To think that Kier Starmer shouldn't be welcoming extremists into Britain?

Twiglets1 · 27/12/2025 20:14

Reported in The Telegraph today that Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed an alleged Islamist extremist, who labelled British people “dogs and monkeys” and called for Zionists to be killed, into the UK.

The Prime Minister said he was “delighted” that Alaa Abd el-Fattah had arrived from Egypt on Friday evening after a travel ban imposed by Cairo was lifted following lobbying by ministers.

Mr Abd el-Fattah, an activist with dual British-Egyptian citizenship, previously said that it was heroic to kill Zionists “including civilians”. He urged Londoners to burn Downing Street, told his supporters to kill police and said he hated white people.

Ministers are facing calls to revoke his British citizenship, which he was granted in 2021 while imprisoned in Egypt, where campaigners described him as a “prisoner of conscience”.

Sir Keir’s tweet yesterday said how “delighted” he was that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in this country. Does that seem a reasonable stance to take for someone who has claimed at the same time to be committed to "eradicating antisemitism in the UK"?

This man given citizenship because his mother born here, he was not... the poster i replied too said this was tenuous.

Badenoch given citizenship purely because her mother came here to give birth, no other reason, then flew home to continue her life in Africa and beyond.

I think both reasons are weak & your point is stupid

I’m not sure what you are driving at here.

You don’t want to distinguish between would be immigrants based on potential risks they pose to current citizens, but rather to rely on some sort of racial/blood citizenship? That doesn’t seem consistent with your posting history. I don’t think you are actually like that.

Starmer need to make a statement about it. Distance himself from the whole sorry mess and preferably strip this man of his British citizenship - embarrassing as that will be after publicising his initial pleasure in his arrival.

We are used to his U turns.

He is “sorry” and the the guardian acknowledges that” In some of the tweets he describes the killing of Zionists as heroic, adding “we need to kill more of them”. He also once described British people as dogs and monkeys.”

so he hates us and our country.

Here are some words from Kier Starmer himself taken from his government foreword on Antisemitism after the Heaton Park attack.

Yet I am struck by what the Jewish community have said to me so many times in these recent months. Time and again I heard this sense that antisemitism has become normalised – from our schools and universities to workplaces and even the NHS. I heard how people felt they had to hide their Jewish identity in modern Britain, and that the attack was a shock but not a surprise.

Here is how he finished it.

We know extremism drives antisemitism. Tackling this remains an operational priority for our security and intelligence services, and we are committed to ensuring they are equipped to confront this evolving challenge.
This is a test of who we are as a country: our commitment to fairness, to one another, and to the values that bind us together.
We must all rise to that test.
If what we do does not work for the Jewish community, then it does not work at all.

I would hope that our Prime Minister reread his statement and consider how the Jewish community must be feeling considering their history.

he’s not the person who set the ball rolling and is again getting the backlash.

He's the sodding Prime Minister!

Plus he tweeted it was his top priority. That included calling on the Egyptian president to make sure the man could be released to the U.K.

I feel like he has lost the plot over this.

I voted Labour and have defended Kier Starmer many times, while having to agree that he lacks charisma etc. But this? This is unforgivable.

Although you still can’t spell his name. I don’t agree with his comments but he’s not the person who set the ball rolling and is again getting the backlash. Badenoch is such a hypocrite.

I've only come to this thread recently so haven't seen all the points people have made. The accusation was around Starmer welcoming people into the UK when it seems this man's release was campaigned for for a number of years by this and previous government. Including him being given UK citizenship while Jenrick was in the cabinet.

Several things can be true at once. The man's views are reprehensible and his release certainly shouldn't have been welcomed; the situation is being used cynically by some who previously were involved in a government that gave him UK citizenship as a stick to beat Starmer with; there's a high degree of worrying incompetence behind the scenes if the tweets weren't known about when Starmer announced the man's arrival. (It seems inconceivable that Starmer would have been so welcoming had he known about the anti-semtic tweets).

