word they should use is "yes".
