To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

A video has been posted to tik tok a couple of days ago which appears to show david at universal studios with lilys kids. So while she is out promoting the album where she slates him as all kinds of fucked up, her kids are hanging out with him without her there? Its all just weird and I feel sorry for the kids in this situation. Is their actual father even in the picture? Why is he allowing them to be involved in this mess?

I think it's the mockney accent that's pronounced when she sings, where does she acquire that- from the ostentatious Millfield and Bedales private schools? If that isn't the definition of artificial then what is? It's an affectation, which puts me off the music.

It's an amazing album. Yes, Lily Allen is messy. I'm probably the most socially conservative person I know, I doubt I would agree with all sorts of things she has done, but she has a lot of courage to be that vulnerable. Lovely voice, too. I just feel sad for all of them really.

Maybe you can say she's superficial, but many of us are. Artificial seems a bit off to me since, if she is anything, she's excessively honest for her own good. It doesn't seem to me to be constructed and that's always been at the heart of her appeal to those of us who like her.

I'm going to state this very clearly for what is probably the fourth time at this point. I do not think that being damaged excuses bad behaviour. I never said it means a person is any less responsible for their actions. It does not.

Why is she "damaged".or is this just an affectation? I think that pretence is a useless tool as it appears like a checklist of wo s and struggles that ahe believes you have to have for 'good art', those struggles only work as an artistic device when they are authentic. If she is a good singer then why not just run with that?
