What’s wrong with me, hospital clueless

Yesterday at 1pm, I put my 6 month old on the rug with his toys and went for a wee.

As I was walking back I had a sudden severe pain in my right side radiating into my lower back and up to my shoulder, I was in agony.

I called DH who was luckily only on a job 15 mins away, he came straight home and took one look at me and called ambulance, I was shouting out in pain they gave me gas and air and morphine.

I had an emergency CT when dye last night and also have a catheter as lost the ability to wee. Nothing showed on CT, they got me settled on morphine and today I’ve had a transvaginal scan which shows ovaries and womb look normal.

Gynae can’t find a reason so they’ve stopped painkillers and just giving me paracetamol but somethings wrong I feel like somebody’s twisting my insides. The gynae consultant was horrible and said the surgical team will come see me if they think it’s worth it?? So I’m waiting for that if they come.

I’m in so much pain and genuinely scared they’ll send me home not knowing what is wrong with me.

Has anyone has anything similar?

I sent WhatsApp to family, pictures etc. I have no memory of it but it's there on my phone .

Me too, just the other day!
I sent some WhatsApp messages after my surgery to the family chat (my son had asked for “proof of life”😂) but I didn’t remember doing it so I sent them some more/different photos when I was more with it, they all thought I was still 😵‍💫🤣

Have them check your appendix if you still have it. Requires blood work. I had something similar - couldn’t eat, couldn’t wee and my poo went chalky yellow. I lost my appetite. I slowly started to deteriorate until I could barely get to my feet. My appendix had burst and I had sepsis. Got turned away twice by gp. Nearly died.

I’m sorry to those that don’t believe me but it’s very real and very scary. This is my current view. I’ll stop posting now, I’ve had a chest xray, more bloods and pain relief. Thank you to all of those who’ve sent suggestions and kind messages/well wishes. You kind people who actually help and give advice are the reason I’ve been on Mumsnet for so many years. Hopefully I get full answers now and I can get better and home to my babies and DH. DH is writing a huge complaint to PALS. My DD was screaming as I was on the floor lips turning blue and choking on my own vomit just hours after they discharged me. That’s not okay and I hope anyone who reads this thread advocates for themselves better than I did yesterday when I let them discharge me.

just read your last few posts that sounds genuinely scary. The hospital needs to have answers over why they treated you so poorly.

don’t stop posting, your experience is what so many of us have faced (as per the experiences people have post) medical misogyny needs more awareness.

would love you to tell us what is wrong once you know, you never know it might help someone else in the future

Roomforapony · 29/03/2026 14:38

Ignore the negative posters who seem to lack reading comprehension skills.

I hope you get the answers you need @elm26, you have had an awful few days and your family must be so worried about you. Hopefully this is the start of your recovery ❤️‍🩹
Sending you gentle hugs 🫂 and positive thoughts that you’ll soon be home with your babies and DH.

So sorry for everything you have been through. Hopefully ward round will fill in the blanks.Flowers

SparklyBrickViper · 29/03/2026 14:34

Please, when you are recovered, complain.

I’ve been negotiating the NHS for three years with my mother. She’s been treated appalling and I’ve just tried to make the best of where we are.

It shouldn’t be like this. We shouldn’t need to advocate for ourselves or our families. Women’s pain shouldn’t be dismissed.

Please dont focus int he negative on here. If you've been around a while you know what it's like

Concentrate on finding out the cause, getting home and getting better.

If you are unwell and you know it, then you are, tests can only do so much. If nothing can be found it does not mean nothing is wrong. It means they have not found the issue. They are not looking for the right thing. Pain like this is not normal.
And clearly something is not right.
The question is what?

Exactly. Doctors are NOT gods, and if the patient 'knows' something is wrong, it's a foolish doctor who doesn't listen. My mother (also an RN) told me when I was first starting out in nursing (in paediatric ward) 'If the mother tells you something is wrong with her baby, you'd better believe that something is wrong--even if the baby looks fine to you.' She never forgot a paediatrician sending a baby home from the ER despite the mother telling the doc that something wasn't right. The baby died overnight.

You had surgery but you’re not sure what for? Under general anaesthetic?

Jesus she's had emergency surgery, will be off her face. As I was two weeks ago. I still couldn't tell you what happened that day or the following couple of days. Vaguely remember a cannula and drip. Taking drugs. There's a hole in my memory I still can't remember.

ScribblingPixie · 29/03/2026 14:21

All the very best to you, OP. I do hope this is the beginning of recovery for you now.

If she was unconscious and rushed to theatre then her recollection is going to be very hazy.

I'm appalled that you were sent home yesterday but not surprised.
