To think south of France beach clubs have ruined DH

Now he’s acting like a spoilt baby
Saying he won’t go to a normal beach and sit on a towel on the sand and he will only go somewhere he has a sunbed, a proper one

so now I’m trying to find places with beach clubs that are reasonable for this summer

any ideas ? don’t want to go to south of France again

I also enjoy researching and booking holidays OP, so also wouldn’t consider it a hardship.

And I am normally the first to say “let him do his own research”

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 18/04/2026 15:38

I don't blame him. I won't go to a public beach and sit on a towel on the sand either. UK beaches are full of annoying anti-social oiks playing shit music out of their phones and foreign beaches are full of hawkers constantly trying to sell you stuff. And I hate sand.

I'd rather scrape by eyes out with a spoon.

TeddyBearCottage · 18/04/2026 14:54

He says he like it with a proper sunbed ideally with padding

and he likes getting his drink in a proper glass with ice and also being able to go to nice toilets without queueing

and having food brought over and music

I thought that was just called "a decent hotel".

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 18/04/2026 15:37

Tell him to book then.

Many, many public beaches have sunbeds all around the Med and Europe. You don't have to search out an overpriced, 'trendy' beach club to find them. My 50-something-year-old fat arse and saggy baps would cringe in these environments.

My recommendation, if it has to be about the beaches and a short flight, is the Balearics, particularly Mallorca. The small beach below has the most comfortable sunbeds I've ever come across - made from bamboo and with thick, padded cushions. There's a lovely bar and restaurant too.

But I don't know why I'm sharing this, I like to keep it under wraps!

That does look nice, but he might be a bit picky over the toilets

Ok so rather than waste money on beach clubs, just book a hotel that has sun loungers? Or read if there are hireable on the nearest beach.

Am a bit bemused - most beach resort hotels have loungers on the beach and more secluded poolside terraces, bars by the pool, nice loos and towels? Everywhere I’ve ever been in Italy, France, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.

Is this thread real?

If he doesn't like chemicals and germs how does he manage at the airport and on the plane?

Well you don't have much choice how to get to places, you have to go via the airport but when you're there you can chose beach
or pool and That's actually something I do agree with him on, I prefer a nice sandy beach to pool also

Book a private villa and have your own patio and lounger, much beer as you want

Christ, I just go to beaches in Greece where for drinks you get beds for free or most about 8 euro a day. Am I missing something?

Edited

Where in Greece? Curious to know where a drink gets you a bed for free for 8 euro.

Cyprus - tons if bars and restaurants on the beach have sunbeds you can use freely as long as you're a customer.

I’ve been looking for a holiday for myself, my husband who’s recovering from a stroke and our little 6-month-old daughter. This is exactly what I was looking for! Good food, good drinks and a Mediterranean sea breeze. Thanks so much for sharing ♥️

Entire south coast of Spain is littered with them, pretty reasonably priced. I’m with your DH, I wouldn’t put a towel on uncomfortable hot sand either. I want sunbeds, a little table under the parasol, a little lockbox on the parasol for valuables and a nearby bar for tinto de veranos and ice creams. C’mon, surely a bare minimum!

Are you camping in a tent or in a motor home? Is that why you need a beach club? @TeddyBearCottage I along with others on the thread don’t understand why you don’t just book a hotel with beach access. Then there is no extra to pay each day. I never liked lying on a beach towel even when I was young. I probably couldn’t get up from one now 😂.

StirlingStag · 18/04/2026 15:23

Kalkan, Turkey has 10+ beach clubs - some fancier then others. We change it up and go to a different one most days.

We have a home in the south of France. This is a popular beach club near us

https://baiaplage.fr/en/

Thanks for link, but don't want to go back to the south of france this summer

TeddyBearCottage · 18/04/2026 15:22

It's not really just the sunbed, it's being able to have a cocktail or g and t in a proper glass with ice and a slice, and nice toilets that you don't queue for that a big part of it for him
So it's more beach club than just renting a sunbed
But I don't want to waste too much

I'm sure I'll find something not as expensive as last time

Doggymummar · 18/04/2026 15:19

I stayed in a £25 a night b and b in Rhodes and they had them so I don't think it a hard task really

Invisablepanic · 18/04/2026 15:18

I don't think it's an unreasonable request tbh. Maybe post on the holiday forum for ideas or get chat to work you up and itinerary. I think once you've been 'spoilt' with certain things on holiday as an adult it's hard to go back.

I've got certain things I like in holiday as does DH, whoever is researching just takes it into account. Would he be happier with a really good AI hotel with beach access and service?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/04/2026 15:17

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 18/04/2026 14:46

Also many beaches on the med have someone who’ll rent loungers.

This. We’ve always just rented them by the day in Cyprus and Majorca. And on the odd U.K. beach!
