Loose women conspiracy

Does anyone else find it a bit strange that they just disappeared off air and are still not back?
They say it’s due to budget cuts and stick on a load of game show repeats. It’s a P take, can’t believe we pay a tv licence for this

When are they back? Barely watching itv now

No you wouldn’t if it’s not live.

Yes you do. You need a TV license to watch catch up TV.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/04/2026 14:38

ktopfwcv · 15/04/2026 14:32

Still have to pay

Again, no.

Still have to pay

You don't have to pay for a licence fee for any catchup TV apart from BBC iPlayer - but you obviously do still have to pay for your Internet connection and any data costs.

A lot of people who enjoy daytime TV are elderly, and they are the specific demographic which includes a lot of people who are either not online or are, but aren't fully savvy/comfortable about using it as freely as a digital-native younger person might be. If the only thing you ever want to watch is Countdown - at the regular time, as you're used to - you've still got to pay the BBC.

topcat2014 · 15/04/2026 14:33

But you are required to have a TV licence to watch ITV

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 15/04/2026 14:33

And you are paying a licence fee to fund the BBC (who then make you pay for it to watch live TV).

ktopfwcv · 15/04/2026 14:33

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/04/2026 13:37

Loose Women doesn’t need to be watched live.

You'd still need a TV license.

EarthlyNightshade · 15/04/2026 14:32

What's the conspiracy?

Was it on to distract us from global warming?

ktopfwcv · 15/04/2026 14:32

ToKittyornottoKitty · 15/04/2026 14:11

She could just watch loose women on catch up rather than live and then she doesn’t have to pay for the tv licence.

Still have to pay

awfulapril · 15/04/2026 14:32

Steph is awful

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 15/04/2026 14:32

Could it be because they have realised it’s total bollocks?

awfulapril · 15/04/2026 14:31

It's ITV. Nothing to do with a tv licence

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 15/04/2026 14:31

Cantatopeatingthespicyones · 15/04/2026 14:17

Regain ground by putting on repeats of game shows 😬 I can’t imagine anyone sitting around watching that

Gameshows (even repeats) may not be everybody's cup of tea, but they do have a reasonable audience - if they didn't, ITV Quiz would never have been launched.

They're also extremely cheap for them - so if the option is either go to a lot of trouble and expense to (unsuccessfully) win back viewers or otherwise press 'Play' on an archive gameshow that will get in some viewership, you can see why they'd choose the latter!

WhereIsMyLight · 15/04/2026 14:30

Cantatopeatingthespicyones · 15/04/2026 14:19

I don’t believe that, most people enjoy it

If “most” people like it, that’s the real conspiracy theory!

You like it. You does not equal most people. This poll suggests that more double the amount of people dislike it than actually like it - https://yougov.com/en-gb/topics/tv_programme/Loose_Women.

True - but you shouldn't have to find a workaround to access a service (in a way that might not be as convenient for you) without some random third party demanding access to your purse.

Also, some people can only afford very limited data packages, and streaming TV/video will use this up very quickly indeed.

InterestedDad37 · 15/04/2026 14:26

They hibernate every now and then, so they're currently asleep in a cupboard at ITV waiting till the time comes to wake up and carry on.

I thought Steph's packed lunch was awful too! There really aren't many good options for anyone who wants to watch TV during the day at all IMO.

Hasn't ITV launched a whole channel that just shows repeats of game shows all day? A big hit with my elderly FIL!

Their normal channel is almost like that now!

I miss Stephs Packed Lunch. When Channel Four cancelled it they claimed it was because ppl wanted to see something different Apparently that was repeats of Four In A Bed.
At least ITV were honest when saying it was down to cost

The licence fee (paying licence fee to the BBC vs watching live TV debate aside) doesn’t guarantee your favourite shows get to continue indefinitely. If everyone else thinks the show is shit and nobody is watching it, the channel will cancel it or run less episodes of it. Shows get cancelled all the time and they just disappear. There isn’t a conspiracy behind it, then show just isn’t making enough money for the broadcasting company.

I don’t believe that, most people enjoy it

I can believe that conspiracy!

Channel 5 have recently changed their offering so that it's all phone-in/panel discussion shows all day until 3pm. It's kind of informal-but-serious for the most part (with only the occasional 'silly' topic) - so maybe that's taken viewers from ITV and they're trying to regain ground by beefing up what they offer?

No frothing here at all - I'm very happy to pay for the BBC, for all of its faults, but I think it's outrageous that people who have no interest in watching BBC TV still have to pay for it - like legally having to pay Tesco to be allowed to buy food from Asda.

Of course you're right that none of OP's licence fee payment is going towards Loose Women; but she does still have to pay for it, even if that's the only TV programme she ever watches - and I don't think it's unfair for people to be annoyed when they have to pay for something but don't receive it, regardless of how the spoils are (or aren't) split.

She could just watch loose women on catch up rather than live and then she doesn’t have to pay for the tv licence.

JenniferBooth · 15/04/2026 14:09

corlan · 15/04/2026 13:13

If you're missing Loose Women I suggest you seek out a cafe or perhaps a social club where you can replicate the experience by eavesdropping on a group of not particularly bright or informed women talking with absolute conviction about subjects they know fuck all about.

Bit unfair Are you saying Myleene Klass knows nothing about baby loss or that Katie Piper knows nothing about crime.
