I think you have my former cleaner! She was also completely flaky. I felt like an arse sacking her but feeling better after seeing this.

By the sound of it you are paying her for a clean house, not an hourly rate.

If she manages to get the house spotless in 15 seconds or 5 hours you still end up with the same service result: a clean house.

I do domestic private cleaning,i charge 15 pounds an hour,minimum 2 hour clean or not worth my time,i provide products etc,there is no way in hell shes doing a thorough clean of a 4 bed home,only done every fortnight! Thats alot of money when shes only now doing 1 hour have you checked the standard of her work now shes only doing 1 hour? I would personally be unhappy.

Is that £15 an hour each? That's basically minimum wage for manual labour. That seems unfair. Manual labour should have a higher minimum wage. And earlier retirement.

The quote was based on work done not hourly. If OP wants to pay hourly she can take a gamble and switch to a cleaner that will charge hourly, and may choose to draw out the same or even worse less work over 3 hours.

From your description it sounds we have similar properties, I have a fortnightly clean for £60, 2 ladies are there for around 1.5 to 2 hours. At first they were longer, I think once they get to know your house and it’s being done regular it makes things quicker but there is 2 of them, not sure how she’s doing all the jobs in that time on that size of a house.

You need your cleaner to clarify her hourly rate. In my area it’s around £16-20 per hour. The time needed depends on what you want doing.

Dump! If people aren't prepared to tell you how many hours cleaning they will do for the money, they are intending to rip you off which she did!
We had a man over recently to quote us for supplying and laying some engineered wood flooring. When I asked him how much he charges per metre for the flooring his reply was "That's not how I work. I give you a quote for the job!" It was obvious that if he didn't want us to know how much he as charging for the flooring he was going to rip us off. Sure enough, quote came in at £16,000!

I pay £18/hr in Kent (until recently it was £15/hr for same small local company and we have a fixed number of hours - once per fortnight (which is my choice, I could opt for once a week). She does 3hrs for a 3bed house, the 3rd bedroom is a box room. Only 1 bathroom + downstairs loo. Only 2 rooms downstairs (kitchen-diner, & living room).

Unusual not to charge by the hour I think. I wouldn’t be happy if she was there for 1 hour. I’d expect at least 3.5-4 hours

We have a 3 bed/1 bed terrace. Fortnightly clean. Takes 2.5 hours per clean at £50. Leeds based. I’d expect a 4 bed would be 3/3.5 hours at £60/£65 as a rough idea

I surely have no problem with that, I used to do cleaning job when I was a student and I worked in care home, so sanitary pads, vomits and hair from the plug holes don’t move me a bit 😃

There’s a group for cleaners on Facebook. It’s a real eye opener. They’re mainly grafters with the occasional grifter who stands out a mile. I think yours falls in the latter category, but you already know that or you wouldn’t be here.

us too for a weekly clean and she does 4 hours. 5 bedroom house, large kitchen, dining room, 2 lounge , playroom, and utility room. We only use 2 bedrooms so the other 3 are just hoovered and windows open and closed. I clean in between!

I do private cleaning,a 4 bed house every 2 weeks should be 3 hours max and 75 pounds is too much 😑

I’m a professional cleaner and charge per job solely to ensure I have enough time to clean homes properly without running out of time. I’d expect a clean of your home to take around 3 - 4 hours. What on earth did she manage to do in an hour? It would take this amount of time to vacuum and mop hard floors alone in most houses. Bathrooms take a good half hour each minimum, kitchens take around an hour too. Did she provide a list of jobs she would do on each clean?

It's quite easy to make a place "look clean" but you can't do a real clean in an hour. She's dishonest. She's charging rates that are not reasonable or honest. I wouldn't trust her with anything.

Absolutely yes, you have been ripped off. I used to pay 70 for 4 hoursI decluttered and tidied before they came and it always took at least 4 hours for a 3 bed 2 bath.

I've given up on cleaners now. They either start well and go downhill, or start taking the puss or leave you in the lurch. I'm a cleaner myself and really want a cleaner for my own house because I've had enough by the time I get home.
