I was upset and thought it best to step away, but instead I am going to listen to the sane voices on here, the decent people (also have my husband’s voice in my inner ear all the time, telling me not to let people mistreat me)

I wanted to shy away because this is what my mother made me do for decades, she made me feel stupid and small (which is ironic given I’m just shy of six feet)

So no, I won’t go. And I don’t need to start another thread because I haven’t said anything wrong on this one.

Maybe therapy is finally starting to take effect because I am starting to stand up for myself.

I wish those who act in bad faith would just stay away.

I have enough to deal with, coming to terms with my narcissistic mother (and no, I’m not throwing this term around lightly, I’m in therapy, and private therapy paid for by myself and my husband before anyone accuses me of being a foreigner who is a drain on resources)

Why is this place so toxic?

you wouldn’t allow attacks on Muslims to stand, so why is it ok if it’s Jewish people?

The situation is really complicated and I don't think you understand it, and it would be better for you to start a new thread showing support to Jewish people leaving the politics and trashing of other cultures out of it.

I am sure I speak for everyone when I say you would be 100 percent supported in simply showing support to Jewish people without the misunderstood politics and trashing of other cultures.

But, equally, given that the UN Commission have said that they believe it is, surely we can't say that it definitely ISN'T either.

Personally, if my government was pursuing actions that resulted in the UN deliberating whether it was a Genocide or not, I doubt I'd think that was a good place to be...

I like to be even-handed in this. I'm happy to call what Hamas did on October 7th, a terrorist attack, and what Israel has done in Gaza, a genocide.

I don't think it's semantics to say that there is no legal verdict yet on whether it is a genocide or not.

There is no doubt that what Hamas did on 7/10 was a terrorist attack, they are terrorists according to the UK government and they filmed their own attacks.

However there is doubt about whether Israel's response can legally be classified as genocide or not.

I don't know if you trust the BBC, but it's very obvious that women lack civil rights, and yes, their dress is policed.

I wasn't talking about this, firstly, I was responding to a poster who said no Muslims want to dress modestly or words to that effect. Secondly there is real life footage posted endlessly from Iran which show women without head scarves walking through streets and markets. I haven't read the article but if it says something different it is probably worth looking at more sources.

No not at all. If the other poster had said that there were women all over the world being forced to do things rather than choosing, then I would have agreed. But they didn't, they mocked the idea that anyone could choose to wear modest clothing. They were wrong. Also, my comments were based on real discussions with real Muslim women and real Jewish women, as well as watching footage and interviews and reading personal accounts. So not "luxury beliefs".

And if you watch videos of day to day life in Iran you will see that most women do not wear veils and many do not cover their hair. They are now in fear of being bombed, however.