But Starmer is Prime Minister and Labour are in power now. Either Starmer and his cabinet didn't do their due diligence (which reflects very badly on him) or for whatever reason he/they are not opposed to this man coming to the UK. But the point is that Labour are in power (with a huge majority) and could ban this person from entering (if they really wanted to - the Government makes the laws after all and we saw from Covid that emergency laws can be brought in to deal with extreme situations where the safety of the public is paramount). Sure the Tories were wrong to give him citizenship but the whattaboutery is annoying. Nobody is to blame for this terrifying debacle except for Starmer and Labour and it's mind-blowing that people like this are being welcomed into the country and potentially putting the public at risk.

The loophole to citizenship used by Kemi Badenoch was closed over forty years ago.

The Linehan tweets in question were made in April 2025 when he was a UK resident.

I don't think he was, he was resident in the us

Can you tell the difference between them? Thats like saying we give LR to millionaires and people who end up jobless in social housing but we have to pretend we can’t tell the difference between those two groups. That is stupid.

The point is the UK had some control over deciding whether on balance you would be a pain in the arse or not. The way he can claim citizenship is not the issue. The point is we have remove our ability to discriminate. we also went out of our way to provide this scum consular assistance.

HappyFace2025 · 29/12/2025 09:53

Bringemout · 29/12/2025 09:45

Oh yes he will, he just needs to claim he will be tortured by the Egyptians and will be apolitical prisoner.

That's possible of course.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 29/12/2025 09:49

TheKeatingFive · 29/12/2025 09:41

Well they arrested Graham Linehan for tweets made outside the UK, him not being a UK citizen, and those tweets were much more benign than these. So the only difference is time really.

The Linehan tweets in question were made in April 2025 when he was a UK resident.

I have never quite known a time like it, when a percentage of the population are ao deep into their suicidal empathy that they're happy for someone like this to be welcomed to the UK. He shouldn't step foot in this country. He hates us

Indeed, the number of people (extremists), in our country that hate 'us' (non extremists) is growing all the time. They number on counter terrorism watchlist is growing. The point will come....

Yet, many continue to wave them.in....fools

Kemi Badenoch isn’t threatening jews, police officer, the prime ministers residence. Someone translated arabic tweets where he encouraged people to attack the wives and children of police officers. He truly is scum we didn’t need. We had no obligation to take him whatsoever. We actually volunteered for this shitshow.

There was a good character test thats been removed. We need it back. Your point was stupid. My DD was born abroad, there were a bunch of requirements to be fulfilled. Happily for her both of us are British, I have cousins that are British by descent, they cannot pass their citizenship onto their own children. This guy had literally no connection to the Uk other than that his mother was born here. We had no obligation.

Edited

Agree. The good character test going relates to a ruling by the ECHR. We need to decide how much control we want over that kind of thing.

This really exposes some incredible trends and systems related to SM and how much should be checked, court sovereignty, educated people getting celebs onside. Celebs impacting politicians and even the asylum system as @NotDavidTennantmakes a good point.

The public can just see the ridiculous outcome and hypocrisy and take it from there.

Bringemout · 29/12/2025 09:42

Again this will be the case for a lot of people, many of us are mobile and have lived abroad, had families abroad. It doesn’t therefore mean we have to give citizenship to just anyone. I’m struggling to see what you are not understanding here.

But he won't get asylum here. I do agree it's going to be difficult to get rid of him through his citizenship but if the government has any balls at all it has to aim to do so. If he gets jailed prepare for him to go on hunger strike as he did in Egypt, and his mother did here.

Now he's on British soil it will be difficult to get rid of him.

Even if they find grounds to strip his citizenship there's nothing to stop him from claiming asylum here.

There's a lot to prevent it from being granted.

I've just googled the issue of stripping British citizenship and found this article from the Runneymede Trust published in 2025:

Under current laws, the Home Secretary may strip citizenship if they determine that to do so would be “conducive to the public good”. This is a concentrated executive power, taken based on secret evidence that the person stripped may never be able to see or challenge.

Any Brit with dual nationality could be stripped. Naturalised Brits may also be stripped if the Home Secretary has “reasonable grounds for believing” they may be able to claim a second nationality, whether or not they have actually done so. In practice, these powers have been used against people with a tenuous or non-existent claim to another nationality, leaving them effectively stateless.

https://www.runnymedetrust.org/publications/stripped-the-citizenship-divide#:~:text=Under%20current%20laws%2C%20the%20Home,dual%20nationality%20could%20be%20stripped.
