So for background im a single parent of 3. 2 uni age kids, one older but has additional needs. All 3 live with me still. Im supporting all 3 more or less full. Their father is no contact and has been for over a decade.

I work full time and earn a salary of £40k. Which on paper is ok. In reality, more or less funding 4 adults, not so much. The kids contribute what they can. They pay for their own items. My eldest works part time which is about as much as he can manage. But its not enough. My wage doesnt stretch far enough. I run out of money every month. Theres rent bills heating food etc all falls on me and i cant survive. Theres no luxuries. No fun. No anything. When they move out ill manage but at the minute its impossible. And i cant expect them to contribute more. The eldest doesnt have the capacity and the other two need uni to be the priority they are both doing courses that are intense and do a lot of work outside of lectures.

Im single. However. I have a friend who i hook up with. Its safe. Hes safe. But i have no desire to live with someone and share a life. We date, kinda, go out for drinks sometimes or the cinema, hook up, and have fun.

The idea is he manages an account i make. He makes vids, edits, promotes, markets etc. I do the chats, conversations etc in the eve. We split anything earned, more to me. My suggestion not his. All my idea.

i know its not guaranteed money, infact the opposite, it takes a lot of effort to make something. He has the time to market etc. i dont. It would be faceless. I wouldnt put my face out there. But pretty much anything else goes.

I just cant manage at the minute. Earning more in my role is impossible at the moment. Theres no second jobs i can do. No local bar work. I dont drive. I have no “talents” for an etsy side hustle. I dont have the money to buy equipment to start a printing side hustle or something. I dont have the time for much around my job at the moment. Theres just not other way to make money. Im out of idea and i need to make a few hundred a month to keep my head above water now im funding 4 adults alone pretty much.

The concern is obviously my kids, even though they are all adults. We are a pretty liberal open family and discuss anything and everything. Id probably tell them, but its still a worry.

Would you do it? Could you do it? Have you done it? Can you suggest an alternative?

There are several possibilities here.

  1. Get your first year uni DC to work more hours and contribute more money
  2. Hold fire till your third year uni DC gets a job - they'll be graduating shortly unless they're doing a crazy long course like architecture
  3. Ask one or both DC to investigate uni hardship funds
  4. One of you to work part-time in a supermarket - you'll get a discount off your groceries
  5. DC could try tutoring. Much more lucrative than bar work
  6. Get help from Citizens Advice with a further PIP application.

OF is another opportunity for men to objectify women. Porn use has risen dramatically in recent years, as has porn addiction. These both have negative effects felt in bedrooms up and down the country. Do you really want to be part of that dynamic?

Bikenutz · 18/06/2026 07:01

You sound sad and stressed 💐

Maximise your income in other ways first. I would advise you to make an appointment with Citizens Advice - ask them for a benefits check, and in particular mention the PIP for your child. You might be still within the window to appeal that decision - it might be that with the right support they could get PIP - you have to consider their worst day - not a typical day. Also have a look at your local council’s website for information about cost of living help.

Give Jenine_kayely a follow on Instagram for “Feed your family for a fiver” ideas. And get your family involved in taking turns to shop and cook. Be like team as well as a family. Tell them that the cost of living is biting and see if they have any suggestions too.

Fangverse · 18/06/2026 05:05

Working out your finances is stressful, and I’d look at every angle before jumping into anything big. I once used OnlyFans reviews to get a clearer picture of how the platform works, how creators actually earn, and what the day‑to‑day looks like. Seeing the data helped me think through boundaries, anonymity, and whether the effort matched the payout so I could weigh things with a cooler head.

TwoTuesday · 19/11/2025 13:51

Jesus Christ OP it's sex work. How do you think your kids would feel that you were doing that? Maybe they need to contribute more? How many more years of uni do you have to pay for, and are they getting their full loans and so on?
Can you move in with your bloke to share costs? Surely that's better than OF. Can he help you out with money? Especially as he's not keen on the idea of OF.
Can you retrain for a better paying job or take on casual work. Pet sitting, exam marking?

SlicedDicedSmashed · 19/11/2025 13:42

Look at food waste reduction app called Olio for FREE food

Look at food reduction app called "Too Good To Go" you pay a small amount & sometimes receive loafs of food

Switch your bank account & some banks will pay you £200
Look on Money Saving Expert website

Your children need to contribute more into the household. If they lived away at uni, they would have to feed themselves.
Potatoes
Rice
Pasta
Bread

Do all this before Only Fans !

With no young children, OP is in a better situation than others who can’t leave young ones at home to work evening/night shifts.
there is also a huge demand in hospitality sector , specially this time of year, supermarkets , cafes pubs , restaurants all hire extra staff to meet demands.
For future ,ubering on e-bikes. Or short online courses, in just about anything can certainly offer more in terms of side hustle than OF ever can.

If you decide to do this (and I sympathise and understand) set clear boundaries …

  1. nothing to identify you (as you say) but check no distinguishing marks etc

  2. nothing to identify the location

  3. ensure no one in your real life but especially your kids lives know

  4. parameters on what you do/show and don’t

do you trust this guy? What if you broke up, would he tell?

This is a good way to start OF is you don't want any subscribers. There are thousands of creators who show their whole body, face, and do anything.

