My sister is the same age as you when her child is in yr 1. My son is in year 10 and I'm 33, it varies and I've usually been the youngest mum, most are a good 10 years older or more than me, so your definitely not in a minority 😌

Flumpsareyummy · 13/12/2025 18:33

Imagine going through the menopause with teenagers 🤣

Yeah I'm pretty lucky as avoided both situations . Well DS was 18 and away at uni

I remember being asked by a child if I was my dc's DGM (I was 51 at the time). I asked the child how old they thought I was and they said 24! Didn't bother me at all being asked as there were DGMs at drop off who were younger than me, it's just how life pans out.

@31don74 @Mariammaom
Some of us are so awesome we do both! 😆 I'm 45 and my kids are 15, 18 and 5. I would not change one thing.

Ditto! 51 here, and kids 16, 14 and 8. 🤩

WhitePudding · 12/12/2025 16:21

I had my first child at 30 and my next when I was almost 36.

AlwaysADramaHadEnough · 12/12/2025 15:49

My youngest is in Year 1 and I'm 36, I was 22 when my oldest was in Year 1

31don74 · 12/12/2025 14:23

My daughter is in year 3 and I’m 52 next month - I’m the oldest mum by about 5 months!!!!!

AutumnOcean · 12/12/2025 13:24

My child will be in year 1 beginning of next year and I've just turned 36

ThatNaiceMember · 12/12/2025 12:15

I was 32 with my eldest and 39 with my youngest 💖

honeylulu · 12/12/2025 12:08

When my first child started year 1 I was 36 which was (I think) average or maybe slightly younger than average - though the older mums tended to also have older children too.

Youngest child, I was 45. Certainly in the top half age-wise but still not the oldest.

In both years there were a few mums still in their 20s but mid 30s to early 40s was the average I'd say.

FartyAnimal · 12/12/2025 11:47

I was 41 when my son was in year one. There were plenty of others a similar age.

Striptlytiger · 12/12/2025 11:46

I am 46 and have a 5yr old in Year 1. I am sometimes mistaken for his grandma (sob) but I look at some of the really young mums and feel so glad I did all the things I wanted to do and become financially stable before having my children. I'm not the oldest mum in the year 1 group either!

lilkitten · 12/12/2025 11:45

When youngest started Y1, I would have been 41 and 9 months. I still don't feel old at 47 tbh

Airspice · 12/12/2025 11:19

I was 42 and 43 when mine were in Year 1, I was quite the oldest, a couple in each year were older than me and tbh I’m quite ‘young at heart’ so the younger ones (ages 24-40s) became my friends too.

bearbabybear · 12/12/2025 09:59

Also 42 but she’s the oldest and I also have a one year old so I’ll be even older by then.

Fratch · 12/12/2025 09:52

I was 42 and 45 respectively when my two started Y1. I don't think it made much difference to me or the children.
