What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?

I’m in a reflective mood, and it’s got me thinking about something I did a few years ago which is probably the thing I’m most deeply ashamed of.

There was a coworker who really rubbed me up the wrong way. I was very unhappy at the time, and going through an awful time personally. She would make snide comments about me, do things with my family members (who were colleagues too) which really got my back up, I felt like she judged me harshly and was pretty rude. Along with another colleague they made three or four very nasty comments which still stick with me.

Instead of raising a grievance, which I should have done, I took to posting about her on another website (along the lines of Mumsnet), not realising she used it too. She saw the posts and reported me, and I ended up facing a meeting with HR and a senior partner of the firm I was working in. It damaged my reputation within the firm forever and I ended up leaving after not being offered a promotion. I still feel ashamed of it now, nearly half a decade on, and feel like it’s tarred me forever.

Whats the worst thing you’ve ever done?

I have done a lot of things I regret but the first thing that came to mind was kicking a taxi drivers car door in.

My best friend had gained weight after her mum died and she became severely depressed. She was really self conscious about it and hated leaving the house, it took a lot of persuasion to get her to come out that night.
She had bought a new dress and had put a lot of effort into getting ready and said she was feeling good about herself for once.

When we went to get a taxi home a driver sat in his car on the rank shouted “hey fatty, you aren’t getting in my car and wrecking my suspension. I suggest you walk the and the exercise might do you good”.

My friend looked absolutely devastated and I just saw red. I kicked his door a few times and told him that being a nasty twat deserved more than his suspension being destroyed.

Two police officers came over and asked what was going on, I said the driver had insulted my friend and told him to repeat what he’d said.
He refused and said it was just a misunderstanding and he didn’t want to take things further. I assume that’s because he was ashamed that my friend was crying and he saw how much he’d hurt her.

Another time I put a bottle of champagne in the bottom of a child’s pram with the security tag on, it belonged to a girl who badly bullied me at school and I did it when her back was turned and hid it under some other things.
She made my life hell and I enjoyed it immensely when she was stopped by the security guard and taken into an office, I was hoping that I humiliated her like she used to do to me.

It’s possible they checked the cctv and saw she didn’t do it herself but I like to think that they didn’t go to the effort and she was punished.

Oh and I also stole a large amount of money from someone whose house I lodged in after he tried to grope me and get in bed with me. He refused to let me put a lock on my door and the lock on the bathroom door kept “breaking”.
I’m sure he was going through my things in my room as well.
I needed to move out quickly as I was really scared of what he’d do next so I stole money from his room, left the next day and stayed in a hotel then paid the deposit and a few months rent upfront on a much nicer flat.

I have a strong sense of justice that I’ve had to rein in over time to keep me out of trouble!

I have told this tale on here before.

Many, many years ago, when I was still married to the father of my children (now known as The Sperm Donor), I discovered that he was having an affair. Incontrovertible evidence (‘she’ wrote to me with photographs! This was in the days before Internet).

He was working away at the time, only coming home at the weekends…then every other weekend…you get the picture. Of course he was seeing her…not ‘far too busy with the project’!

So, I plotted both my revenge and his removal.

Whilst he was away, I took all of his underpants (no shorts in those days…these were proper old fashioned Y-fronts 😂) and I rubbed the insides with scotch bonnet peppers. Lots and lots of
fiery peppers! When he next came home, he swapped out his dirty pants for clean (hot 🫑 pants 😂), left me with his dirty pants to wash ☹️ and disappeared again for a couple of weeks. Of course, I did the same again - and after a month or so, he became SO concerned about ‘the rash’ he was getting, that he confided in me and asked me to have a look 😬

It was really bad! 🤭 (I shouldn’t laugh…but I am!) I suggested he might need an STD test…and confronted him with my knowledge that he was having an affair. Of course he denied it…until I showed him the letter. I continued with my ‘STD’ accusations and insisted he went for a test at the GUM clinic…which he did. I also presented him with the divorce petition. Bastard!

I never did come clean about the ‘hot 🫑 pants’ 🤭

Not done anything bad to anyone but when I read the title, married my now ex husband came to mind.

Oh yes marrying my now ex-husband was by FAR the worst thing I've ever done - by a country mile, whatever that is when it's at home.

TurnipsAndParsnips · 20/04/2026 19:12

To clarify, the threesome was with work colleagues.

Had a threesome over a drunken and drugs fuelled weekend. Monday morning in the office was a bit awkward. Told lovely gay colleague because he asked me why I looked so miserable. He said “ Darling, how could you? They’re both so ugly!” Which made me laugh but didn’t make me feel any better.

Shagged a good friend’s fiancé. It was some of the best sex I’ve ever had. They got married a year later and thankfully moved to Australia. She was suspicious but never found out as we were reasonably discreet.

Jumbledpie · 20/04/2026 19:12

I have name-changed for these because I know they're pretty bad...

I once shat in a plastic bag in the passenger seat of my car and dumped it in a stranger's wheels bin. I had been away camping and eaten some questionable meat, all seemed fine until I was on the drive home. I wasn't going to make it but was driving through a residential estate at night. I found the most private place I could and jumped into the passenger seat with the plastic bag but I was pooing water. I still had another hour to go home and was worried about this watery shit ending up on my seat so put it in the nearest bin I could find which happened to be some random person's wheely bin.

The other one is that I once woke up to my old flatmate on top of me in bed, trying to pull my pyjama bottoms off while I slept. The next day I cleaned the toilet with his toothbrush before moving my stuff out.

