To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

Is it her fault that sec workers exists too? What else can this woman take responsibility for?

Yes, it is her, and anyone else willing to treat sex as a commodity, fault they exist. HTH

She always struck me as white trash but I could never work out if she was rich or poor.

Her father is worth about £10 million from films, TV and music

She herself has suffered miscarriages and stillbirth.

Should she have kept the dog even after she realised she wasn’t capable of providing the level of care and supervision it needed?

Regarding the dog, she should indeed have made appropriate arrangements to have the dog re-homed with decent people who could look after it. She's rich enough after all to go to some trouble. And she should have refrained from getting another dog. But she announced she was getting another.

She made it clear that in an act of impulsive vengeance she took the dog back to rescue facility. She referred to it as a "cheapo" dog. "....because this f*ing dog had eaten the passports. And I just couldn't look at her. I was like "you've ruined my life"."

I think she has a personality disorder. I pity her children.

I like this album — yes, it’s a massive F U to David Harbour. I am not going to dissect her character or morals, simply focusing on her music. I thought the song Ruminating is very Charli xcx. I like the upbeat “Beg for Me.” I thought it was clever how the song Tennis sings about a lady Madeline who I’m assuming relates to the person DH cheated on her with… and it then transitions to the song titled “Madeline.”

Raw, diaristic, modern and a reactive account of her marital breakdown… that’s how I’d describe it.

Spookyspaghetti · 24/10/2025 14:23

I’m loving Pus*y Palace, that’s a bop! And 4chan Stan. I’m not a massive fan of her music but all power to her.

It was a terrible look, I can’t imagine seeing what she said willingly. Distasteful and embarrassing

she was putting on a performance as an "edgy" young woman.
Given she is now 40 that's going to be even less believable.

I don't like her or her music. Laughing about having numerous abortions was distasteful, whatever your view on abortion.

You know women don’t have to live their lives based on what medical practitioners tell them
to do though?

Just to chime in here, from a purely physiological point of view, the more abortions you have, the weaker your cervix can become and the more likely you are then to suffer miscarriages thereafter and lose the children you DO want to give birth to.

AngeloMysterioso · 24/10/2025 14:19

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a particular fan, I agree with her on some things and strongly disagree on others. I never meant for this thread to become a dissection of her character, morals or past deeds (or misdeeds, depending on your perspective) but I guess given the subject matter of her album that was almost inevitable.

She seems to be the psycho ex that people say is a red flag if you talk about her.

It's remarkable what behaviours some people will excuse because their favourite celeb is doing them.
I always think that on the Katy Price threads as well.

real life isn’t about judging complete strangers for their life choices.

Why they do things is interesting to consider, but only in a light, curious way. We don’t know them well enough to get deep

judging strangers does nothing apart from make some people feel good their own choices and judgements, and isn’t that interesting tbh.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 24/10/2025 14:16

It was openly known that she cheated on her former husband with sex workers

Yes it was openly known, because she wrote about it in her autobiography.

Not a time in her life she was proud of, but at least she owns her mistakes and doesn't try to sugarcoat or make excuses.

CrazyCatMam · 24/10/2025 14:16

What would stun me is if she quietly disappeared from the public eye.

Lily Allen opening her gob with the sole intention of getting as much attention as possible, while sticking the boot into someone else? It’s what she’s done from day 1.

Everything she says is designed to be a headline.

SteakBakesAndHotTakes · 24/10/2025 14:12

It's her own experience and she can talk about it how she wants. She wasn't laughing at the process in general, just what she personally went through. If you don't agree with it, that's fine - otherwise she could then equally accuse you of not being allowed to say it's terrible and traumatic because that wasn't true for her.

And I am allowed to strongly disagree. The way in which she spoke about it wasn't acceptable and you wouldn't be saying this if it had been miscarriage, but because abortion is sometimes a choice, it's fine. There is a way to make light of a situation and that wasn't it, it was distasteful and offensive. I didn't say her experience wasn't true, I said the way she made fun of it publicly wasn't okay, the two are very different. And it has thoroughly confirmed her as a dickhead to me.

She has had done to her, what she did to her first husband and the father of her children… karma !

Yes this. FAFO

LifeSurvior · 24/10/2025 13:06

Because its not bloody advised as a method of contraception!

Contraception is supposed to actively stop you getting pregnant not have operations, procedures or medicine AFTER you are pregnant, thats a completely different area of healthcare.

No medical practitioner would advise to a woman, yes go ahead we recommended using abortion as your contraception🙄

Well, neither is douching, withdrawal, 'tip play' and various other practices -- mostly because they are extremely unreliable.
Not so abortion.
And the morning after pill could also be seen as an abortifacient. If people are using methods like that and counting them as terminations, I can see that someone might lose track.

SteakBakesAndHotTakes · 24/10/2025 14:12

SnailMama · 24/10/2025 14:07

And I don't, but publicly laughing at abortions isn't okay. I know someone who had a miscarriage and wasn't upset by it, would it be okay for her to make light of miscarriage in the same style Allen did? No. Just because YOU found it unobtrusive, doesn't mean that it is acceptable to then joke about it like that, abortion is incredibly hard for many women.

She cheated on her first husband with sex workers. This isn't a poor woman to feel pity for lol. She very much has caused significant pain and harm to partners. The situation with her most recent ex feels quite a lot like karma tbh. Not saying I'd wish that pain on anyone, but if she can dish it out she can take it. I would actually think less of her for trying to paint herself as a victim and expecting the public to conveniently forget everything she's done.

I think the album is great.
I'm a bit on the fence about Lily, but it sounds like she agreed to an open relationship for him and it went very badly.
I can sympathise with this, I (admittedly in my very early 20s, not mid-30s) agreed to a similar agreement because I desperately wanted to be with the charming, charismatic older man - who it turned out was a very damaged, mentally unwell, addict. I'd have bloody loved to have written an album and dragged him through the mud.

SnailMama · 24/10/2025 14:07

AngeloMysterioso · 24/10/2025 14:02

Whereas mine was not a difficult decision, not a laborious process and aside from perhaps half an hour of discomfort, not particularly painful. But neither my experience nor yours should be a reason to judge what other women should or shouldn’t be allowed to do.

The main reason I detest her is because she got rid of her dog in revenge because it was a puppy and chewed passports. Obviously unsupervised by her. But what sort of person takes vengeance against a rescue dog that you can't look after properly. And the fact that she spoke about it so openly showed her psychopathic nature.

Her abortion methods and the blithe way she spoke of them also seem to indicate an incapacity for much feeling - for those many women who've lost babies or can't get pregnant for example.

She also exaggerated massively the number of people who lost their lives in the Grenfell tragedy in order to virtue signal.

No sympathy from me.

Forgot about what she said about Grenfell! That was disgusting - she used the victims' deaths for attention, and managed to confuse a lot of people's understanding of what happened by lying about it. I don't know how her career survived that.
