What’s wrong with me, hospital clueless

Yesterday at 1pm, I put my 6 month old on the rug with his toys and went for a wee.

As I was walking back I had a sudden severe pain in my right side radiating into my lower back and up to my shoulder, I was in agony.

I called DH who was luckily only on a job 15 mins away, he came straight home and took one look at me and called ambulance, I was shouting out in pain they gave me gas and air and morphine.

I had an emergency CT when dye last night and also have a catheter as lost the ability to wee. Nothing showed on CT, they got me settled on morphine and today I’ve had a transvaginal scan which shows ovaries and womb look normal.

Gynae can’t find a reason so they’ve stopped painkillers and just giving me paracetamol but somethings wrong I feel like somebody’s twisting my insides. The gynae consultant was horrible and said the surgical team will come see me if they think it’s worth it?? So I’m waiting for that if they come.

I’m in so much pain and genuinely scared they’ll send me home not knowing what is wrong with me.

Has anyone has anything similar?

I’m sorry to those that don’t believe me but it’s very real and very scary. This is my current view. I’ll stop posting now, I’ve had a chest xray, more bloods and pain relief. Thank you to all of those who’ve sent suggestions and kind messages/well wishes. You kind people who actually help and give advice are the reason I’ve been on Mumsnet for so many years. Hopefully I get full answers now and I can get better and home to my babies and DH. DH is writing a huge complaint to PALS. My DD was screaming as I was on the floor lips turning blue and choking on my own vomit just hours after they discharged me. That’s not okay and I hope anyone who reads this thread advocates for themselves better than I did yesterday when I let them discharge me.

Don't beat yourself up about not advocating for yourself. You did the best you could, this is on those who discharged you without knowing why you were in so much pain.

Londonrach1 · 29/03/2026 14:02

Op complain complain complain. Your treatment has been awful.. also get pals on the case. You need answers. X

jamimmi · 29/03/2026 14:01

Gentle hugs OP, hopfully you are now on the road to recovary. My bet on why you have yet to get an explanation is because they are trying to get thier story straight as to why somthing was missed. Definatly a PALS case and possibly more. Ask the Nurse in charge for a doctor / surgeon to come and discuss your care with you before 5pm, its Sunday and staffing will be low. I dont think this is a disussion for anyone less than the reg, but really the consultant should be seeing you. Post d/c I'm farily sure PALS will support a formal complaint from your posts

Sassylovesbooks · 29/03/2026 14:01

Bless your heart ❤️ I hope you have some answers shortly. I think cases like yours OP, clarify to me, that we know our own bodies. We know when there's something wrong or not quite right. I remember being given a nebuliser in hospital every night, and telling the nurses it made my breathing worse. No one would listen to me, until one night I lost my shit, and a nurse finally did a breath test...I was absolutely correct, it was making my breathing worse!!

I hope you start feeling better OP and your husband is correct to be making a complaint.

myheadsjustmush · 29/03/2026 13:58

Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery. What an awful rollercoaster you and your family have been on.

Ignore the people who don't believe you. I can only assume those people have never had the misfortune of dealing with the NHS in a situation like this where the issue isn't clear. I've been on multiple shit-show situations with the NHS and unfortunately it's very real that this happens. I hope you're getting answers now, and although unlikely, I hope you get an apology.

Applecup · 29/03/2026 13:54

Sending courage and please ignore the arseholes doubting your posts. Hope to get a more positive update from you.

Laurentizer · 29/03/2026 13:54

Oh christ that is really awful, and your poor DD, not acceptable. Yes, please make sure they get a complaint; there are so many really good hospitals and excellent hospital workers worth their salt will agree with us!. Take care x

RosesAndHellebores · 29/03/2026 13:54

@elm26 I was so sorry to read your update and hope ypu are feeling better soon and get clear communication from now. Good on your dh for complaining.

I hope you both advocatenfor some explanations whilst you are in hospital and I hope you get the oppprtunity to ask some clear whys at the next ward round. Don't hesitate to ask to speak to, indeed demand, the the consultant in charge of your care. Be as stroppy as you need to be because your are important and the squaky wheel.gets the most oil.

Talkingfrog · 29/03/2026 13:51

Glad you have now had some treatment, even if it took an emergency for you to be listened to. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Pleasd don't give the armchair detectives any of your energy, OP. They're just a bunch of bored housewives, nothing going for them, 0 education, and probably a shitty husband. They come on here to bring other people down to their own, miserable level, so they can feel better about themselves. They are not worth your head space.

(Nice choice of squash! My fav!)

I hope you get better soon, OP. I really do. I'm so glad your husband is putting a complaint into PALS, but I think compensation wouldn't be out of the question because of how bad this is.

Breadcat24 · 29/03/2026 13:50

I hope you get better soon how frightening for you

Captivatingcapybara · 29/03/2026 13:48

Please don't focus on the people who suggested you weren't a genuine poster, OP. They are just arseholes, as evidenced by their other comments. I really hope you're more comfortable and are being properly taken care of. Have you screenshotted your posts for your complaint, just in case the thread gets lost?

Wheresthebeach · 29/03/2026 13:48

Take care OP, I hope you get sensible answers soon. Don't let the troll hunters scare you off getting support here. I've had multiple surgeries and it's a painful road to recovery so don't be shy about posting.

No medical advice but just to say I hope they get to the bottom of it and you make a speedy recovery

Cantpee · 29/03/2026 13:36

Sorry I have seen you have had surgery. I had read all your updates but think it got lost in the rest of your post! I hope you get answers soon.

Cantpee · 29/03/2026 13:33

Have they definitely checked your kidneys to check your urine flow? I have another thread but I have damaged ureters from surgery that have caused a blockage. The pain before it was treated was excruciating, a dull ache in my kidney but also waves of intense cramping pain that made me vomit.

The short term treatment for me is a nephrostomy to relieve pressure on my ureter and kidney and divert the urine. I am in a fb group for nephrostomies and there are a lot of women there who have had issues with their ureters becoming blocked due to endo.

likelysuspect · 29/03/2026 13:27

Oh god more AI

She's in hospital, they'll be looking at all that, in fact most of it they did look at, and unfortunately missed whatever which meant that they needed to then operate.

So typical. Ive had the in and out of hospital thing, they discharge you and then the next minute you're right back there in agony. I was sent away from a GP with 'nothing to see here', later that night ambulance into hospital.

Wheresthebeach · 29/03/2026 13:25

Heath anxiety often goes hand in hand with pain/issues being ignored by doctors and women being dismissed.

CustardySergeant · 29/03/2026 13:24

Well, she's just had surgery, so I'm sure they know what the problem was now.

Laurentizer · 29/03/2026 13:13

I'm sorry I am new here I didn't mean to post the reply twice! I hope you get it sorted, and don't settle if you are not happy!