I had a neighbour who slammed his front door. I jumped out of my skin every time. They are heavy fire doors and really loud. Sometimes the vibration ran across my floor.

I made numerous complaints to the management company but he didn't give a shit. Lockdown was awful, he was home all day and never went back to work. One day after 22 (yes 22 not a typo) slams I lost my shit.

I bought a huge pair of trainers in a charity shop so they looked worn. I put them outside my door. Suddenly he could close the door properly. Funny that....

It's a shame it took a threat of violence from the man who fits into those huge trainers to behave decently.

I don’t think you did anything wrong there!

FessionHole · 20/04/2026 19:10

Mines pretty bad. Had an affair for over a year (very long time ago and fully forgiven/moved on from).
The other bad thing though was after the relationship with AP ended, I was struggling with going NC although knew I had to. I knew APs laptop password and turns out that was the same for email, and later a dating site. I spent 6 months knowing AP was having dates, and eventually what was obviously a very toxic relationship thereafter. Thankfully the passwords were changed eventually and I stopped being able to access, which I am thankful for as I was then able to move on. Was a huge invasion of privacy and I have never told a single soul. AP obviously never knew and we have not had any contact since, but I regret it hugely.

CPNSBH · 20/04/2026 19:10

When I was in my twenties I slept with a married man around 3 times a week for around 12 months. I don’t know why, I didn’t even like him that much.

In a very secluded wood, up a hill behind a gate, no one could see me, I was an hour away from the car, I would never have made it back, I was on my own, I covered it in grass.

Very embarrassed, I do have IBS ( I don't make a habit of it )

I once had a poo in the garden of a rental house and blamed it on next door’s Alsatian.

I had rented the whole 2 bed house but the landlord stuck a weird girl with narcolepsy in the spare bedroom, and she had a habit of falling asleep in the only bathroom.

Felt bad for the Alsatian, who was a lovely dog but lived a lonely life stuck in the garden. I was sooo tempted to dog nap it when I left.

That's seriously the worse thing you've ever done? Left a big pair of trainers outside your door? You must be a saint!

I've never threatened anyone with violence.

It felt bad but I had to do something. I'd put the feelers out to find someone who would pretend to be the owners of the trainers. Someone who could have a quiet word......

I didn't need to but I would have.

Had a row with my sister on her wedding day about how I felt she'd excluded me from the day. We were very close and I was a mess about her getting married - felt like I was losing her, was upset about our family changing shape. I totally lost my mind, no excuses. We patched it up and are close again many years on but I still can't believe I behaved so abominably and it did a lot of damage to our relationship for years (and I don't think her husband will ever think much of me).

Oh I empathise with you.

I was a sullen cow when my sister was getting married. tbf (to me) I was 18 and still lived at home. Every part of our household was focussed on 'the wedding'. There was an engagement party (and lots of gifts), then there was all the choosing the wedding dress faff - she was lovely, looked great in them all, why all the trailing around shop after shop? I was a bridesmaid and all I wanted was to be chic and sophisticated (preferably in deep dark red and very sexy) and not wrapped up in peach lace (it was the 1980s). dsis vetoed every dress I liked and I ended up with a flouncy pale peach flowery bedspread. Homemade by my Mum. I huffed and puffed at every fitting.

Dsis lived away from home so whenever she came back all the conversation was about 'the wedding'. Other visitors came and said "oh you must be so excited about 'the wedding'". I was not. I was bored of it. And I was probably quite jealous of all the excitement and the attention on my sister.

All the photos show me with the moodiest face ever. Sorry dsis.

Reminds me of former PM Theresa May who said the worst thing she ever did was running through a field of corn, flattening it!

That isn't bad! If you'd done it in the middle of the playground at school finishing time then yes, that would be horrendous, but wild pooing in the woods on a run is an act of desperation!

What did you do?

Please don’t tell us!

oohyoudevilyou · 20/04/2026 19:04

I cheated on someone who loved me very much, lied extravagantly to cover myself, then dumped him in a cruel and ill-timed manner. I hope my treatment of him didn't ruin his chances of happiness in future relationships, but he was very hurt so I suspect he carried some scars

That’s ok. If you need to go you need to go. It’s not like you did it on someone’s front door step!

SweetcornFritter · 20/04/2026 19:00

Slapped a fellow (male) student across the face at a college disco for no apparent reason other than I was drunk.

Stolen a bottle of wine from an off licence that had already had its window smashed in.

Not visiting my friend in hospital as regularly as I should have done when he was dying with Aids (though in my defence I was heavily pregnant at the time and getting to the hospital on the tube was a nightmare).

I was in an abusive relationship. He was a really nasty bastard. Towards the end he was cheating. It was obvious but he thought I didn't know.

I didn't say anything. She was my ticket out of there, so I let her have him. Silly girl married him a few months after we finished. Bet she won't shag someone else's boyfriend again.....

Pissed in a pint glass abd threw it out of the window.
I was young, and drunk.

What, glass and all?

When I was at primary school I did something deliberate that directly caused the death of my 6 month old puppy. There was absolutely no malice, it was innocent but poorly thought through. He was a lovely little dog.

What did you do?

LapisBlue · 20/04/2026 18:56

LittlestBoho · 20/04/2026 18:53

That's not a bad thing. You didn't hurt anyone, you were just living your life and having the experiences that suited you at that moment.

P.S. can I get Neil's phone number?

True
I was with Neil for four years afterwards. He was the one who got away.
