Was I right to complain and would you be worried?

Just had a delivery driver from Dominos unable
to find our house (village but not the easiest to find, though Amazon manages fine!). They called my phone and were clearly stressed,
I could see them going back and forth every few minutes while on the phone but because of how far we are from the main road I couldn’t go out (dc at home). He started raising his voice saying ‘im on ‘green’ lane!’ Almost angry over and over.

I felt really intimidated. He didn’t say anything to make me feel like that it was just the tone and then general way the conversation was. He must have then realised where it was and hung up, then absolutely raced down our drive, I thought he was going to hit the house. When I opened the door he pushed the pizza to me and didn’t say a word then drove off again reversing at high speed. I was on the phone to the dominos place literally at the time he arrived as they had called me to say their driver couldn’t find where we are. She could tell I was shocked when he turned up and was probing to ask if I was ok, I said I was quite shocked and wasn’t really sure what had just happened and that their are kids often playing and his speed in particular really scared me.

She said she would feed it back to him (no pun intended). I then said I didn’t want her to do that and didn’t want a fuss made as I was worried he would come back and do something awful to us. I have anxiety. Anyway she said she had a duty to feed it back to him and she apologised, she was very nice.

I feel really shaken up. For context I am often alone at home with small small children as DH often late at work and we are down a dark ish lane by the village. I am probably overthinking but I feel terrible for even admitting what he had done as he was obviously having a shit night and on next to no pay and no I am also worried I’ve unintentionally riled him up. I ordered food in as I was stressed with work and now this has just made me more stressed!

@GinaandGin please read my posts. I’ve explained where our house is and it’s not a case of going to the end of the immediate road

You said smaller road to the main road where he was…

If you were close enough to see the car, you could have said drive really slowly down the road and ‘stop’ when i tell you , then turn left/ right, it’s definitely not rocket science .

This
I didn't get why she didn't do that either
She is only going to the end of the drive

If anything you should be particularly nice to customers in hospitality?

why? Why do hospitality staff need to be nicer?

@PoppinjayPolly homestly can’t believe that’s a genuine question 😅

But close enough that you stood and watched him drive past several times and didn't think to grab the kids and nip down to show him. How far away is this road from your house? You could probably safely left the children and met him at the drive. Surely you go to the loo, put the bins out etc so dont have eyes on your children at all times? Going to the end of your drive is no different.

Totally agree with this , if children were in bed surely
you could have took baby monitor with you , they usually have a decent range & you’d have been out of the house for 1 minute, the likelihood of them waking up at that precise moment surely is minimal , prob exactly the same time it would take you to have a wee !
I think you’re being incredibly over dramatic here & I seriously feel for the driver .

Also £25 for a pizza is fairly standard & I’m guessing he’s not on commission

@rainbowunicorn my kids were asleep! I’m not waking them up to go out to find a delivery driver and no as I keep saying it’s beyond taking the bins out

Kindly, I also think this is your anxiety talking op. He was stressed out trying to find your house with cooling pizzas on board and it’s highly, highly unlikely that he would personally target you over this.

A complaint would result in a conversation with him, nothing more. He isn’t going to lose his job over this and come back on the rampage.

rainbowunicorn · 22/04/2026 18:18

Wooorid · 22/04/2026 17:56

@PoppinjayPolly accountant, but not sure why that’s relevant?! If anything you should be particularly nice to customers in hospitality?

We are set back off the main road via a smaller road. Couldn’t leave the house and walk to the main road as that would be leaving children unattended. When he realised where he was supposed to be going he drove very fast down the smaller road and screeched onto our drive.

I used to have a part-time delivery job and hated it when there was a delivery to something like 'Rose Cottage, so-and-so road'. And that road could have been very long. Trying to find a house like that could be a nightmare.

I’ve done delivery driving and it’s bloody awful when you can’t find a house , especially in the dark .
There was 1 particular house that ordered
regularly , always tipped generously so people soils lobe to get that 1 , I hated it and would rather forgo the tip as the winding narrow country lanes made me so anxious ,
I actually cried on several occasions driving there in the dark and the rain . I didn’t last long with this job truth told 🤦🏼‍♀️

@ToKittyornottoKitty sorry I don’t understand your post. I didn’t say he was a bad person?

You said in your post you were worried he would come and do something awful to you. So yeah, you kind of did imply that you think hes a bad person.

A pizza man couldn't find your house. Idk whether you tried to direct him or not but he eventually found you. He went really fast because he was embarrassed and didn't want to get in trouble.

I don't really understand why you'd be thinking he'd come back and axe murder you. He's just trying to deliver pizza as quickly as possible to keep a roof over his head.

@BillieWiper because his manager took it as a complaint and was going to speak to him. Obviously wasn’t concerned he would be that irritated over just not finding it

Can’t believe you’re still banging on about this. He had a bad day, you were upset, that’s it. Move on!

Next time use What3Words in the driver instructions and all will be well.

I’ve had time to reflect on the posts and also my reaction.

I’m genuinely surprised that people have such low expectations.

I’d lose my job if I interacted with a client like that. Being stressed at work surely isn’t an excuse for that behaviour? it’s not like we were getting something for free, we’d spent over 25 quid!

What’s your job @Wooorid ?
still don’t get how you live so far from the road you’d need to abandon your dc to go down this lane, but so close the driver could crash into your house?

He might have had other deliveries and he was stressed they’d all go cold and he’d be told off. I have no idea how dominos works but if it’s anything like Evri and similar couriers, they’re also timed and get reprimanded if deliveries take too long.

You need what3words.
