What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?

I’m in a reflective mood, and it’s got me thinking about something I did a few years ago which is probably the thing I’m most deeply ashamed of.

There was a coworker who really rubbed me up the wrong way. I was very unhappy at the time, and going through an awful time personally. She would make snide comments about me, do things with my family members (who were colleagues too) which really got my back up, I felt like she judged me harshly and was pretty rude. Along with another colleague they made three or four very nasty comments which still stick with me.

Instead of raising a grievance, which I should have done, I took to posting about her on another website (along the lines of Mumsnet), not realising she used it too. She saw the posts and reported me, and I ended up facing a meeting with HR and a senior partner of the firm I was working in. It damaged my reputation within the firm forever and I ended up leaving after not being offered a promotion. I still feel ashamed of it now, nearly half a decade on, and feel like it’s tarred me forever.

Whats the worst thing you’ve ever done?

I was dancing with a man in a nightclub, near the end of the night where it's a slow dance, (& we were both drunk) I had my head rested on his shoulder, we were almost the same height with my heels on.

This really good looking, taller man started making eyes at me behind man 1s back, we had a few quiet giggles & he was touching my hand (that was draped round man 1s neck)

Man 2 then leans in for a snog, I go on my tiptoes & start snogging him over man 1s shoulder!!

Man 1 soon realised, kind of just removed his arms from me & walked off & man 2 wrapped me up in his arms instead & we carried on snogging.

I justified this to myself for years because man 1 still contacted me after & we had a date, I apologized & he was fine with it.

Now though, I'm MORTIFIED by my behaviour, & can't believe that I did it!!!

lol

As a young child probably about 9/10 years old, a friend I used to play with led me to the car park of a sports centre, she decided to try door handles of cars and when one opened she just kind of threw all the persons stuff around and there was a book on the back seat and she ripped all the pages up.. absolutely no idea why and I felt awful and so guilty about it as even though I did not actually do it I was there with her and did not stop her. I would have equally been in trouble if caught. Always knew there was a reason my mum didn’t like me playing with her.
Into teens and early twenties, was all about drinking and clubbing and looking for sex, totally sex obsessed and seemed the only thing that mattered! Had a fake ID at 16 and would pull people loads older telling them I was 18/19! It’s tapered off now but definitely drove me to some bad decisions and not treating people too well.. was young and those were just fleeting relationships in my eyes. Do not regret it though, had some great times and it’s part of growing up and learning.
I guess having no phones or SM helped as nothing recorded!
feel bad for youngsters these days. Every encounter will be recorded or posted about? Maybe that’s why this young generation are more reserved than we were!

I'm really embarrassed about this because I don't know why I did it, it's very unlike me but I was just overcome with rage... One day I was walking past Reform's constituency office and I spat in the doorway. 😳 I'm a respectable middle aged woman who has never spat in public before or since!

Reminds me of my own actions…. a few years ago driving with some friends there was a mahoosive UKIP poster on a board in a field just by the road. We stopped, removed the poster and took it away to destroy!
Friends were all pissed as farts but I was the desi, so was stone cold sober and had no excuse (other than, ya know, UKIP)

Not the worst thing I’ve done though.

Had a boyfriend when I was in my teens and he treated me very badly and then went back to his ex.
He had left some clothes at my house including his favourite waistcoat (it was the 1990s) so one night I set fire to them in the garden, threw water on them so they were toasted but could still be discernible as his clothes and then I marched up to his house under cloak of darkness and hurled them on his front garden.
This isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever done but I dare not write the other in case it is outing!

When me and DH first got together many years ago, we were really short of money (still are tbh 🙈 but would never do it now as we have obviously grown up and are responsible parents with decent morals!) and used to steal the more expensive items such as salmon from the supermarket during our weekly grocery shop by doubling up bags for life and slipping the items down the sides inbetween the bags.We did it for about a year when we first got together then i moved into a more professional job and was paranoid about getting caught and losing my job, plus just felt more wrong as i was supposed to be in a responsible role, so told DH we needed to stop.

Also, killing my guinea pig when I was eight (accidentally!) by playing with it too roughly (it landed on the ground and died instantly.....still feel guilty 30 yrs on!)

Cleocaterpillar · 22/04/2026 22:48

I've lied, cheated, stolen, and was an absolute prick right up to my 30s. I had a pretty horrific childhood so most of it was down to that. I'm nice now though and am very understanding of other people's faults.

I have been with my Husband, since I was 19, now 45 and I have a really good marriage.

In my 20s when I was pregnant, and a bit psychotic! We had a great big row and I dipped his toothbrush in the toilet! He is a right germophobe and even though I didn’t tell him at the time I was hugely smug with myself!

I did confess a few years ago, and he was absolutely horrified!! I don’t regret it though, I think it’s absolutely hilarious. My younger adult children looked at me like I was absolutely insane at the confession time.

Omg that's awful....I couldn't forgive someone for that 🤮

Not sure if having a poo outside as I was desperate is better or worse than an affair.

