AIBU to be livid at kitchen fitter for pissing all over my bathroom like a bloody tomcat?

AIBU to be absolutely livid that my kitchen fitter pisses all over the toilet and the floor every time he uses the facilities. He must have a "sprinkle-cock" Fireman Sam would be proud of. And not only that, he flushes without putting down the lid of the toilet so aerosols of his piss float through the air coating the immediate area around the loo. Every time he goes in there my whole body tenses and I have to go in after him to mop up the worst of what's on the floor so it doesn't get traipsed through the house. I have carpet ! ! ! ! ! And I know I'll be scrubbing away as soon as he leaves this evening.

My BP is up and it's only day 2 ! Oh god I could swing for him!!!

We've had awful and excellent tradesmen working for us over the years. I think it comes down to their upbringing and the personal standards they've been allowed to develop.

But even so, even if they have come from a chaotic home, their training should have emphasised to them that their workplace will usually be someone else's home, and that, whatever their own backgound, they need to show respect for it.

I often wonder just what is involved in training some tradesmen - they do need to pass actual qualifications, don't they?? Surely there will have been a bit about professional conduct? Or am I the world's most naive homeowner???

Yeah, I wish women would learn how to speak directly and deal with confrontation. It's her home, her rules. I would ask him to use a public toilet going forward due to hygiene / cleanliness concerns. I won't let strange men use my bathroom precisely because I cannot stop them standing up to urinate and can't force them to put the lid down before flushing.

I think realistically this is the best way forward, moreso than a sign or telling them they must pee sitting down. I think it’s understandable women are funny about talking to strange men about whether they stand or sit peeing and even more so about policing it!

Sorry but growing up I seen some tradesmen be very aggressive to my (single) mother who was not afraid to confront them. And it’s not that I can’t speak up for myself, but it’s that I would rather than not have the unpleasant confrontations my mum had with them.

Unfortunately the type to be disrespectful in your bathroom are also often the type to be aggressive and unreasonable.

Put a note up above the loo saying :

Men : please sit to pee as this loo has an odd design and splashes all over the floor.

That allows him to save face - you're not calling him a dirty sod who can't pee straight, and saves your floor. Plus hopefully makes him think for future.

Or if you don't mind potential confrontation, tell him when he arrives that in your house men need to sit to pee as you don't have time to wash the floor every day.

Yuk ,I expect he lives alone!

DivorcedAndDelighted · 21/03/2026 20:33

Is it weird that I’m thinking about what the end of his penis must look like in order for the pee to come out in all directions? Probably.

Sensible point actually. Hypospadias is a fairly common congenital abnormality where the hole in the head of the penis isn't in the normal position. It can be formed on the underside of the head, or sometimes it's further down the shaft. Nowadays surgery would usually be offered when a baby, but if this hasn't happened, it really could make aiming harder.

"His hose obviously isn't long enough for him to aim properly" <-- I was told by a angry relative who had a workman in who pissed all over her toilet seat/ floor 😂

😆

Show him this video

Brilliant video! Even the most careful aimers are still spraying droplets. In an ideal world I'd have a urinal in the bathroom for the menfolk but most people don't. Sitting to pee like German men do is the only way, it shows respect.

Seriously if every man that uses your toilet cant aim I would say your toilet may be the issue… I get the odd sprinkle but not at the extreme you are saying by every man!!

Lucky you

my first thought was "did their mothers not teach them better or tell their fathers to teach them?" As I have said, never had a tradie who did it or a friend or guest. My favorite tradie was one who was here for weeks and always used the airfreshener spray after he had used the loo.

OMG women are even responsible for how men pee! Someone needs to read that book ‘Why Women are Blamed for Everything.

