AIBU to expect my sister to store my bike briefly?

On Friday I bought a new bike off marketplace. I currently have my old bike in my hallway as I need to clean it up and sell it so I took my new bike to my sisters and popped it in the hallway. She was at work so I sent her a message saying I’ve temporarily put a bike in her hallway and it will be moved in about a weeks time. Didn’t hear anything back until evening when she messaged telling me to come and move the bike. I told her I had nowhere to put it until I sell my old one but reassured her I’d be cleaning it up over weekend and will list it on Monday.

Yesterday morning she sent another message saying her husband was fuming about the bike saying it was “ruining their hallway” and he wanted it moved. I said it will be moved asap.

This morning I got up to see my new bike sat in front of my house on the driveway. I’ve messaged her and she said she didn’t do it, her husband did. So I said I’m bringing it back as it can’t stay on the driveway because obviously it will get stolen!! Not to mention weather damage. She replied saying not to bring it back or her DH will simply leave it in the street.

Im fuming because there has been many times they have stored stuff at my house and I’ve had to just work around it.

Anyway they have a keyboard at my house and I’ve told her either the bike gets stored there for a few days max or the keyboard goes to live outside. She’s not replied yet.

AIBU?? I could get my bike sold by Wednesday.

A bike isn't going to get weather damaged from being outside for a few days in the spring. You can also bring it indoors overnight as you won't be needing whatever space you put it in. Sounds like you're just putting up false obstacles as to why you can't keep it at your house. What a weird, enmeshed dynamic the two of you seem to have.

Laserwho · 19/04/2026 09:12

At least your BIL brought it back to your house. If you had done this to me I would have removed it to my garden and told you to pick it up. No way would it stay in my hallway and no way would I have brought it back to you.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 19/04/2026 09:12

@AliceNotInChains- is this the same sister who’s child’s birthday cake candles you blew out a short while ago?

If so, perhaps they are just annoyed at you generally and asking a favour when you’ve pissed people off is always tricky, even more so as it appears you didn’t actually ask first.

Anyway, put the spare bike somewhere else in your home. You will have to find space somewhere other than your hallway.

Tell your sister she needs to collect the keyboard in the next week, you no longer will be storing things for each other.

Think about other people before you act. (This thread, the birthday candles, the toilet on holiday with ILs, your threads all has the same theme, you don’t think about other peoples feelings before you act and then are surprised you’ve pissed people off/are questioning if they are right to be annoyed at you/not accepting what works best for you.)

This is why I don’t give a set of my keys to entitled CFs, lol

Btw, is this the same sister who was irate when you blew out your nephew's birthday candles for the LOLZ, @AliceNotInChains ?

Your relationship is currently tanking harder than a freighter in the Straits of Hormuz.

OHHHHHHH! I just got it! 😂

Zov · 19/04/2026 09:05

I really want to say YANBU, as it's just a bike and it's new so it wouldn't be dirty, but just taking it and leaving it there without asking is prime cheeky fecker behaviour. Her husband's reaction seems OTT, but then again, it's cheeky for you to just take it and leave it there. My husband would possibly have done the same. (Chances are that she asked him to do it.)

You should have asked ... @AliceNotInChains

.

EvilParsnip · 19/04/2026 09:05

Assuming this is real, your sister and her husband aren't being unreasonable at all to not want your bike stored in their hallway. Apart from anything else, it's a potential fire hazard.

That said, you both need to grow up and stop using the other's houses as a storage facility.

Even though I dont believe a word of this, a keyboard is not bigger than a bike by the way

It also ignores the fact that the keyboard isn't just lumped in the hallway - a high traffic area of a house, it's in a living room. And the OPs sister has young children who will likely bump off a dirty bike and cause it to fall or scuff etc.

Monzo1ss · 19/04/2026 09:02

It’s just a strange family dynamic, why don’t any of you communicate? You could have asked them in advance instead of using their house key to store your bike there without their consent. You didn’t like it when it happened to you, so why did you not take the initiative to ask in advance?

BMW6 · 19/04/2026 09:00

Why couldn't you put a cheap tarpaulin over the bike in your own garden?

What strange people to be dumping stuff in each others houses like this. Bonkers.

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

Does your home consist of only a hall?

If so, maybe you should start a thread about that (with pictures). You must be a martyr to Ikea's small home solutions.

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:12

The keyboard is in my living room and it’s a big full size piano one

Bigger than a bike then. Move it and replace with bike

Edited to add, I see you are a regular troll now. Ignore my advice

HortiGal · 19/04/2026 08:59

The bike won’t get weather damaged in a few days!!
Chain it to something, christ you’re obtuse.

Miranda65 · 19/04/2026 08:58

I don't understand why you both have keys to each other's houses, tbh. You definitely can't just dump a bike in someone's house without permission.
Just learn to manage your own possessions in your own space - both of you - like pretty much all of us do.

Reported, “sweetie”

For what 😂

Laserwho · 19/04/2026 08:58

Are you going to pay for any damage to the hallway? Or comfort their child if the massive bike falls onto them? Didn't think so. Dont be so entitled

OriginalSkang · 19/04/2026 08:35

There is no possible way someone would continue to post ridiculous threads about their sister when they get this same response every time if they were a genuine poster

Delete away, mods. Sorry

Totally agree, its ridiculous you cant call out obvious bullshit

This too will be deleted.

Thank you! It wouldn’t even be a full week, a few days is all I’m asking. I did say a week initially but after the backlash I said I can sort it in a few days.

You didn’t “ ask” you just did it and also I’d give them their key back so you can’t just dump your shit again and again and expect it all to go your way

OVienna · 19/04/2026 08:57

Ok if she is leaving stuff at your place too this is a big drip feed.

Lomonald · 19/04/2026 08:57

If you don't like her husband and it is likely to cause an argument between them why did you dump it in their house ?

Rainbowunicorn12 · 19/04/2026 08:56

AliceNotInChains · 19/04/2026 08:11

Where exactly??

Anywhere it’s your bike you moron it’s not your sisters responsibility and your not entitled to use other peoples houses as a dumping ground and expect them to be ok with it a bike is different to a keyboard. Jesus Christ. Wake up and smell the coffee if I was your sister I’d be done with you and your spoilt ass
