Our very well off, successful and outwardly happy mortgage broker is utterly miserable in his 'perfect' marriage and made a pass at my friend at a party.

Two managers I worked with were having an affair for over a year and would ask for my advice and support constantly about it. He called it off when his wife found some messages but he managed to convince her it was never sexual (absolute bollocks) so they've stayed together.

Going back to the previous post about the secret drinker neighbour, I think the folk who commented indignantly have missed the point that the neighbour deliberately put the empty vodka bottles in the PP's bin rather than her own, and in the dead of night. That's definitely the behaviour of somebody concealing their secret drinking, though whether it's herself or others she's trying to deceive...

Ravetothrgrave I hope you can! There are some interesting stories on YouTube about people meeting up with long lost relatives and discovering there history.

RaveToTheGrave1 · 09/04/2026 20:11

I did 23andMe and found out my grandad wasnt actually my real one, my horrible grandmother who had always took the mick out of my other grandmother for having a black boyfriend, had actually been with a man from St Kitts who she had presumably met whilst doing something for the war (she would never say what) I told my father for years it was obvious he was mixed even though he was white passing there were some things like hair texture and his skin colour in summer and features, swore up and down I was wrong cos he's racist as anything, 23andMe proved me right 😂 found a bunch of new relatives, desperately want to meet them all in St Kitts one day!

Walking my dog on dark nights, we pass a house with a large widow and open curtains where a huge tv is often showing porn. When I mentioned it to another dog walker, she told me I must be mistaken because the owner is very elderly and a highly regarded and rather prim chapel goer. I wear glasses but couldn't imagine how I’d been mistaken. My son came out walking with me over the holidays and confirmed I wasn't mistaken at all. The only thing that puzzles me is why he never draws the curtains.

I have 2:

I found out my ex husband had another child from before we met (when he was married to someone else) when he tried claim on a tax form we were still together and the tax office sent me his claim forms for the past 5 years. No one in his family knows about the child. I waited till the daughter we had together was 18, and then I told her. She’s never brought it up again.

Not gossip but a terrible story- I have a friend whose 16 year old brother was killed in a farm accident. His father was the farmer and utterly broken by the event. In the evening after the funeral, the mother confided in my friend, her older son, that she’d had an affair and that the deceased brother was not her husband’s child. An unforgivable burden of truth to put on someone. My friend was 19 at the time. He never told his father.

Both sad and years ago:

My then manager told me his best mate had got divorced partially because they couldn't have children. Around the same time my then DP and I visited his newly married cousin, who had been married before. She'd got divorced due to DV and her ExH had beaten two early pregnancies out of her. I can't remember what made the penny drop but one crucial detail made it clear the cousin had been married to my manager's best mate. I kept that to myself.

And a friend with eastern European heritage once expressed sadness she knew little of her father's history, just a few bits about how he arrived in the UK after the war. He was quite old when she was born and had passed away years before I knew her. I got curious and did some digging on her behalf. He'd told her he'd been on the allies side but the few details she did know didn't add up to that. It seems very likely he was a member of a notorious Nazi SS Division made up of eastern European volunteers and that committed many atrocities. Another one to keep to myself.

I knew a guy who worked with my dad from Poland when I was a boy. A few years later dad told me he'd been a prisoner of war fighting for Germany as a volunteer...he was a really nice guy and a great father but...

She could be Peppermilks husbands sister.

Thanks for that... I had been getting tied up on how else it could be someone not a brother of the poster's husband - was driving me mad! Makes sense now!

StephensLass1977 · 09/04/2026 20:00

Years ago when working in a very large nursing body, two separately happily married women were both having affairs - with each other! I saw them when I was actually on a day off, renewing my passport 😂.

I also have an uncle who went to prison for many years for a crime which I know AS FACT that he didn't do. I know the girls involved as they are also family - the so-called victims. They were honestly anything but victims, and the whole thing was a concoction by them. We all tried our best but the poor man went inside for 15 years.

This reminded me of the old Bird’s Eye chicken pie adverts with June Whitfield. Absolute classics of the 70s.

Do you have a source for this? This particular statistic is very difficult to measure, for obvious reasons.

Many years ago scientists were researching blood types ,rhesus negative ?
They tested the blood of the male prisoners and their children. and found that of around 10% of these children could not have been fathered by these men.
A very different demographic to tge general public

SssshButWeAllKnow · 09/04/2026 19:38

My line manager is shagging a colleague. She has been promoted beyond her capabilities.
We’re all facing redundancies now but she’s been protected by a heavily weighted skills audit.
They’re both married.

ElsieMc · 09/04/2026 19:36

@ToughStuff I am in England, the NW. My cousin was loved, my adoptive dad kept photos of him, and newspaper cuttings which I now hold. He is talked of. These relationships are complex and sensitive for all concerned.

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 09/04/2026 19:34

It’s no longer a secret but it is very Jeremy Kyle - My cousin and a baby with a woman, they broke up and she started a relationship with his brother. Brothers stayed on good terms. When that relationship ended she disappeared and it wasn’t until that child was 15 that she reached out to her dad and she came back in to her dads life. A few years later she tells her dad that it’s an open secret in her mums house that her younger sister is her uncles child.

DNA test proves it, when she finished with the second brother she was pregnant but never told him. No one knew she existed.

No one comes out of this looking good. Brother 1 should have done more to get visitation. Brother 2 should have left his brothers ex alone and the mum should never have disappeared with the oldest and should never have kept the youngest a secret.

I managed a team and one day a worker didn’t come in. The next morning his wife and young daughter came looking for him, he’d simply disappeared, taking the family car so his wife couldn’t get to work.
Several days passed and his car was found at Heathrow.
He’d met a woman online from Malaysia and flown off to be with her without telling anyone.
To my knowledge 20 years later he’s still there with another family.

What a scummy coward of a man

My husband's late dad had a secret family. My husband was part of the secret side. It all came out when he died. The children in the first family were still teenagers so it's not certain what they knew or were told at the time. My husband was still in primary school and was told about his half siblings but never met them - the secret family wasn't allowed to attend the funeral).

One of my colleagues is my husband's half sister but she doesn't know that I know this. I don't even know if she knows about her half siblings, never mind that my husband is one of them. I certainly will not be the person to mention any of this.

That reminds me of a former friend of mine. She and her brothers were raised by their mum and stepdad. Their biological dad used to work away a lot on building contracts, but whilst away, he was also raising another family. Her mum found out in the end and divorced him.

Whatexcellentboiledpotatoes · 09/04/2026 18:56

Ooh I just thought of one

FIL and MIL divorced when DH was little, so almost 40 years ago.
FIL then married step-MIL a few years later, they had a long and happy marriage of over 30 years until FIL sadly passed away three years ago.

All six of MIL and FIL's kids know that MIL and FIL were still sleeping together in the early years of FIL and step-MIL's marriage but step-MIL has no idea and noone is ever going to tell her.

She lives with happy memories of her beloved husband and it's going to stay that way.

My great-great grandmother got pregnant with my great grandmother before she married my great-great grandfather. She had my great-grandmother after they got married.

This is in no way particularly juicy gossip but my god, the way it was whispered about in the family generations down the line, you'd think it was scoop of the century 🙄

My 2 neighbours who live opposite are having an affair. I happened to spot them one afternoon going into the females house she opened the door in a flimsy dressing gown and I could see them kissing through the window beside the front door. Ive noticed him running into her house a few times since.

Oooh this sounds familiar. Are you in a county starting with ‘L’ by any chance?!

Ooh can you tell us where you are thinking. I’m pretty certain my old neighbours were swingers but our area begins with ‘H’..