You cannot compete in the market now, thinking you can just pull your bra down, and people will pay.

I dont have an attitude im just desperate. I worked so hard to het my degree as a single parent and now earn over the average. When i started out the idea of earning £40k would change my life, it was a higher salary then i ever dreamed id be able to earn. I left a marriage with nothing, not a penny. No home. No belonging. Just me and the kids. I’ve worked so hard to get to where i am in this career. But its meaningless. That £40k i dreamed of earning doesnt give me or my family the life i expected. Every day is a struggle of making sure i have food and electric for the next day. Changing sectors after working myself to the bone is not an option. I cant start again. I have nothing but the degree for the job im doing. No other experiences. No other qualifications.

your comment without knowing the story of what led me to this point in my career is insensitive.

Your degree and your hard work isn’t meaningless OP just think if you hadn’t done it you could be on 25k per year now.
Don’t know if it’s been suggested as I haven’t read all the comments, have you thought about teaching English online?
I’ve met people traveling that do it. Generally they accept any degree and a TEFL certificate. The tefl courses are short and cheap. Voucher sites used to do them but I don’t know if it’s still a thing.
It could fit around your evening & weekend availability. You won’t make much money doing it but it might get you the couple of hundred pounds extra you need per month.
If your good at chatting to different people I think there are sites you can sign up to just to talk to people so they can practice there english.
Good luck OP
p.s don’t do the onlyfans

Disenchantedone · 19/11/2025 08:32

I know you are desperate OP but i honestly think you will regret this. There has to be something else you can do. What about a cleaning job a couple of hours in the evening, or part time care work that works around your main employment. Keep thinking... Just not this.

Bluebellsparklypant · 18/11/2025 19:30

Work from home jobs in customer service/ charity work(paid) that want people to cover evening/night shifts

Its not a job its sexwork

It's the oldest profession in the world.

Andromed1 · 18/11/2025 15:48

You need to use food banks and foodshare groups OP. And get your children to find recipes and cook whatever's available. You can save a huge amount.

madaboutpurple · 18/11/2025 11:00

Hi, OP, friends of mine have told me that part of student life is learning to budget and it is a skill everybody needs. You are not actually helping your youngsters. You could say to them they each have to do the cooking and buying of food for 1 week each and they totally fund any expenses. Otherwise when they do start work fulltime they will not understand budgeting. You are doing them no favours by letting them keep all their money .If you do the online stuff it could damage your reputation with the company you work for .I am wondering why you are letting your family getaway with not contributing. If they decided to study away from home they would have to. For their lives to work well they need to learn budgeting and help you out.

DonicaLewinsky · 18/11/2025 10:55

Daydreamnotbeliever · 15/11/2025 11:46

One is first year one is final year. Its so hard. I know the solution is probably they work more. But i want them to enjoy uni and their free time, make friendships and mistakes, and get the best grades they can. I want uni to be easy for them. Not worry about food and topping up the electric and rent being paid.

That is the solution, yeah. I understand why you'd like them to enjoy their free time and focus on uni, it's just you can't afford to fund that. So they will need to work more.

madaboutpurple · 18/11/2025 10:50

Why not train in running face painting/children's parties. You could make a fair amount of money and it would be legal ,decent and honest. I do think only fans is not a good way to earn a living. It could be the case your company could sack you for being on it and then you would be without your job and salary.

Why not?! She's only risking ruining her whole life and traumatizing herself and her children, for the near certainty of not earning a bean.

Ruining her whole life? Are you always this dramatic?

LostHorizon1 · 17/11/2025 19:44

She doesn’t drive

Crap sorry. Missed that bit

TwinklySquid · 17/11/2025 16:56

Daydreamnotbeliever · 15/11/2025 10:51

If they left home id be expected to contribute. Their student loans are based on my income and the fact they are home. They dont get a huge amount. They have part time jobs. But the rent and food bills etc are all on me. Feeding 4 adults is expensive. Thats my biggest outgoing and what i cant change

You need to get your kids to chip in. You aren’t doing them any favours otherwise.

Either you're a child posting on here that has NO IDEA what the real world is like, or you've been born into an in an extremely privileged position. Either way life hasn't humbled you yet.

Here's your answer - Your comments are idiotic at best. Are you actually for real? If only life was like that. Get a higher paying job?

Some people on here are absolutely clueless as to what life is like for millions of people. I'm regularly amazed at some of the suggestions on here, but this one is definitely the most useless, pointless 'suggestion' ever.

The problem is, the “solution” OP has hit on is no solution at all. She’s not going to solve her money problems on OF. She may as well try to solve them by buying a scratch card. It’s just not a plan.

PP’s suggestion of getting a better paid job was expressed flippantly but is ultimately the only answer. Nobody is suggesting it is an easy thing to do, but it is a much better aim to work towards than the OF idea. (Leaving aside the very concerning stuff about the guy- there are plenty of men out there basically grooming vulnerable women into doing OF- no idea whether that’s the case here but it is a concern.)

Try uber eats? My hubby makes £200-400 a week doing this. Choose your own hours and area

Yea just try it, why not!! I think for the big money you wouldn't get away with being faceless, but for just a top up then I see no reason to not try it

Why not?! She's only risking ruining her whole life and traumatizing herself and her children, for the near certainty of not earning a bean.
