Is there anyone on here who voted Labour who is genuinely happy with how things are going

I didn’t vote Labour, but was actually quite excited. We needed change, now I dint think that at all and although Tories weren’t great in many respects, this shit show feels worse! I’m so tired of our politicians just not doing what is best for the country and having to curtail to babk benchers/unions, lining their own pockets and wardrobes and generally just being untrustworthy.
i have no doubt Farage will get in next time, and it will be Keir’s fault.

What did people expect, with the utter shitshow that was inherited by them?

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏but the adults who are left to clear up the mess left by uncontrollable toddlers are never popular and are now it seems being blamed for the mess!

Well, that's quite the intelligent and erudite rebuttal, I'm convinced

Nail on the head. It’s all about maintaining the status quo.

Can you say more about the policies that impact oligarchs rather than SMEs and middle earners?

eg NI policy, revaluation on hospitality, tax banding which doesn’t hit top rate and so on. Who is paying more?

Audiprettier · 02/12/2025 19:00

Onlyontuesday · 01/12/2025 08:47

I'm happy with them but think they are awful at communicating what they do. Change takes time and the country's resources and infrastructure are in the pits.

They are doing good work in reducing NHS waiting times.

We have the fastest growing economy in the G7 and falling interest rates.

Immigration is down from 640k last year to 204k.

I think the farmer's inheritance tax and private school taxes were fair. The most budget hasn't benefitted us personally (both higher rate tax payers) but it has been received well by the markets.

I do wish they had managed the PIP and WFA reforms.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The CBI represent less that 2.5% of all businesses, many businesses quit the CBI because of sexual hounding of female staff by CBI directors.

Businesses had a rates holiday during the pandemic, they should have realised this wasn't going to last but because they didn't plan for that, there are changes coming in next April that will mean most hospitality businesses will see lower bills.
Another thing the Tories never bothered with funding, they just extended the holiday, never dealing with the issue.

On polling, i see Reform are down across a range of polls, just 7pts ahead of Labour/Tory.

I guess most Brits don't like Russian money

I think the hatred for Labour is driven by wealthy vested interests who own most of the regular media and social media, have vast capital available and want to ensure that inequality is maintained (“Conserved” perhaps), and seek to undermine our government in the interest of these oligarchs.

Some of that influence is domestic, but a lot of it is driven by oligarchs in both the US and Russia, paying their mouthpieces & political representatives in Britain.

Sadly it seems a large number of British people have been duped by this, and continue to be duped by this.

OmNomShiva · 02/12/2025 17:42

Elaborate please, do the CBI / Hospitality folk not want to pay people fair wages ?

1/3 are at risk of closure due revaluation. Going back to your pp it’s really not nefarious oligarchs but in this case Majorie who has been running a tea shop for 15 years and doesn’t want it to close, for example. Plenty of press on that in the last week.

CBI did a vg recent conference speech which you can read.

And then policies around benefit cap / digital ID which are not liked.

I can understand people advising Labour along the lines of your post but they really would be missing the everyday person and their feelings.

EasternStandard · 02/12/2025 17:39

You’re against the grain then. Look at the CBI and hospitality U.K.

Ok, so minimum wage has gone up and will go up again (and the lower rates for younger people are being phased out).

This means that people on minimum wage or near minimum wage, will be able to borrow more towards a mortgage.

Annual wage growth is now just about outpacing house price growth.

So add in the rent reforms that come in the affect soon, are going to mean both that people who rent have more rights,
with fewer rent increases and are also widely predicted to lead to some landlords selling up.

It’s not fixing the hugely broken housing market over night, but it is making things just a bit less tough for some people, There’s a cumulative effect there that will allow some people to get their heads above water, get some breathing space.

Both disasters I genuinely think the world would be a better place if Labour party had chosen the other Miliband...

oh it wouldn't have mattered, the press would still have turned on him and the discussion would now be "..if only Labour had chosen the other Miliband!"

When Corbyn was leader, the talk was all "If only Labour had elected Starmer" the press only really went for Corbyn after he almost upset the apple cart in 2017.

Now look? the moment he became PM or looked like he would be, the press went for him.... Donkeys/property developer/the Sir slurs/the son of a tool maker... online, he is accused of being gay, hiring rent boys, having a trans son & hating women, both which have appeared on here.

They ve done the same for many senior ministers, the latest now is Reeves and Lammy, before them, it was non stop about Rayner.

Corbyn was never PM

Johnson on the other hand......

Caught out lying over and over again but it was his appointment of a known sex pest that was a step too far.

Talking about standards.

When you are in a hole stop digging. The EHRC found that the Leader of the Opposition acted unlawfully in the way he managed antisemitism in the party. I'm beginning to think you might agree with him.

So no evidence he was expelled for antisemitism then or that he was antisemetic. Be carful what you allege.

Starmer blocked Corbyn from standing as a Labour candidate but the reason he was expelled was because he said he would stand as an Independent.

You were incorrect with your original assertion, that he was expelled for his antisemitic views...... its you who need to stop digging and move on.

Bumblebee72 · 02/12/2025 09:19

Whistonia · 02/12/2025 08:18

the report you posted re Starmer was about suspension not expulsion. You claimed Corbyn was expelled for antisemitism, which he was not. There is a difference btw suspension and expulsion. And in any event, Corbyn wasn’t suspended for antisemitism but for comments he made about a report into it which have since been proved to be true. It says that in the article you posted!
Any comments on Starmers treatment of Diane Abbott?

Sure I can google that for you. It is on the labour party website.

The Forde Report – The Labour Party

or the EHRC

Investigation into antisemitism in the Labour Party

But sure believe that Corbyn was expelled from the party because he lost the election if you want to. Parties don't normally expel their leaders.

You were looking for evidence Corbyn was expelled for antisemitism or that he was antisemitic and have not posted evidence of either.

I’m still feeling the relief that it’s not conservatives or reform: an extremely low bar, I know, but Johnson was so awful, and Farage is the devil incarnate. I’ve no time for Cheshire Cat grinning politicians who promise miracles: give me boring, sensible and even gloomy any day. In general, I’ve distrusted all politicians since Tony Blair, but the ones who over-promise are always up to something, in my book.

I’m still giving Labour the benefit of the doubt, and I haven’t forgotten that they clamoured for lockdown, lockdown, and more lockdown. The Tory-owned press will never be on their side, no matter what they do, so I don’t form my opinion based on mainstream media. Because Johnson kept promising short-term results (“get Brexit done”, “normalish by Christmas”, “build back better”), people are expecting the same from Labour. Lots of people are moaning about the budget: while I resent paying tax at all, under the Tories, wealth kept moving up, and up, and up. Something in the opposite direction is overdue.

Yes, Starmer is a terrible communicator, and is not offering hope at all. But I think we need a period of “make politics boring again”, and being governed by someone who looks vaguely adult-like, unlike Johnson, Farage and Trump: that sort of clown-like politics is becoming dangerously normalised.

Yes, Farage is a worry, especially if Labour don’t mange the quick fixes everyone is hoping for. But it’s a good thing that there are a few Reform councillors in place: they are falling apart. We are getting the sneak preview. It’s not widely reported, because of the right wing press. But I have some hope that Reform may prove themselves totally unfit to govern, before a general election.
