To not be worried about pregnancy at 38

Being as I’m we’ll pass age of normal age of conception

OP posts:

Ha good luck and assume nothing. Took 2 years for me to conceive at 30, was on IVF pathway. I got a UTI and 3 sets of antibiotics and in my wisdom at the age of 41 didn't think how they would affect the pill and now 22 weeks pregnant. Was certain I was also hitting menopause. My maternal line all were through menopause by 43

SparkyBlue · 26/12/2025 21:38

This post can’t be genuine

I think I read you can stop contraception at 55 as you aren’t then considered able to conceive (if you haven’t had your year of no periods by then)

Anyone confirm I’m not talking rubbish?

Yes that is correct

Really? Im 41 and expecting to be in peri soon

I had my 2nd baby at 42 so maybe I'm biased! My menopause started at 52 so again biased

She's not close to the menopause at 38!

Everyone's fertility is their own but my surprise sibling arrived when my mum was 44 so I wouldn't consider you out of the woods yet.

AngryBird6122 · 26/12/2025 20:59

I think you are too old. Others will think it's fine. It's your opinion that matters

Orangetoecat · 26/12/2025 20:40

GeishaTrumpet · 26/12/2025 19:20

I had a “surprise” pregnancy at 38, she’s now almost three and a little treasure 💕

Snap! My "surprise" (at the ripe old age of 38) turned 3 recently and she was born a few weeks before my 39th 😂

I am I’m pretty sure if I posted I was going to get pregnant at 38 on here,I would be told I’m too old.

Clearly you are not a regular poster or you'd know that threads about having children at that age are started about twice a day and you certainly wouldn't be told that

Also where do you live that this would be the slightest bit unusual?

Alltheusefulitems · 26/12/2025 20:34

At 47 I thought I was ok!! I had a termination earlier this year

stichguru · 26/12/2025 20:33

If you're ready for another kid - good for you. If not, think hard about what you are actually saying. You are definately young enough to conceive!

LoveSandbanks · 26/12/2025 20:32

I have three children conceived at 33, 36 and 39. The one I conceived at 39 was the quickest conception. As soon as the coil was removed I was pregnant. It is recommended to continue contraception until 55 unless you’ve had no period for 12 months (2 years if under 50)

Having a baby at 40 is no longer unusual.

gogomomo2 · 26/12/2025 20:15

My gp practice nurse is pushing for me to have my mirina replaced and I’m 52. She had had a 55 conceive naturally (and carry a healthy pregnancy)

Surely that’s rare?

cestlavielife · 26/12/2025 20:30

Did you mean 48?
38 is nothing

Labamba78 · 26/12/2025 20:28

I work in HR and a huge majority of mothers going on mat leave are late thirties and early forties. Be careful!

Cheese55 · 26/12/2025 20:28

Only2daystogo · 26/12/2025 20:26

The closer you get to menopause the more eggs your body releases - greater risk of multiple pregnancy.

Oh FFS grow up. As long as a woman ovulates and has sex she can get pregnant.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 26/12/2025 20:25

I had my first child at 37 and got pregnant after dtd ONCE at 38. While taking the mini pill and breast feeding.

I then got oregnant again after dtd once (albeit unprotected) at 40. So yabvu.

Rushedabit · 26/12/2025 20:25

Surely OP is joking?

TheIceBear · 26/12/2025 20:24

fgs it’s a completely normal age to have a baby. I just had one at 38. My mum had me at almost 39. Honestly I sometimes think the people in these posts are living in a complete bubble. I had my first at 33 and I’m one of the younger parents at the school gates with him.

Yes, at least I think 55 is the cut off hospitals use (otherwise they do a pregnancy test before certain procedures).
However, it’s not impossible to have a natural conception after that, just vanishingly unlikely.

Have you been on the sherry?

Midnights68 · 26/12/2025 20:22

I absolutely don’t think you’d be told you’re too old to be planning a pregnancy at 38 on here.

A pregnant 38 year old wouldn’t get so much as a raised eyebrow in the area where I live.

awrbc81 · 26/12/2025 20:17

Erm my friend just gave birth to an unplanned baby at 42 so….
