To complain that my pizza wasn’t cut for me?

OMG get a life. Some right nit pickers on here. If mumsnet have an issue with people posting on old threads then they should disable comments on the thread.

Just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should. How tedious for others to get half way through a thread only to realise that it’s from last year.

You can post on what you want unless there is arule about not posting on old thrteads.

I own multiple pizza cutters. which is great if i'm at home. Not so great if I'm ordering from a hotel!

Which is why I have a tiny bit of sympathy for the OP as I often order a pizza if I'm working away and staying in a hotel. I wouldn't complain though!

Can’t believe what I just read. Does the OP own a knife and fork? If so, put your fork in the pizza to steady it, then use the knife to cut a slice. There you go, well done! You can even decide for yourself how big the slice should be! Every day’s a school day.

It always seems so obtuse when someone insists that a thing can only have one name 🙄, but then I remind myself that not everyone travels outside of their own country, or their own village and that some posters might not understand the phrase being discussed is genuinely Italian, having been named pizza pie by Italians and adopted into American English.

I hope can we all just agree it's delicious?

You can see perfectly well that the poster is referring to the US. I wouldn’t call a pizza a pie either, but I can work out that not everyone is the same.

I much prefer if a takeaway does not cut my pizza! Sometimes Pizza Express cuts it into 6 slices! I feel robbed of my other two slices, or try to cut the 1/6 in half.

Never, ever go to Pizza Express. Even if you're eating in, they don't cut up your pizza. Really. They literally give you the pizza on a plate, next to your knife and fork, and it's all in one piece. They do it deliberately. Then they all stand around - cooks, waiting staff, manager, all round the table - and they watch you cut it up yourself, smirking and nudging each other. It's just grim. You couldn't make it up. There ought to be a law. The world's gone mad. I blame Sadiq Khan.

Mind you, their tiramisu is to die for.

Italian immigrants to the US called pizza, pizza pie, as pizza was unknown there, but pie wasn't. Pizza pie was coined so it wouldn't sound so foreign.

As for savoury pies, chicken pot pie is the most popular. But, you are right that sweet pies dominate.

There is/was a thing called calzone though, which is rather like a pie. Not sure why anyone would want one though

Pizza Pie is an annoying term. A pizza is a pizza, not a pie. Americans don't really even eat savoury pies so I don't know where it came from.

A pie is not a pizza. A pizza is not a pie.

Typically, that's because a pie is for one person and you cut your desired pieces to how you prefer to eat it. Take away is often cut. This can vary by restaurant or region.

But, Papa John's is an American chain and the customary presentation is to cut a pie into serving slices, so it isn't outrageous to be annoyed it wasn't served as expected as the expectation was correct.

Obviously, it's not a huge problem and OP said that. "Complain " might've been the wrong word, but surely bringing it to the shop's attention wasn't incorrect? The manager's sarcasm is worthy of a complaint, though. The attitude is against Papa John's code of conduct and mission to provide excellence. Customer's have a right to expect a superior product and service in all respects because that is exactly what Papa John's promises. That's the brand.
