My stepdad tried to get with my stepmum before he met my mum. My mum would divorce him if she found out I think.

Ok thank you. Eye colour goes back to grandparents though. Which doctors were blood testing children and why would the mum consent to it if she knew the baby was someone else's?

People get their blood type tested all the time for all types of medical things.

ViolettaScrambler · 09/04/2026 09:54

My husband and I go swinging. We’ve done all sorts. If our sensible friends knew it would be big gossip 😂😂

Some secrets I'll never tell. Time is a great healer.

Oohhh I like this 🧐

I once found out years ago, that an ex colleague (married woman with two kids), was actually in a polyamorous relationship, and they all lived together.

It turned out that there was
"Husband"
Wife no. 1
Wife no. 2, who was also Wife no. 1's sister!
Wife no. 3
Wife no. 4, who was Wife no. 3's sister!!

They all lived together in one big house, and there were children with three of the wives.

And the best part?
He didn't work, he stayed home, whilst all 4 wives went out to work, and they all kept him!
He must have been living the dream.
And these women were all professional intelligent women. Think, nurse, teacher, vet type thing.

Still blows my mind when I think about it 🤯🤯

I usually find it irritating when people ask on MN if men have magic penises but in this case I think this must be the only explanation!

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 09/04/2026 09:39

My sister is having an affair with my brother’s business partner and if it gets out this will probably implode my brother’s business which he’s worked so hard for. Normally I’m a “not my circus not my monkeys” person but I feel like she kind of is a monkey from my circus. Best case scenario it just fizzles out. It’s even worse because we spend time with the affair partners family like we had to go on an Easter egg hunt with them and I felt sick the whole time to the point my kids were asking why I’m not having any eggs.

Your sister is a horrible person.
I don't know how she can live with herself.

Reminds me a bit of Minnie Driver—she and her sister were the result of a long-term affair whilst her father was married and had a family.

True

Although if you order at lunchtime, the pizza is cheaper everyday 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Missing the point of the thread but delighted you’ve shared this tip (I know what I’m having for lunch, haha).

It's a statistic that came from doctors blood testing children and from knowing the inheritance of eye colour and some inherited diseases.

I don't know how accurate it is.

It's good that there are such strict restrictions - patents need to know their data is safe. Separately, though, I have two unrelated friends, who live in different countries, who have both found out that their fathers are not their fathers through Ancestry DNA type testing. In both cases they were using the system to find extended family - neither had any idea that their immediate family was not as it seemed. It's much more likely that this sort of information will come out now than it was before.

We have come across a few secret relatives with ancestry , one case is sad it's on my dms side but was from mother and baby home and none of us can figure out who his parents could have been so can't help him find any info. I can't imagine what it's like to hit a brick wall like that

A housemate from uni is still with the same boyfriend she had when I knew her. Really sweet guy. We’re now nearing 40. She’d put off having kids for ages when a few years ago he told her he really wanted kids and if she didn’t he’d like to move on and find someone who did. So she said ok let’s try for a baby.

Unbeknownst to him she continued to take the pill while “trying” for several years. Then pretended she couldn’t face IVF and cried it was probably all her fault because she’d had an eating disorder and he felt too bad to push it. So they’ve now given up. I feel so bad for him.

This happened to a male cousin of mine. They stuck together, but he has developed serious MH/alcohol problems due to the fact he never got over, and is so sad about, never becoming a father. He’s been through therapy about it. Meanwhile she enjoys lots of far flung holidays and expensive hobbies, trips with ‘the girls’ because she didn’t tell him the truth about not wanting children and letting him have the option of deciding if he would accept that or move on and find someone to create a family with. So sad.

We can be dismissed for accessing medical information for non-medical reasons so I would say it's highly unlikely that she would find out through her work.

