To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

Is this the same lily Allen who bragged about not knowing how many abortions she has had, also cheated on her first husband? Yeah no thanks. She had one good song, and has been riding off the coat tails of her father.

Are you only listening to the artists who are morally incorruptible and never drink, do drugs, cheat; cause, or God forbid, have unwanted pregnancies? I guess pretty much all contemporary music is banned in your house?

Reading comprehension on this site is abysmal.

She can, and should, be blamed for using prostitutes.

Isn’t it funny how on mn, there’s (understandably) uproar about men watching porn, but a woman using sex workers is fine and dandy?

It would absolutely fine for your friend to make light of her own miscarriage. People can cope and reflect on situations as they wish. As far as I know LA wasn't laughing or mocking anyone else's experiences, she made a glib comment about her own experience. You say you're not judging while pontificating certain things point blank aren't okay, just because it's not how you would speak about your own experiences. Thats judgy!

I said I don't judge women for their abortion choices, or how many they have. But I do judge her comments yeah, because I thought they were crass about a seriously emotive subject. I have admitted that I have judged her comments, I am openly judging her abortion comments, right here. I think they were disgusting to laugh, the pair of them, in the way they did. As I said, there are ways of being lighthearted about such subjects and I think theirs was not it.

Equally, you are judging my opinion about it. I am free to judge her public comments, as you are free to judge my public comments here, and you very much are.

Or...their mother is an artist who has been through some genuinely traumatic things and used them to make a stunningly original and striking piece of art that will no doubt get global interest and acclaim? Hopefully, they will be proud of that.

It’s hardly original

AngelofIslington · 24/10/2025 16:15

Sorry so she’s pissed off that he had sex with someone who wasn’t a sex worker whilst they were married but she’s happy to have sex with Liam Gallagher whilst he was married?
I really hope her first husband plays a huge role in the parenting of her children as LA is a shit role model for them.

HailtotheBop · 24/10/2025 16:13

Not a fan of Lily as a rule, but I had a listen to the album today after hearing about the incendiary lyrics. Aside from a couple of tracks that aren't my cup of tea, it's really good.

Unrulyscrumptious · 24/10/2025 16:11

SnailMama · 24/10/2025 14:07

And I don't, but publicly laughing at abortions isn't okay. I know someone who had a miscarriage and wasn't upset by it, would it be okay for her to make light of miscarriage in the same style Allen did? No. Just because YOU found it unobtrusive, doesn't mean that it is acceptable to then joke about it like that, abortion is incredibly hard for many women.

Edited

Too late!

Sadly…

I listened to some of it this afternoon...absolutely loving it. Go Lily!

I mean... I have very little idea about how she is as a parent, or how any of this has impacted her kids (of course, it will, but maybe she is excellent at mitigating the harm with other strategies). I don't think that making a very good album is an indication of anything other than that she has a lot of talent and drive, and good for her, she is using that.

I actually hope she does really really well because the lift, hopefully, will help her so much mentally. When we are all happier we tend to make good choices :-)

We have very diffrent views of good parenting then.

Emotionally screwed up artists leading chaotic lives rarely make good parents.
They may make good art, but they hurt their children.

Lily Allen doesn't even make good art. She's just hurting her children.

I agree. She is not perfect, smart, or even particularly nice, but she is very likable and her lyrics stick with you. She is just someone who tries her best to find happiness, and has no idea how to do that - and is very frank about herself and others. I do think its a talent, not many people would be able to be this open even if they tried - also, not many people would have anything entertaining to sing about (like a lot of virtuous ladies on here - would would you sing about? Shopping in M&S?)

I love Lily Allen. And think she’s one of the hottest women alive.

I don’t give a fuck how many abortions she’s had.

She’s a trailblazer

imho, this is a marketing strategy: she sees Taylor Swift's success on the back of the same lyric-driven music focused mostly on dissing her exes and the pound sign dings!

She was doing it way before Taylor swift, just less successfully. She’s been slagging off her exs in her music since 2006 😂

What?! It's an awful medical procedure that's unnecessary if you are a responsible adult and use birth control!
There's a cost to your body and to the NHS, though I suppose Lily wouldn't consider that.

<sigh> I’ll take these points in order

1- it’s not “an awful medical procedure” an early termination is straightforward, simple, and (for me at least) relatively painless. Couple of tablets, half an hour or so of discomfort, pregnancy terminated, boom done.

2- Being a responsible adult doesn’t preclude accidental pregnancy. Condoms split, hormonal contraception and contraceptive devices aren’t safe or suitable for everyone for various reasons. Some people for whatever reason just aren’t great at regularly taking medication- I’m supposed to take thyroxine every day for an under active thyroid but thanks to my raging ADHD I frequently forget, and I need that stuff just to function at a basic level!

3- the “cost” to your body of a termination isn’t always greater than the cost of using hormonal birth control. I tried the pill- I put on a tonne of weight (and also, again, regularly forgot). I tried the implant- I had raging mood swings, bled constantly and had awful acne. My termination was a walk in the park by comparison!

3- the cost to the NHS of a termination is considerably lower than the cost of antenatal care, childbirth, postnatal care, 18 years of free prescriptions and dental care and a whole lifetime of free NHS care for a baby>child>adult.

4- I obviously don’t know for sure, but I would guess Lily
obtained her terminations through private healthcare providers and not her local NHS family planning clinic.

She's awful, but you have to admire that she doesn't attempt to conceal it! I've just listened and I have to say I think it's very very good 😳

This is what I quite like about her. She’s unapologetically fucked up and takes everyone on the journey

Tryingatleast · 24/10/2025 15:44

There’s a clip floating about of how their break up broke her, it’s so sad, awful that I assume he must be an asshole without knowing the details.

Ellerby · 24/10/2025 15:43

Lotsnlotsoflove · 24/10/2025 15:16

And she had not long before given birth to a stillborn child in the full glare of the tabloid media (in her autobiography she describes how journalists were calling her as the dying baby was stuck in the birth canal), immeditely after that she had two children in quick succession (one of who was extremely ill at birth) and then had to write, record and tour an album, away from her kids, in order to stop her house being sold to pay the taxman (and then had to sell the house anyway). I mean, apart from anything else, judging her by the same standards as you judge someone not living in that spotlight of fame and trauma is a bit silly and simplistic.

and then had to write, record and tour an album, away from her kids, in order to stop her house being sold to pay the taxman

Well, yes. We all have to pay our taxes. How does that become part of the hard luck story? If she'd paid her taxes, she would have kept her house.