I did this once too years ago.....in the corner of a pub garden 😅 On the way home from work was so desperate I honestly didn't have a choice as there were no loos anywhere in the vicinity.

Everybody will know she only got the job because of her mum.

I want to know why the daughter bothered with a degree if all she was going to do is sit around and wait for her mum to hand her an admin job. Seems like a massive waste of money and effort if that’s all she wants to do. Although the setup to it is suspicious and I’m sure this is just the admin assistant troll at work hoping we’ll pile on again about what a pointless job it is.

Taking a university place from someone who could actually appreciate it is really worthy of being on this thread.

I’ve done a lot of stuff I’m not proud of, but I have never done that.

oosha · 22/04/2026 22:33

Fuck I don’t think I would even know where to start with that question 😂😂😂😂😂

Living in a homeless hostel i was so desperate for food and no money i did use to take things from shops. if its any better i used to go to International the supermarket that was and take reduced sandwiches and yoghurts
In the same vein i have done sex acts for money would not now but at the time I needed money to live on saying sex acts it was only a hand job
i had to leave and my children go to a foster mum who was also a friend i broke down totally and was coerced by a dangerous nasty man who put me through two years of hell i only said temporary for the kids similar to staying with a grandparent for a short while but because i was so all over the place this bastard took advantage and I had no contact with anyone for over 2 years. in that time he knocked my teeth out, he knew i had a bad phobia about certain foods so used to delight forcing food down my throat until i would vomit then he would make me re eat it, shove me face first into a plate of hot stew, so many other things. i cry everyday about losing my kids and the lovely home we had.
leaving the darling little cottage i had i was so rude to my sister who tried to help and wish now i had listened to her
i regret my life from being sexually abused at 5 years to the life i have now

Heartbreaking to read. That poor little girl - no wonder so many things went wrong. None of this is your fault.

I behaved very badly to someone who loved me very much. He was heartbroken by what I did and I was dismissive of his feelings. If it comes into my head now I have to immediately think of something else, because it tortures me how heartless I was.

@TheBewleySisters i could have written this word for word. ❤️

I slept with two men on one day. On two separate occasions, four guys in total, as it were.

This sounds like it was fun, rather than a worse thing you have done? Guessing uou weren't hurting anybody.

That was my thought process as well, every week for 4 months I went into the police station, purchased every newspaper available and joined every local FB page looking for information but nothing.

Forgot to add, the area it happened is a major tourist attraction so lots of CCTV.

Edited

I reckon it was one of those haunted stretches of road and the police were used to reports of drivers encountering an old lady, and not in a good way.

Rhaenys · 22/04/2026 22:00

Mine is disgusting, but I was on my period and I’d just had a poo. As I reached round to get the toilet paper (that we kept on the windowsill), I accidentally knocked an expensive ring of my mum’s into the toilet. I didn’t want to fish around for it in a toilet full of blood and poo, so I just flushed. I was about 17. I don’t think it was insured either. Oops.

Guys you all are so funny
this is great

PeachShaker · 22/04/2026 21:51

Depends if you left it there/dug a hole first

jammibats · 22/04/2026 21:50

The worst thing was a a teenager I got off with my boyfriends older brothers friend who I might add I didn't even really like that much, and I gave him a handy!. I proceeded to break up with and get back together with said boyfriend on and off through my teens and early twenties and I never divulged my indiscretion. Anyway to cut a long story short I am now in my 40's married to that boyfriend, very happily I might add but unfortunately his older brother is still friends with that same guy I got off with. I luckily don't have to see him too often but I do cringe every time I end up at the same wedding or party and he is there. That ladies, is my punishment.

Dancingintherain09 · 22/04/2026 21:48

My husband a few years ago was really unsympathetic when I had severe D&V to the point I could barely stand and nearly passing out, slept on bathroom floor etc he actually said I was being dramatic. While I was in the bathroom I scrubbed my teeth with his tooth brush and ultimately my GERMS, two days later he's bed ridden and sick as hell and very humbled. He's never been unsympathetic again...I've also never told him this.

Gonners · 22/04/2026 21:43

The worst thing I have ever done? Well, I suppose it depends who you ask!

I found my DH had been using a sex toy and hiding it. It was like a mechanical vagina type thing. I rubbed a hot chilli all around the inside.

I ghosted a friend. I can’t really explain why. It was an absolutely awful thing to do; she needed me.

Maybe it's not too late to unghost your friend, if she's a friend she will understand.

My friend ghosted me a number of months ago after decades of friendship. I was going through absolute hell on earth.
My friend lost her mum and I was there in the midst of my crisis, I was checking in doing what I could do to help, I didn't want help in return I just wanted to be there for my friend.

Sadly after all the effort I was putting in ...around 2 years worth of being the first to reach out, I stopped messaging and I've not heard from her since :-( I tried I really did and it kept hurting me, the no responses.
I would 100 percent welcome her back into my life though she was going through such a tough time. I really miss her.
