You're wrong then. You are making a big mistake thinking everyone is like you. They're not.

I once fantasised about being successful and getting promoted at work. I then worked hard and studied long hours at night and over weekends to make the fantasy a reality. I was rewarded for my hard work and now live very comfortably. I recommend you try it.

I have never waited for easy money to fall into my lap. Especially not someone else's money.

Im sure lots of people wouldn’t be honest , but many more are and do the right thing. Depends on the person doesn’t it.

30 years ago when I was a teenager I found £80 blowing about on the pavement. I took it to the police station and they told me later that a pensioner came in saying he’d lost that amount in the same place…..he was distraught as had nothing left to buy food. I am so glad I handed it in. There is no reason why the owner of the wallet won’t get it back….chances are they will.

No! Why would I fantasise about finding money? The money obviously would not be mine if I have to come across it randomly. If it was a treasure hunt then that’s different. I’ve fantasised about winning the lottery. Finding money strongly assumes the rightful owner has mislaid it.

DH & I were on a very busy station concourse & the guy in front of us at the ATM left without taking his cash. For a split second I admit I was tempted not to do anything & let him just melt into the crowd but then I grabbed the notes & we chased after him. He was so grateful.
I lost my phone once & luckily some honest person had retrieved it from a trolley in Tescos carpark & handed it in to Customer Services. The relief!
I get how hard it can be these days with the COL going crazy but as many pps have said, it’s not worth being a thief & having theft on your conscience.

I found almost £400 in a wallet once.
This was when I was on £80 a week benefits as a single parent.
I handed it in and took the risk of the staff pocketing it. The staff asked me to leave my number but I didn’t think I’d hear anything.

A couple of days later I had a lovely text from a woman who was so grateful that I’d handed it in and it was her rent money.

This was back in the day of Facebook and so I looked her up and there was a post about how grateful she was that a stranger handed in her wallet.
I looked at her profile and she was a single parent with a disabled child and her mum had just died.
I have never been so happy to have handed it in.
Yes I was struggling for money but this woman was also struggling.

Another example was when my friend found a phone when we were out clubbing.
She sent a message to a couple of contacts to say she had the phone.
The owner got back to her and it was an old school friend!
They ended up taking more and they’ve been married for over 10 years now 😊

Why? That’s just theft, if you find someone else’s properly, hand it in! I’m not on the Facebook pages of places that my train travels through, nor do I check Facebook every day, and the algorithm filters out some posts anyway. Hand it in to the proper place so people can find their property.

A lot of people have, especially people who don't have much. The cats arse 'not earning it' as if half the population isn't working their fingers to the bone for shit pay.

You know you done the right thing and it's probably normal to dwell a bit on what you could have done with the money.

My DD once left her backpack in a restaurant on the last day of a school trip to France. By the time she realised, they didn't have time to go back for it as they had a plane to catch. The backpack was returned to us via the restaurant, the French tour organiser, and anyone else who came into contact with it. All cash and electronics fully intact when it arrived back to us. So, OP, you can't assume someone else will take the cash, people do still have integrity.

I think being tempted is normal and I wouldn’t berate a person for having a wistful few seconds but the measure of character would be to just do the right thing and move on.

Even if no one is there to observe good character I think it’s important for a person to know that they do have it. The world is full of people with bad character and it just causes misery for everyone else.

I do feel that if I had to hand something in I would ask for a receipt for it ( which may be easier said than done ) but I’d hate anyone to think I had stolen something when your only trying to help. Depends on where it’s found of course if you can get someone to do a receipt for it. I often see posts on Facebook about missing items and they are reunited with their owners most of the time. I find it heartwarming and hope that someone would do it for me one day if I lost something valuable.

I wouldn’t have handed it in but I would of wrote on local Facebook pages asking if anyone had lost any money if they could say how much or colour of purse etc and then your sure it gets back to owner

I once left my bag on a train and I go it back with everything inside including my purse and all money. The staff would risk losing their job if they took the money out so I doubt most people would steal it.

You did the right thing. £200 is a huge amount of money. I’m sure most people would miss it. That person could have taken that money out to pay someone they owed the money to or for their kids birthday etc. You don’t know if they are also struggling financially. Your husband absolutely made you do the right thing. So think nothing more of it and be guilt free.
