If you believe that, you truly are beyond help.

It would be useful to hear something more substantive against this proposition. Saying "boo! you're stupid" without countering the argument just looks like there is no good argument and that Garyeconomics is correct and you just don't like it

Yes, I had a look and you can see the tweet. Also it's been reported by other outlets.
I've yet to see a denial or a response from the Greens.

The account isn't active and so you cannot see the tweet.

Garydoeseconomics on Instagram has long advocated for taxing wealth not work, there is money there. Problem is the rich have the ear of powerful people in the government.

If you believe that, you truly are beyond help.

Some people are so obsessed with 'supporting the underdog', no matter the situation, that they cannot accept/admit the underdog ever does anything wrong.

It reminds me of the Swedish(?) woman who was raped by an immigrant but decided to blame a local man instead, because reporting the poor ickle immigrant would be mean and racist and unfair on him.

Good post. Totally agree. It makes me laugh the way Left-wing comedians like Stewart Lee think they are cool, edgy outsiders ‘fightin da system’ when they are the f-ing system. To be an edgy outsider today you’d need to be a patriotic conservative.

The other thing that sickens about the Left is the way they think they’re the ‘goodies’. If you are on the Left, then you are good by definition. In reality, they are every bit as vicious and hate-filled as the right. But because their hatred is directed towards white, middle-class Daily Mail readers, somehow it’s OK. It’s OK to demonise their national heroes, it’s OK to rob them of a tribal identity. When it was done to the Native Indians, that was colonialism, but when it’s done to British people, it’s enrichment.

I no longer live in a country with a shared history or shared culture. When I was young, I knew who I was. I don’t anymore. The Left have done all they can to fill us with shame and self-loathing. We have been systematically taught to hate ourselves. The Left have done what every abuser does. First, you break your victim’s self-esteem. You make them hate themselves. Once you have done that, they are putty in your hands. The Left have had to make us hate ourselves in order to make us accept mass immigration. If you hate your own country and are ashamed of its history and culture, then you don’t care if it is swept away and replaced with something new.

I’m not defending billionaires anymore than anyone else, but take a look at wealth taxes elsewhere. They haven’t raised money, they have reduced the tax take. It’s a fundamentally stupid thing to do.

We have four choices:

Increase taxes - we’re totally maxed out. We cannot do this.

Grow the economy - we’re shit this. We incentivise people to stay at home with benefits. We haven’t been installing a work ethic. People are lazy and unproductive. NIMBYs are hampering construction so companies cannot build factories and offices here so invest overseas. Labour have made it expensive and risky for companies to employ people.

Borrow - see my first point above. Totally and utterly maxed out. We’re ’in Hock to the bond markets’ enough, without going in any deeper. 10% of the budget immediately disappears in interest payments.

Cut spending - Labour tried this but their own lefty MPs thwarted them.

Labour is walking a tightrope, trying to take small steps to make things better because that’s all they can do. The country is stuffed. We’re not going to get better public services until we cut the sky high welfare bill and inject some growth into the economy and they’re trying to tiptoe in that direction but it takes time.

Modt billionaires have a range of citizenships and split their time over a range of locations. One less week in the year in the UK is often all it takes to flip their tax residency to another country, exceedingly easy for them to do. THATS why Polanski is a grade A idiot. There are no quick fixes or easy solutions. If they were they would have been taken already. Get wise!

I actually agree with a lot of what you've said.

We can't borrow more, you're quite correct.

Growing the economy would be great - but it's proving very difficult.

Cut spending - very difficult to do, particularly when you're talking about cutting benefits from people who are already on the breadline.

To me, that leaves Increase Taxes as the only lever we can pull. And as I've said - the very very rich are the only ones with any cash, so they are the ones who should pay.

And if the tax residency rules make that difficult - change the tax residency rules!

There HAS to be a way of getting more money out of Billionaire's bank accounts and into the Treasury. Just because it hasn't worked elsewhere does not mean we shouldn't try it here.

Well, let me put it like this:

  1. Public services in this country are completely f*cked.
  2. Clearly we need more cash to fix them. If it was a case of removing waste / reforming / finding savings, then ( to use the point you made ) surely any one of the Labour / Tory governments in the last 14 years would have done that. That would certainly have been more wildly popular than raising taxes, no? But they haven't, which means we need to raise taxes.
  3. If we need to raise more cash - who should we take it from? The poor? ( don't have any ) The middle earners? ( already squeezed ) or the Very Very Rich ( have more money that they could ever spend in a lifetime. )

Clearly we should be taking it from the Very Very Rich?

I don't understand why ordinary people are so quick to defend Billionaires on here. It's not as if they give a shit about us!

He doesn’t own it any more than his father did, and if his father did it would have been subject to IHT and it wasn’t.

Tell me something, if there was an easy way to raise buckets of cash that didn’t do staggering amounts of harm to the economy, why aren’t Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves doing it? It would be wildly popular, no? Could it possibly be that we are rinsing ‘the rich’ for as much as we possibly can, and trying to take any more from them would be economically stupid and cause real harm to the tax take?

