To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

So is it ok to listen to the Lost Prophets? Or Gary Glitter? Even a bit of Michael Jackson?!

Ok, am being flippant granted, but people are allowed to not like a person therefore steer clear of their work. I cannot stand Jude Law (due to an altercation with him) so I avoid any films he is in though I know he is a good actor and the film probably enjoyable.

Lily Allen - how she lives her own life doesn't bother me but for some it will. We all have different levels of what we find acceptable.

Edited

FFS, are you comparing Lily Allen to a child raping nonce??? That's a bit extreme, don't you think? I do listen to Michael Jackson, as he hasn't been imprisoned for raping a baby. Though I do get people not being too keen on Jerry Lee Lewis, for example, even though what he done is legal in some parts on the USA.

Of course you can not listen to Lily Allen for whatever moral reason you choose but is she the only one you avoid? Are you going with the same nit comb through the biographies of other rock stars, or are you only interested in female ones that happen to be the latest tabloid fodder?

Yes I agree. We can only speculate but I presume he sold her a dream and no matter how recovered she might be, she may still not be immune to charms of a man offering a fairytale.

i feel for her and i really feel for her girls because she has been incredibly candid and raw and although i have experienced mental health blips as a single mum, (including low episodes when a relationship has imploded )
I have never expressed any of my dark thoughts or fears and I would hate to think of them worrying about me.

i grew up with mentally and emotionally unstable parents were there was addiction issues etc and its had a lifelong impact on me ,
I lived much of my life in pure fear, fight or flight and a state of panic and nothing was secret or sacred, i knew way too much, before i was able to understand any of it.

i feel for her girls in that regard and hope that they’re living a life where they are protected from the worst of it and with their dad as a safe person for them while she was recovering.

Then maybe parents should teach girls to think and use theit our brains, girls are not immune from being responsible to think for themselves, all this shows is i think she is she has issues going but there is 2 in a relationship and just because thr public may feel they know her more no one except the both of them knows what is was like and the 'she is pure and innocent how could he do that' line that people trot out helps no one

ConstantlyFuriosa · 24/10/2025 21:01

I’m judging her extremely harshly for her treatment of the ‘cheapo’ rescue dog.

As for the album, I’ve only listened to Pussy Palace and quite liked it. Can see it being a massive hit.

I feel sorry for her, and I'm disappointed others don't feel the same - you must have grown up listening to the artists I mention above? So, why is she vilified above others? Bad PR??

Lils, your 40's are awesome. Get out there - they're like your 30's, only with more nouse about what you're facing. You don't need a relationship, love. You need - to be corny - to fall in love with yourself. F everyone else.

What a load of shite. LA is as addicted to controversy as she was to narcotics. Didn’t mind shagging Liam Gallagher and then telling everyone who would listen. Repeatedly. So very desperate to stay relevant she doesn’t care who she hurts whether it’s herself or someone else. Her album and all it tries to tell the listener could be as make believe as Father Christmas because let’s face it, she’s got form.

OMG, people are so.... come on. Who tf is judging a pop music album in terms of artist's moral, their personality or parental skills??? Are you for real?

Its entertaining. Its unusual, its brutal, raw, shocking and funny. I understand if someone says "I dont like her voice" etc - but saying "I wont listen to it because she had abortions and did not regret it, she is a bad parent and cheated on her ex" is completely ridiculous. Since when we became Bible belt Americans? Getting a strong album burning vibe here.

So is it ok to listen to the Lost Prophets? Or Gary Glitter? Even a bit of Michael Jackson?!

Just to chime in here, from a purely physiological point of view, the more abortions you have, the weaker your cervix can become and the more likely you are then to suffer miscarriages thereafter and lose the children you DO want to give birth to.

Completely untrue. This is actually more accurate in relation to subsequent full term pregnancies. This false information leads to fear of a perfectly safe process.

wizzbitt · 24/10/2025 20:44

Wow! Am listening now. Who’s Madeline?!

DailyMaui · 24/10/2025 20:28

Happyjoe · 24/10/2025 12:49

I gave her dad a lift once, he was very hungover. Was all a bit surreal as not a taxi driver.

Horrible though to have private life played out in public, but that's the fame game - can't turn it off when it suits you.

Edited

He was everywhere in the nineties. Off his tits most of the time. I was in the ladies toilets in the Groucho once and a door opened to reveal him grinning like a cheshire cat. He'd got tons of coke and some rolled up notes for us laydeez to participate. To be fair he was a gentleman and was just having a laugh but I cannot imagine him being a great dad.

Much of this is very familiar to me too. As with every creative work, everyone’s experience will determine their response.

