I’m not rich by any standards but yes, luckily I don’t ever actually think about the cost of using the oven. We have a range and often have both ovens on.

also I’m not cooking just one, it would be 4 or 5 as it would be for dinner generally.

I also cook a jacket potato for around 90 mins in the oven - and yes, sometimes it's the only thing in the oven. I'm not rich either, and any time I have cooked a jacket potato there is no difference in my electricity bill. I never understand these posts about how much it costs to run an oven?

They could partially cook the spud at home so it only has to be warmed up surely?
Is it a giant spud or low wattage microwave as that’s quite a long time

I don’t have a microwave at home any more but I used to always think they were for things that took a few mins. I go to SW and people talk about frozen meals that take about 20 mins and turnips that take an hour! wtf!

Anyway OP not BU that’s pretty rude when other people might be wanting to use it to heat a tin of soup or something

It certainly does take more than 5, even a frozen pre-cooked potato takes 5 minutes, 4 if thawed. Very unreasonable for them to use the microwave for so long though, would be simple enough for them to get frozen potatoes or cook them beforehand.

Yes most offices I have worked from, the kitchen is always a little room at the end of the floor plate/office, and each floor plate/office has it's own kitchen.

92p per potato strikes me as a bargain when you consider the number of potatoes that I used to throw away because they had gone bad/sprouted before I had a chance to eat them. I always keep a box in my freezer.

I actually think taking a jacket potato to eat for lunch at work is beyond weird - what is wrong with a sandwich, a wrap, soup, or a boxed salad? But whatever.

This would cause a riot at my workplace. I'm a teaching assistant and we have a 30 mins timetabled lunch break along with 30 mins timetabled playground duty. We also have the School Mafia who watch carefully to see who takes an extra 2 minutes for lunch, then bitch about them.

Someone hogging the microwave for 15 mins would be lynched for sure.

I’m with you on this, I cook mine for well over an hour. Or did, we’re temporarily in a rental house with shocking insulation and our bills are huge! I have begrudgingly given in to an air fryer to cut oven use, I still don’t like it much and can’t wait to get back to a proper oven. However I will admit it does good jacket potatoes, I cut them in half too for maximum crunchy area ! A microwave potato is indeed a sad thing .

I said my office! We don't have a canteen, we have a floor that can have up to 100 people but usually less, and the kitchen is down one end so yes we can see it. Crikey, the anger on this thread about a microwave 😂
