Will antisemitism ever be looked at and dealt with in the same way as Islamophobia is?

AIBU for thinking it won’t? Because it doesn’t seem to be the case in this country or my home country (Germany).

(I just googled because it didn’t seem right to have antisemitism in lower capitals, but apparently that is correct, as I thought)

Much love to the Jewish community, wherever they are.

Christians had their "holy wars" before machine guns, planes, and weaponised cars existed. "They" also stopped killing in God's name, swapping it for "King and country" for land grabs, oil, ego, and whatever other stupid "reason" inspired their folly.
Men are dangerous predators and can't stop themselves and the rest of us suffer for it.

The Iraq war wasn’t ‘in the name of’ Christianity, therefore whatever the religious beliefs of the men that started it are not relevant. 🤷‍♀️

PP and I talked about this century because that is the time period in which we are living. If you want to do a running total of all the religious killings across the world since the birth of man, Christians are still not responsible for the highest number of deaths in the name of religion as that is not the Christian ethos, especially nowadays. It’s just a bit harder to count.

So it's ok for Christians to kill people - or those deaths somehow don't count- if the killing isn't done in the name of religion? Or is it the skin colour of the people dying that negates their deaths? Terrorists are bad but state sponsored killing is ok? How does that work? If you want to count killings done by Muslims vs killings done by Christians then I think all those deaths are part of the count.

Edited to add: from the point if view of the person being murdered I'm not sure the "why" matters all that much.

Hallamule · 09/04/2026 16:28

No because Chrisians have killed way too many to count. Second Iraq war was 500,000 Iraquis wasn't it? We're definitely ahead on points.

But why stop at 20 years? Why don't we talk about the destabilisation of Iran in 1953, when the UK and US (good Christian countries) removed the democratically elected head of state and replaced him with the Shah? A lot of Iranias have died thanks to that decision? Or we could talk about the CIA meddling in the DRC, or the Vietnam war or the partition of India. Or do those not count because the victims weren't from the West?

Like what?

As a starting point, can you provide the number of people killed in the last 20/30 years by Islamic terrorists/regimes vs the number of people killed by Christians?

You're going to go wild when you hear what the Christians have been up to.

I have no idea how the islamic faith has sucked up so much airtime this century. Oh wait...maybe it's because of "honour killings", terrorism and so on?
Not all muslims, of course.
But maybe that's why it's called islamoPHOBIA?

Not sure why antisemitism exists, except perhaps jealousy.

Anti Jew attitudes are an historic theme, for sure. But there has been recent increase in both anti-Israelism and antisemitism is obviously due to Israel's aggressive defence policies. And it is the recent increase which has made it comparable in some ways to the general and persistent Islamophobia that has been around (promoted?) for the last few decades.

So my take on the OP is that it has got worse for Jews, but it has been bad for Muslims and Arabs for some time. Not something to score and compete about, just a shame on all of us.

So what was the excuse before 1948?

Sorry, but its just the good old antisemitism with a convenient excuse. There was always an excuse, people always felt justified to attack and hate Jews when they did it.

Anti semitism has been around since the jews were forced into the diaspora. Israel is the excuse de jour right now.

It tells you a lot about the hip hop 'community' that they were flocking to buy tickets to see someone who has fuelled animosity between black people and Jews in the USA. And he was headlining for three nights, not just one.

To be honest, it doesn't surprise me at all.

Various Labour party high ups have had the boot for antisemitism, but Islamophobic sentiments are a badge of honour to many.

I do believe that global events of the last few years have created a rise in anti-Israel opinions, and a corresponding rise in anti-Zionism and yes a smaller but real increase in straight up antisemitism. But this is against a background of general and persistent Islamophobia which has been going on for thirty years or more (the limit of my political conscious).

I don't think there is any point in arguing who has it worse.

Islamophobia is taken more seriously than anti-Semitism in the UK. Imagine if 'Ye' had made a load of anti-Muslim comments and produced anti-Muslim merch. Would he have been booked to headline a major music festival? Of course not.

I don’t like the fact that Jewish people are impacted by antisemitism and hate crimes.

I don’t think Muslim people have it any better quite frankly.

I’m Indian and having to see over 20’000 brown children die and no western government actually care about that grieves me. I have a brown child and to see how little value is placed on their lives is appalling. It makes me realise that as a non Muslim brown person that we have little value placed on our lives regardless of religion.

What brown children are you talking about?

The difference is that the antisemitic man has been cancelled and banned from the country. The Islamophobic man has been welcomed back to his seat in parliament where no one seems to care how abhorrent his views are.

Agreed it's utterly depressing - as is the LFI bollocks! Please do not let anyone try to bully you out of a conversation by using false accusations. It's in the playbook of people who have no legitimate argument.

I'm not underplaying racism in our government. I thibk what thr MP said was awful. Just not as bad as being a literal fucking Nazi.

I think that being a Nazi, praising a man who killed six million Jews and making many antisemitic comments over years is worse than making one ignorant Islamophobic tweet about mass prayer. How fucking dare me.

Do not try gaslighting because it won't work. You've just accused someone of underplaying Nazism and Holocaust denial because they are pointing out the false equivalence of your statement. Stop it - you don't want to be falsely accused of things do you? No. So stop doing it to others, it's absolutely lowlife behaviour.

So you're overlooking the fact that Labour Friends of Israel has been accepting money from Israel for years - including Keir Starmer and David Lammy? Labour's top team has accepted hundreds of thousands from the Israel Lobby and some of us think that is extremely questionable - which is fine, because it doesn't make us antisemitic, it means that we are free thinking people who look at the facts.

💯 agree.

I've added this to the wrong quote - sorry, was too furious about someone accused in real time. Sorry Dexter!

Back in the 1940's hatred towards Jews bought votes in Germany.
Votes bought power
Power bought money.