I hope this can be her last ‘fuck you’ and she can recover and flourish.

Edit: that sounded less pompously twatty in my head.

It doesn’t sound pompous or twatty .
It’s all we can hope for anyone who has been hurt by life.

Thegrassroots26 · 24/10/2025 19:46

Although it often seems celebs move on to new relationships quite quickly, in some senses it must be harder for them because they’ve got the worry that everyone they date might be after them for their money/status, or ready to sell a story on them to a tabloid.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 24/10/2025 19:29

I'd Imagine her fan club would feel very differently about her choices, if she was male.
meant to quote post, re prostitution, hiring sex workers.
Why is it excused when people with money emotionally damage their DC.
She is a terrible example for her DC and I hope they manage to break the cycle.
Is she still on OF, feet only wearing sexy underwear. 😳

Mangetoutmangetouti · 24/10/2025 19:26

Thegrassroots26 · 24/10/2025 19:14

Not sure why it’s so surprising. Lots of us have grown up with her and care about her as a person and an artist.

As a divorced 40s mum of two teens myself I also love what she says about the dating world and how hard it is. She just honest and flawed. Like all of us.

Agreed. I loved her first album and loved (and emulated) her quirky style, especially the dresses and trainers, I could never walk in heels, she was a breath of fresh air.

She is a real person who has spent a lot of time and energy and no doubt money on learning about herself, her foibles, her triggers, she is definitely a tricky character and I can imagine her being challenging to be around at times but also she seems delicate and sensitive and hurt but trying hard.

and single mumming is bloody HARD, trying to find or keep a relationship is also hard, it sometimes feels like I can’t have it all. But I don’t want to remain single into my pensionable years .

thank goodness the pensioner goalposts keep moving so I have a couple more decades now before I declare myself single for life

Spooky2000 · 24/10/2025 19:22

I love Lily, Taylor Swift and Alanis Morrisette. Katy Perry and Pink - all have written songs/albums about their shitty ex's (and you can throw Amy Winehouse in here, too). For some reason, the press love coming after Lily. I say go for it, girl. Turn off your phone and don't read the press or socials for a couple of months. You'll be alright, still 😉

I remember one of them where she talked about DH being (I think) disappointed that she was so vanilla. She was quite lighthearted. Kind of “he knows I did all this stuff in the past and now I don’t” and laughing. I think a lot of that podcast is going to be seen in a whole new light.

I also acknowledge I’m spending far longer than a woman of my age should dissecting this.

Sometimes a bit of real life stuff from a celeb can be really helpful for various reasons, study of human life, being grateful for someone sharing similar experiences to our own, a distraction from our real lives!

lots of people were younger people when lily came on the scene and all of us including her have been through so many life changing experiences and have become older, it’s an interesting window on a parallel life that’s like ours but not .

i feel sad for her, i did anyway but her glow up of all glow ups always felt to me like she was trying to look happy on the outside and now hearing her songs it seems she was trying to look a certain way to keep him.

i understand how that feels although id never have the money to glow up like her so I live in meek acceptance of my ageing but its ‘interesting’ to see how that insecurity manifests itself when money is freely available

Lilacblu · 24/10/2025 19:16

Thanks for that.. As I said in my other post I used to not be sure about her but I saw her and her sisters thing and I can't say she's any thing negative.. she's seems like a good mum.. she certainly speaks her mind.. she's not fake.. I don't think she's had it easy and I think she now deserves a break... 💕👀😁

Thegrassroots26 · 24/10/2025 19:16

Feel very seen with this quote of hers!

To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Just get the feeling she's quite hard work. Is she still a dog owner? Hope not.

Mangetoutmangetouti · 24/10/2025 19:11

No , not rip off, i obviously misread your post, I thought you were saying that break up rage songs were not common or a reasonably new concept. Ignore me 🙈

also rumours fleetwood mac 🤣🙌🏼

I’ve seen people comparing Allen’s song ‘Madeline’ to ‘Jolene’.

Although I’m surprised people are automatically believing everything she is saying anyway.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 24/10/2025 19:14

She is definitely marmite.
She is not for me.

Ok…but it isn’t particularly like West End Girl in any way other than being an angry breakup album - as in it doesn’t sound the same, the lyrics, vibe and sentiment aren’t the same, the culture being skewered isn’t the same, etc. I hardly think you can say that LA’s album rips off Broken English!

I think you're sinking, you're protecting a lie
And you don't want her thinking that you'd cheat on your wife
You're such a coward, you can't tell the truth
You love all the power but you're not even cute

Oof
