To think it’s ridiculous that an extra Bank Holiday has been announced in Scotland because they’ve qualified for the World Cup?

Just that really?

What if every country who qualifies decided to do this?

What about other sports?

Oh it's a big deal for Scotland let me assure you! You aren't Scottish and you don't live here, so you will have no clue how big a deal this is

Remember “we’re on the March wae Ali’s army”? Probably better not tbh 🤐🤣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The more you try to convince us that it's ridiculous, a joke or pathetic, the more out of touch you seem.

That’s really not the case.

The more you try and imply this is in any way important, the more out of touch you really are.

Every 4th country has qualified - it’s no big deal.

Oh my days! What kind of paranoia is that!

it’s not the country that is the issue - it’s the principle of doing something with such far reaching implications for such a spurious reason.

Why do you care if you don't live in Scotland though? 😂 That's like being annoyed France could grant a public holiday.

“Scunnered” 🤣❤️

One of the best words, coming second to “glaikit”.

All these miserable people crying over a country having a day off 😂

Didn't you all vote for Brexit in order to ‘take are country back?’ Yet when one of the nations use their power to do something joyful like an extra holiday you are all fair scunnered by it

“Scunnered” 🤣❤️

notantordec · 10/06/2026 14:37

Imagine getting this work up about a bank holiday in Scotland. I live in Edinburgh and I don’t get it off. Am I crying nope?

ElvirRamcic · 10/06/2026 14:37

“What if every country who qualified did this?”

Er, 48 countries would have an extra public holiday.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 10/06/2026 14:36

Don’t you have more pressing matters to concern yourself with OP? In what way does this impact you?

I think it is typical SNP nonsense, pandering to the saltire painted faces lowest common denominator.

I hope the Scottish Government also provide additional investment for domestic abuse support. Alcohol fueled abuse of women increases significantly when Scotland lose - as they will.

Not just Scotland, England too.

TheGoddessAthena · 10/06/2026 14:04

Our GP is closed. Just as they are for every single holiday, local holiday, first Monday of the Glasgow fair….

curlycat · 10/06/2026 14:01

OhDear111 · 13/02/2026 17:17

Great idea. Stop the operations in hospitals. Why not give the police the day off whilst you are at it? It’s ridiculous. It’s interesting what counts as success in Scotland!

I'm NHS. Nothing is getting cancelled. We get a day added to our annual leave entitlement to use whenever. Everything still has to be covered! Just like every other Public Holiday every year!

pinkponie · 10/06/2026 13:40

Jealous much?

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/06/2026 13:34

Why does the heck does anyone care? Some organisations in Scotland are giving the bank holiday. Many are not. It’s a choice. My organisation has granted it. I’m not a football fan but I’m bloomin well taking the day, lol. If England or wherever else wants one for a special reason, crack on, we don’t all get the same bank holidays anyway. If it’s any consolation Scotland will be out of the WC pretty much right away, as our team are pure shite whether we like to admit it or not.. lol

hulahooper2 · 10/06/2026 13:29

is it impacting your life in any way ?

Butterflyfluff · 13/02/2026 19:20

FFS - it’s fucking football!

So you don't like football and don't live in Scotland. I can see why your so upset about it

Keepoffmyartichokes · 10/06/2026 12:20

I work for an English bank that has a high number of employees in Scotland, they are not getting Monday off but I would be all for it if they did. It's great they have qualified and I can see why they are excited. They have a shit kick off time on Sunday morning as well. It's not a last minute bank holiday, it was confirmed by the King back in February. I would rather this that a BH for the funeral of someone I have never met.

Differentforgirls · 10/06/2026 12:19

tilypu · 10/06/2026 12:05

People that work for the UK government in Scotland aren't getting it. Only those that work for the Scottish government.

That's awful.

Greenwitchart · 10/06/2026 12:10

God forbid that anyone could have fun and enjoy a day off....

Seriously OP why do you need to so negative about it?

Well done Scotland!

The laugh of it is, that only government workers and NHS staff are getting the day off up here, and some local councils have opted out of it altogether, so staff are working as usual. I think it's ridiculous to give a country the day off for football, personally. Some pubs in Edinburgh will stay open until 4.30am(!) which will make Saturday night horribly rowdy and trains a nightmare, even more filled with idiotic drunk people than normal. Not to mention the stragglers making their way home on Sunday morning.

I suspect lots of pubs everywhere are open until 4 this weekend. I live in a wee town and am going out to watch the game in the local pub.

hospitality industry is really struggling - I dont blame them for wanting to make some money.

Don't agree with this at all.

Edinburgh pubs and clubs are routinely open until 5am during the Festival. They used to open until that time year-round pre the relaxation of licensing laws, which ironically led to reduced opening hours at the insistence of the Police because they did not want pubs and clubs both emptying at the same point. It also used to be common for pubs to open at 5am, some still do open at 6am, and yet despite the reduction in hours the town is rowdier now than it ever was back in the 90s, and folk are perfectly capable of behaving themselves in August despite being able to drink 24/7

Most pubs staying open later than their usual hours are running ticketed events with curfews on entry, so people are not going to be out on the streets being rowdy, they'll be in the pub watching football.

Most people are perfectly capable of behaving responsibly, even when alcohol is being served into the wee hours.

itsallgoodfunreally · 10/06/2026 10:27

Am just gutted not to be Scottish 🤣, though hope they recognize the Women's qualification in the same way!!

Haggis0381 · 10/06/2026 10:14

Emori · 13/02/2026 16:27

Better than them all turning up to work hungover or pished, especially the train drivers/bus drivers/nuclear submarine inspectors etc.

The match is at 2am Sunday. If people are turning up to work pissed on Monday, they have real problems.