AdaDex · 21/03/2026 08:41

I think in future I'll just give them a fiver to go to the cafe down the street. They can buy a cuppa and use their toilets. This thread has inspired me to take back the power 😁

You shouldn't have to put up with this. As a grown man ,he should do the " shake" before starting to pee...that is like un- kinking a garden hose so there is some direction control. Often remaining tucked in our underwear for a few hours our appendages need straightening out before use ! Easily done by giving it a quick " dry shake".first before the flow starts. Don't know how you would be able to advise him about doing this though ?!

Well you learn summat new every day! Thanks Spiderx :)

Doggymummar · 21/03/2026 07:34

I've been married three times, had live in boyfriends brothers etc and can honestly say this has never happened. Who are these men?

PorridgeEater · 20/03/2026 23:51

Can you leave a polite but firm message in the bathroom?

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 20/03/2026 23:08

What a dirty, disgusting get. I would take a picture of his piss pools and post them to his boss or company.

I would ask for another workmen to finish the job. And fie a discount.

I would not have him in my house.

Blueyrocks · 20/03/2026 20:02

Even workmen are human. It's basic human decency to let the people who are in your house use your toilet. I loathe this attitude.

Fair enough, if they make a mess, tell them to sort it out, and if they don't, tell them to go elsewhere, but from the outset, please for god sake just treat the workmen the way you would anyone else who was in your house for the day.

That is a quite a privileged mindset to think everyone can risk letting them use it and just see how it goes.

What woman really wants th hassle of confronting a tradesman in her home and tell him to clean up his mess? Would you even trust him to do it properly since he’s clearly unhygienic if he’s left the bathroom in a state?

And if he doesn’t do it then you’re left with a mess to clear up.

There’s plenty of posters who have said they’re disabled and did you not consider they may struggle to clean up the mess afterwards which some have said they can’t do?

I don’t let tradesmen use my bathroom either. Thankfully there’s a communal one in the apartment building they can use, but if not they’d have to make their own arrangements like so many do anyway.

Not all tradesmen insist on asking to use their customers toilets.

Be angry at the many who behave poorly in people’s bathrooms thus making it to much of a risk for some of us to let them have access.

It's not a legal requirement. Is it also 'basic human decency' to be expected to clean up after them too as most of them probably wouldn't clean up if they behave like that?
A lot of them don't behave like humans judging by some mentioned by other PPs, so...they can go elsewhere.
Well, don't moan next time you're cleaning up after them.
There's a very big difference between guests and workmen btw.

Lovesacake · 20/03/2026 20:27

You should do what I did, I messaged DH moaning about the filthy builders leaving skiddies in the toilet but accidentally sent it to the head builder. It did the trick

Portakalkedi · 20/03/2026 20:26

Dirty bastard. Yes you must say something, even just that you don't have time to keep cleaning the floor after he's been, etc. How on earth can a grown man carry on like this (if it's not deliberate)?

Bertiebiscuit · 20/03/2026 20:06

MurkyMo · 20/03/2026 08:33

Is it a territorial thing?? Well this isn't his territory. I presume he's as bad at home. His poor wife.

Lock your bathroom, tell him to save it or use the garden. He's disgusting.

Edamcheese · 20/03/2026 20:05

I would cover the area in thick plastic. He will get the message when he sees this on the floor. No need for any words. But I’m afraid I’ve had disgusting tradesmen use my toilet they have a shit and don’t even wash their hands yuk.

Myskyscolour · 20/03/2026 20:05

MurkyMo · 20/03/2026 08:52

😩I can't. I can't deliberately embarrass people. Assuming he'd even be embarrassed. My electrician is the same but he's an absolute star so I wouldn't say anything to him. He only did it once anyway, he's so efficient he's in and out in a flash.

Just say something!
It happened to me once, I was 25 at most, moving to my first flat in the UK, so foreign country for me. One of the movers left a mess in the bathroom (and then left!), I went to see the guy who looked like the team leader, asked him to come see for himself and asked him to clean up! In my mind there was no way I was cleaning that myself! And I also queried why this guy came apparently just to use my bathroom.