I'm an academic. I know of two instances of married professors sleeping with PhD students. Contrary to what you might expect, they were female professors sleeping with male PhD students. Even more awkwardly, both of their husbands were also professors in the same department. One of the cuckolded husbands was on the thesis committee of the student who was sleeping with his wife. It was widely known. So awkward.

On a slightly unrelated note, there is a philosophy academic in the US called Agnes Callard who did something similar, but has spent most of the time since trading in her husband for the younger PHD student trying to intellectualise the fact she just fancied sleeping with a younger man. It's quite amusing to witness

CuteOrangeElephant · 09/04/2026 09:29

A bit more lighthearted but when I was a child I used to live next to a big family. The parents were always a bit alternative but apparently they have really gone off the deep end now.

The father of the family apparently genuinely believes his youngest son is a reincarnated alien.

The youngest son being the kindest, most normal and stable member of the family.

My SIL realised that her dad wasn’t her biological father through a school project on blood. She asked her parents what blood group they were, and years later when she was pregnant found her blood group matched neither of them.

My son has a different blood group to me and DH but he is definitely DHs, they are like twins

CuteOrangeElephant · 09/04/2026 09:27

I have at least one secret sibling, conceived by my father when he was already with his second ex-wife! Hence the ex. There are strong rumours that there is a second one.

I daren't ever do one of these DNA tests, too afraid what turns up!

AfternoonVanessa · 09/04/2026 09:25

Previous employer is subject to a takeover bid. I did the research insight into it yesterday for the other company.
Sadly they will make millions.
Not sure they deserve it but I'll get nowt after refusing their stinky contract.

Looking it up, it's believed to be between 1 and 3 %. Figures on DNA tests are a lot higher because they are being done in the first place because of suspicion over paternity.

CasperGutman · 09/04/2026 09:23

My neighbour is definitely up to something interesting, most likely prostitution. Front curtains always drawn. A series of different, mostly very expensive, cars park out the back.

The local police have rung our front door bell a couple of times over the last year to ask whether we've seen anything suspicious "in the local area", "how well we know our neighbours" and whether we ever hear any disturbances late at night. We never do. Most of the comings and goings seem to be in the day, but no sound is ever audible outside her house.

We've only met the neighbour a couple of times. She's an attractive woman, probably about 35-40. Polite. Friendly but reserved. Last time we spoke I asked about splitting the cost of getting the fence replaced as the posts were rotting. The deeds say it's a shared boundary but she wouldn't let us contribute and had her own contractor build a very solid, very expensive and durable-looking replacement fence the following week. So, clearly she has plenty of money – and values privacy and controlling when work is done and by whom over saving a few grand....

Yeah how can you measure somebody not knowing something. They'll just never know it and are hardly likely to start filling out surveys about it.

My MIL used to shag her 1st cousin, and only stopped when his Dad told him to stop, as he was also her Dad, so they were half siblings.

😳

CallItLoneliness · 09/04/2026 02:51

You really can't imagine a situation where she (for example) works out that her Dad can't be her Dad through e.g. blood types? It really doesn't require sophisticated insight into the medical records of a parent for this to come to light, especially when older parents lean on medical children for medical support, and disclose their own medical information.

I just listened to a podcast called inconceivable truth or something like that , a man thought he should try to have a relationship with his deadbeat dad ,he left when he was small and he was raised by his lovely stepdad. Turns out mom was insemination in 70s by donor sperm not her husbands like she thought. Regulations didn't exist at the time . There are 23 and me and my heritage dna tests freely available he used these . She will find out and be devastated by the lies

Did she tell you? What a cruel and selfish admission. As this is secrets, I think the same has happened to my DS and DiL. He made the ultimatum, she couldn't face IVF and took them down a potential surrogacy route for a couple of years, then couldn't face the horror of that. So they're back to IVF, but not yet quite started. Meanwhile time marches on/runs out. They're in their late 30s. He has always wanted children. She never did, until just after the ultimatum. Now apparently she dearly wants them too, but looks like stalling to me. I hope i'm wrong.
