Labour Voters. Honest question

Tryingtodobetter82 · 29/12/2025 23:46

I’m not looking to start an argument on this subject. I know it’s a very heated and emotive topic.

I have strong views on political issues. What with algorithms and biased news organisations, it’s very easy to end up only seeing information that confirms what we already believe. Because of that, you don’t often hear the other side of the political divide.

I’m honestly curious whether those who voted Labour at the last General Election, for reference I did not, would vote the same way if there were an early GE in January, purely hypothetical of course.

If so, I’d really appreciate you sharing what you feel they’ve done right so far in their term. I’m asking as I genuinely want to understand different perspectives.

YABU - I would vote labour again
YANBU - I wouldn’t vote for them again (or ever have)

Pardon?

This is the most ridiculous post I have read this year.
The level of cognitive dissonance showed by Tories is staggering
I am no fan of Labour but to claim that Labour never takes responsibility for anything after the last shitshow of a govt is quite extraordinary!

Who is a Tory?

BIossomtoes · 30/12/2025 18:48

You’ve provided two links on your most obscure points. One of which is to a local council website. Where are the rest?

Sure, which points would you like clarification on?

BIossomtoes · 30/12/2025 18:48

CainsArm · 30/12/2025 18:44

care to elaborate? I’ve attached links, including from Labour itself.

That graph is entirely relevant in the face of the continual lies about Labour governments and the economy. I realise you find it highly inconvenient.

You’ll need to update to current Labour at some point, I realise you’ll find that highly inconvenient. So do they.

CainsArm · 30/12/2025 18:44

BIossomtoes · 30/12/2025 18:36

It’s about as accurate as their first post.

More relevant than that chart on every thread.

Sorry, you’re right. It wasn’t the 1990s. The later 1990s were just the years of Blair’s war on Iraq. Silly me.

In 1997 the Tories left Blair a golden legacy. Which he and Brown squandered, and then left us in the 2000s with colossal debt. Including continuing PFI debt, which of course Labour now forgets about.

@DenizenOfAisleOfShameyou got that Brown nonsense posted again lucky you ;

Um, the war on Iraq was 2003.

Your memory is appalling !

Thank you! I’d forgotten how recently Labour was disgraceful.

EasternStandard · 30/12/2025 17:49

Do you think only interns dislike Labour?

I think if anyone were interested in a discussion - the OP starts by claiming this is an 'honest question' - then they would engage with their own thread.

When people claim we have “Open borders” as above, because there aren’t men (presumably with guns) / fences / razor wire / minefields along every beach and clifftop within dinghy distance of France, what do you really mean ?

The border IS closed - essentially you can either enter the country for leisure or work with the appropriate documentation, or you can enter without the appropriate documentation and claim asylum.

If you enter without appropriate docs and do not claim asylum you’re sent back.

If you do claim asylum, you have the right to have your case heard.

This is absolutely not “open borders” - that would mean no document requirements or checking at all, like an internal Schengen border.

Who knows? Crazy aren’t they.

There's a range of stuff I care about. While MN is social media, it's 100% anonymous, and this is an actual thread about who, how and why we vote. So it seems logical to write about why.

But if you can only see virtue signalling in wanting to live in a civilised society, I'd posit you're already voting Tory and therefore not in a position to criticise.

It’s textbook virtue signalling, just look up. Your post is a perfect illustration.
Saying things like not voting for Labour is not voting to live in a civilised society is quite a laughable statement, to remind you that this is a party that has introduced a tax on children’s education, continuously pushes to police free speech whilst the prime minster crowes about welcoming a jihadist who had threatened the majority of UK citizen’s safety.

in my area they are all expensive - south east. It’s all well and good saying find another nursery but I’m actually at what is known as the cheapest one around so do a 45 round trip which is already a huge petrol cost. There are 2 in my village - one is term time only which doesn’t fit with my work and the other is over £100 per day plus a ‘forest school surcharge’

ok, there is one cheaper but they employed a peadophile who just got sent to prison for 10 years so I think that’s why they are slightly cheaper

I didn’t say get a cheaper one, I was just saying it’s still a huge benefit for so many working parents. Despite it unfortunately not being as beneficial for you, it doesn’t make it a failure.

ETA - also I live in Brighton so it’s not exactly cheap.

I don’t have time to get you details for all the answers, but all readily available to search for.
The headlines:
-Unemployment up 20%
-Monthly redundancy averages up 32%
-You were right on the independent schools,
-If there’s no open border policies, how can people traverse our borders without paperwork?
-Blasphemy laws: https://www.newstatesman.com/thestaggers/2024/11/there-is-no-place-for-blasphemy-laws-in-the-labour-party
-Decolonise the curriculum (straight from Labour); https://www.lewishamlabour.com/decolonising-the-curriculum/
-As for your crass comment about committing suicide before Labours generational farm
raid, did you expect them to wait until after? I think you’ve shown the true face of hardcore Labour supporters with that comment.

Not a word salad, unfortunately for everyone in the U.K.

Do you not care about the people who are put out of work - how many?
the closed businesses - how many?
the farmers who committed suicide over the IHT - which hasn’t yet happened
the increase in rents - market forces
the closure of 270 independent schools - 60
the custodial sentences for Facebook posts - Connolly pleaded guilty
the low GDP growth - like the rest of the world
the people who can’t find jobs - why can’t they?
the tax increases squeezing families - there have been no tax rises affecting individuals
the fiscal drag until 2031 - would you have preferred tax rises?
the open borders policies - don’t exist
blasphemy laws - what blasphemy laws?
the decolonisation of state school policies - what does that even mean?

Words salad.

Decolonising the Curriculum - Lewisham Labour Party

One of the most significant educational problems relating to gaps in the curriculum is the lack of representation of black and minority ethnic groups, and their histories and achievements within the UK. This is commonly referred to as the colonisation...

In what sense was the country “bankrupt” in the 1990s ?

That’s on your nursery - we are heaps better off than with our first who we payed full price for. We paid £900 per month for 3 days for DD1 and pay £500 per month for 4 days for DD2.

And while we’re at it can we stop calling it ‘30 free hours’ it’s not 30 free hours… 30 hours per week over 38 weeks meaning for the vast majority it’s at best 22 or in mg case we can only use 6 a day so if you work 4 days a week it’s 24 for 38 weeks spread over 52 which I think is 18 or so…. On those 18 hours I have to pay a ‘surcharge’ and then they’ve jacked the price up on the other hours so I am literally no better off at all.

@Tryingtodobetter82 , the mess the country is in is due to the successive Conservative governments. Cameron did so much damage. If you disagree with Brexit, he's the person to blame.