Speaking as someone who works in the sector, Labour are doing h what they can and absolutely everything that comes from the Greens mouths with regards to tax is 100% bunkum, but as long as enough fools fall for it, that’s ok!

If the Green Party don't want to ally themselves with misogyny, antisemitism and intolerance, they really need to speak up and speak out.

The mainstream parties have been so committed to rubbishing Reform that they've, almost entirely, overlooked the Greens establishing themselves.
It beggars belief to me that the Greens have managed to get a valid foothold in UK politics.
It remains to be seen how Labour will approach this, ie how they challenge Green policy without contradicting themselves and all they've said about Reform. What a mess.

Agrumpyknitter · 04/03/2026 14:08

Firry · 04/03/2026 12:01

You could always vote tactically for mainstream party though. Reform and Greens are both as bad as each other. They’re both utterly abhorrent. Who in their right mind would vote for either of these disgusting options?

Edited

Greens are far less abhorrent in my view. They want to remove our dependence on Palantir for our NHS data that we’re sleepwalking into and want to tackle the structural issues that cause poverty in this country. I’m a labour supporter. The right wing media has everyone hating on labour, Lib Dem’s and Greens. Unsurprising really. The Daily mail is owned by an aristocrat who lives in another country who doesn’t want to pay his fair share of tax. We have more food banks in this country than we had in the 90s. The Tories failed this country.

The only reason those morons are in is they actively campaigned for the Muslim vote by (rightly or wrongly) smearing Reform as racist.

Whaaaaat? They “actively campaigned” to support the people who lived in their constituency? The bastards. That’s just not playing fair. Everyone knows you are only supposed to campaign on issues which affect primarily white, primarily older voters and make no effort to encourage other groups out to vote.

And running a negative campaign against their opponents, using their own words against them, that’s just not on. Wouldn’t catch Matt Goodwin doing that. Not a single negative ad by him. Not one.

Poor Matt, out on his apology tour, following the Trump playbook whining about election fraud and people cheating. How can people call him racist when he is stirring up nonsense about “sectarian voting”. It is any wonder he lost with all of that against him.

I used to regularly vote Green on a local level, for environmental reasons, and with the vague idea that they were well-meaning and couldn't fuck up bin collections too much.

Now they are fixated on Palestine and pronouns and seem far less interested in climate change and our wasteful lifestyles. It's genuinely alarming that they and Reform are gaining momentum and have MPs.

I just want a grown-up to vote for.

BoredZelda · 04/03/2026 13:46

She actually said “there is not a single identified victim”. This is confirmed by the UN special representative who led investigations into it. They did go on to conclude there are reasonable grounds to believe that conflict related sexual violence occurred in Israel, West Bank and Gaza. The team determined at least two of the allegations of sexual violence in kibbutz Be’eri (which were widely reported in the media) were unfounded.

She may, or may not, believe there was any sexual violence at all, but the quote she gave doesn’t make that clear. Anyone would be foolish to believe that not a single man involved in the conflict had committed sexual violence.

It is rather telling that the Daily Mail report contains its own inaccuracies. It says a bunch of people (including the UN) concluded there was ‘convincing evidence’. This is incorrect, the term the report used was ‘information’. The piece can provide no screenshot of her tweet that allegedly said “there is no Israeli woman who’s said she was raped by militants”, nor of the other tweet “revelations” they claim she made. Conveniently, the account no longer exists, so I guess we just have to take their word for it, eh?

If this woman, (or anyone else) holds views that are wholly abhorrent, she deserves to be held to account for that. Maybe look at several sources, and do some research to check first, before throwing her to the wolves based on one article that has only been repeated in various places with a similar attitude to the Green Party’s latest win.

Ah this old chestnut... you can't tax billionaires because they'll just leave.

A myth perpetrated by ( you guessed it ) Billionaires themselves.

The Duke of Westminster is worth over £10bn. He owns massive chunks of Mayfair and Belgravia.

Tell me how he's going to take that with him if he leaves the country?

He doesn’t own it any more than his father did, and if his father did it would have been subject to IHT and it wasn’t.

It’s always a low in any world, for any rape victim to not be believed.

Indeed. Many of us have said that throughout the thread. It seems terrible that this group of women are not believed by the spokesperson for the Green Party.
I hope sensible Greens speak out.

We should always believe rape victims whether Sudanese, Jewish or whatever.

It’s not quite accurate to say they bombed Gazan civilians as a collective punishment; it was a war with Hamas in an extremely densely populated area, that Hamas started and could have stopped at any time by agreeing to peace deals (such as returning hostages), which they repeatedly refused.

War is terrible, immoral and should be avoided at all costs, but this war wasn’t a genocide, nor any worse than other wars.

The commited war crimes by bombing a civailan population.

We had a prolonged comflict with the IRA - it wasn't suddenly okay to carpet bomb Belfast or just the catholtic districts till they gave up the terorists. Bloody Sunday was rightly condmned when unarmed civillans were shot - and justice has been elusive but at least sought.

Hamas is clearly a terorist organisation and is rightly sought and condemded by the world - but Israel bombed a civaillan population and seek to justify that with a seriously weak poistion - it's disgusting.
