Irritated by my sister in law since she started Wegovy?

Since going on it she has become utterly smug!!

Every meal is a lecture about portions, willpower and how easy it is if you just decide to be disciplined. She brings it up constantly and watches everyone else eat with a tiny smile. She posts mirror selfies and captions about finally respecting her body. If anyone mentions side effects or cost she waves it away and says excuses are a mindset.

The thing is I am genuinely pleased she feels healthier. I really am. I just cannot cope with the sanctimony. Family dinners are exhausting and I dread comments about my plate. When I gently asked her to stop she said I should be inspired not threatened. I'm not overweight and have never struggled with my weight.

AIBU to think this is insufferable and want some boundaries or should I just swallow it and nod along? I really want to tell her this can't continue and she needs to calm down and stop with the horrid attitude.

That's interesting. It's only been three months for her so early days. Honestly I think she is just on a high because the weight is falling off with little effort from her. Not sure how she'll adapt when she goes off the drugs and the appetite comes back. I've heard that can be a really intense adjustment.

Boom.

Showed your hand, like you really care about how she’ll adapt, just sprouting the nonsense that slim people use against WLI.
I wonder how you’d adapt if you even needed steroids or become immobile and very fat, from a fellow skinny, no jealousy here.

Loloblue · 11/01/2026 18:42

Sounds insufferable and also, when she comes off it let's see how the willpower is going? Utter horseshit.

LadyKenya · 11/01/2026 18:41

YourRealTurtle · 11/01/2026 18:35

I think this is it. She got heavier for a lot of emotional reasons and I don't think she's addressed those so now it's coming out in a different way. All the talk of control and discipline and willpower is not really about the food.

Tbf if you know this, then why are you not being more understanding of why she is behaving the way that she is. It may be annoying you, but unless her underlying problems that you know that she has are dealt with, then how can she get past them? Has anyone suggested counselling. That would be kinder, and more useful. than eventually blowing up at her.

That is a horrible thing to even suggest. I would bet money OP is thinking exactly on these lines. I think I’m one of the few slim people who isn’t jealous and rude about users of weight loss injections.
I think this thread is BS anyway.
Another made up WLI thread.
^OP shouldn’t be monitored she’s already disciplined blah blah blah^

Why? She’s being an idiot even after being asked to stop. It’s not hard to not comment on other people’s food.

I am on WLI and feel nothing about other people’s food choices and certainly not enough to comment and be sanctimonious about it.

gamerchick · 11/01/2026 18:40

You've done the gentle approach. Tell her, nobody is interested and to stop looking at your plate. That it's turned her into an obsessive bore.

You might get a bit of peace for a few months.

I’ve been on WLI for 18 months. When I started I was in all the groups and it was literally all I could talk about at home; I think I was probably insufferable. I’m sure it’s replacing the food noise/obsession with something else. However, I was wise enough to know that the will power was only coming from the jabs!

You could go ‘full cunt’ and say ‘mate - I’m not the one using medication to eat normally - I don’t think you’re in a position to judge anyone’s eating’ and finish your pudding with relish.

Well, she had an eating disorder before and she has an eating disorder now, it's just adapted to the new context.

I wouldn't say anything, it'll only backfire on you. Sometimes it's best to just smile and nod.

This sounds very odd.

Why would someone on weight loss drugs be lecturing others?

I think (for her) weight gain and weight loss are psychological. She was an emotional eater and I think she has some issues to work through. She isn't eating much but I think those things are still there. All the talk of discipline and willpower feels like things maybe she reflected on when she was heavier. It's odd but I can see why she is acting the way she is because she never addressed these issues.

Have a chat, tell her it is annoying.
How often are you having a meal together?
Who is warning her of the side effects? If it is you, then stop doing that.
Her pharmacist or Doctor would have already advised her on the risk.
Let her have her moment, enjoying her new found confidence, I’ve never put on weight easy so I have never experienced being overweight. I’d imagine it is exciting for her. Have a word but let go of the aggravation, block or hide her SM posts.

Merryoldgoat · 11/01/2026 18:28

Why are you being gentle?

’Julie - you sound so sanctimonious and I don’t need your commentary on my dinner’

or ‘Fuck off’

I say this as a Mounjaro user who has never commented once on anyone else’s food choices (except to admire what they are eating).

This!

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 11/01/2026 18:31

Urggg my sister is on it and I snapped at her over Christmas dinner when she suggested I try it. I’ve just had my third baby and to be honest I’m actually doing much better than I expected but when she said it I really lost my temper. My dad diffused the situation and basically told her off (which I can’t lie felt kind of good, very childish I know).

Honestly if you’ve tried being nice sometimes it’s okay to just tell someone to shut up.

outerspacepotato · 11/01/2026 18:31

Bettybuttinski, you can't control what others put in their mouths and I am sick to hell of you trying. I've had it. One more word and you are going to be eating alone. You're beyond rude.

2thumbs · 11/01/2026 18:29

I’d be going out of my way to stuff my face in front of her

I agree. Complete obsession about food (whether under or over eating) is really not healthy.

HoseGoblin · 11/01/2026 18:28

I think I'd faux-innocently ask her if it's all about discipline and willpower why does she need the jabs? Surely if she's so disciplined and respectful of her body she shouldn't need medical intervention to stop shoving food in her gob?

(I say this as a certified fatty who wears size Walmart and has zero interest in dieting, I just like annoying sanctimonious former fatties)

cheeseonsofa · 11/01/2026 18:27

She still has disordered eating.
Its the food equivalent of being a dry drunk

Firmly ignore her and if she mentions your eating habits tell her to stop
Failing that grey rock and LC

DecafSoyaLatteExtraShotPlease · 11/01/2026 18:26

I'd be calling her out on it at the next family meal. "Jenny, ive tried having a quiet word, but will you please stop. Your comments and judgement about other people's food choices are becoming insufferable and quite frankly, we're all sick of it"
Then help yourself to a second serving of dessert whilst everyone else gives you a standing ovation for saying what they've all been thinking

Summerhillsquare · 11/01/2026 18:25

Popadomorbread · 11/01/2026 18:25

Just tell her you don’t have to be disciplined like her as you’ve never had a weight problem like she has. Thanks.

Saying this as a very fat person by the way. She’s a twat.

Samanabanana · 11/01/2026 18:25
