AIBU to be fed up with him always eating my food?

Been seeing someone for about 12 weeks, he told me he had weight loss surgery a few years ago which makes it difficult for him to eat big meals. Fair enough. Issue is that he CONSTANTLY says he’ll “just have a tiny bit of” whatever im eating. Its driving me nuts. If we decide to get a takeaway he’ll say he won’t get one for himself but he’ll have “a tiny bit” of mine. If we get fish and chips he’ll “just have a tiny bit” of mine … but it’s never a tiny bit, its almost half everytime.

We went to cinema a few weeks ago, he said he’d just “have a few” of my popcorn … he ate more of it than I did. I swear most of it was gone before the film started.

So last week I snapped. We went to Lincoln and I saw some lovely looking sausage rolls in the window of a bakery and said I was going to buy one. He said “ooo yes they do look nice! I won’t get a full one though, I’ll just have a tiny bit of yours”. I snapped “no sorry, you’ll have to get your own, I’m not going to stand in the street dividing up a sausage roll”. He seemed suprised and said “oh! Ok … well I suppose I could get one and have half now and half later?” So I said “do what you want, it’s a sausage roll for gods sake”.

Rest of the day was a bit awkward! But I’ve had enough of it, it’s ridiculous.

He’s just asked if I fancy going to York this week and getting a Yorkshire pudding wrap. I replied “yes, one each” so he said “well I don’t know if I could eat a full one” so I said “well no then, let’s not bother”.

AIBU here?? I’m missing just being able to go out and eat/snack a normal couple!

Feeling this irritated by him after 12 weeks is definitely not a good sign. He sounds incredibly annoying and just a massive ick.

JJMama · 05/06/2026 21:18

Sounds more like a money thing than an eating thing.

He’s cheap.

No, she just doesn't like him taking her food

I absolutely stand by my opinion that there's no liking here whatsoever.

Justnetballandcoffee · 03/04/2026 11:59

Read the updates now OP. I think you should dump him as it does sound like he's well and truly turned you off 😂

He does sound obsessed. I get that he might be restricted but there's loads of stuff in York if the Yorkshire pudding wouldn't work and at worst he could just get one and eat half or does he not have the restraint for that?

Justnetballandcoffee · 03/04/2026 11:56

YANBU and I'm glad you said something.

It is annoying and it's cheeky of him if he doesn't ever offer to get you anything. Even if he were just having a little bit, he could say I'll get coffees / drinks as you paid for lunch.

If it were a one off it's different but he can't expect to do this every time you eat something and you wouldn't be wrong to point out he's eating more than half. He's taking the piss if you're paying.

Resounding no from me .

I keep checking back to see if there’s an update!!! Dying to know how the dumping went!

I’m hoping she dumped him too! Or that he’s vowed never to pinch her food or ever mention possible food when plans are being made EVER again and sticks to it forever 🌮

More than likely he can’t possibly manage that and she’s dumped him 😁

WonderingAndOverthinking · 02/04/2026 21:37

Have you dumped him yet OP? 🌭

Thank you for explaining.

JanBlues2026 · 02/04/2026 22:04

Such a shame York doesn’t have any cafes, restaurants or pubs

Nettie1964 · 02/04/2026 18:22

Dump him and his food issues it sounds so boring. I have a friend who always says when in a restaurant " this is huge I never eat big meals like this" her mother was a food Nazi and a fat shamer, so I take no notice and eat my food with gusto. Living with someone like this is so stressful though my friend is lovely but all her children have food/weight issues. What other issues is he hiding? Apart from being tight?

No, she just doesn't like him taking her food

And only agreeing to days out after checking the potential food available for him (after agreeing not to) and also implying she’s a fat bastard for wanting to eat her own food!

I’d also have the ick and would get rid

OK, well now that I'm caught up it's crystal clear that you just don't like him lol. Move on :)

It's unreasonable not to have a real talk about it. Is this the only thing? If this is the one thing making a bigger, more general feeling visible then just end it.

I’ve had weight loss surgery and can’t eat a full sized portion, but I don’t eat other peoples food - just buy my own and then take home whatever I don’t eat (if that’s possible).

That is probably because you are a normal person - not a show-off "under-eater" who actually is just a sponger

So he is insecure and tries to undermine you. Ditch him. You will not be able to fix him no matter how hard you think you can.

"Anyway he replied saying it’s easy for me to say as I’m not restricted in what I can eat 🙄"

I'd have replied "YOU keep restricting what I eat by stealing HALF OF MY FUCKING FOOD".

This guy clearly has an eating disorder and needs to seek professional help.

Please follow your gut instinct (no pun intended), and dump Mr. Ick.

🤣

Whatinthedoopla · 01/04/2026 22:36

At least you know his keeping you slim.

I would be annoyed about the popcorn!!

Oh that would drive me insane. My husband had never tried Chinese food when we met so I once ordered a take away he tried some then got a fork and started digging in I just raised my eyebrow and said ‘I’ll dish up some for you bit next time you order your own!’ I hate when people want to share but take massive amounts of the dish.
