To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

She seems like a vile person. Her constant attention seeking is very annoying.

OMG, people are so.... come on. Who tf is judging a pop music album in terms of artist's moral, their personality or parental skills??? Are you for real?

Its entertaining. Its unusual, its brutal, raw, shocking and funny. I understand if someone says "I dont like her voice" etc - but saying "I wont listen to it because she had abortions and did not regret it, she is a bad parent and cheated on her ex" is completely ridiculous. Since when we became Bible belt Americans? Getting a strong album burning vibe here.

Agreed - you can enjoy clever music without wanting to be the person's friend

I don't think it was about her having had abortions. That's nothing to be ashamed of. It was the bragging/laughing about it.

She didn't brag about it. She just refused to show the shame expected of women.

I do think throwing Liam Gallagher into the equation is a bit unfair. We can’t really equate the then 23 or 24 year old drug and alcohol addict Lily shagging older and much more famous and powerful Liam Gallagher on a plane whilst drunk with 50-odd year old sober David Harbour repeatedly cheating on his wife

So she is female so cant use her own brain? How patronising

AngeloMysterioso · 25/10/2025 00:49

Not all terminations are straightforward. Yes there are risks and complications. There are also risks and complications to pregnancy and childbirth, and you have the responsibility of a baby at the end of it. Lily chose not to take those risks and not to have those babies. That was her choice to make and I will not condemn her for it.

ps I know abortion isn’t <actually> a form of contraception. It was a direct reply to a turn of phrase somebody else used.

Please read the college guidelines on termination of pregnancy before writing stuff like this down on a public forum. Also before deciding what to teach your children ( if you have any). Abortions are never viewed as contraception given the potential associated risks associated with them, be it surgical or medical.

I just read a few of the other posts. I don't judge LA. No skin in the game I don't know her.

What I do know is that not all terminations are straight forward. I am a doctor and have seen the complications. The basis for your arguement as such OP, is not a sound one.

Ireolu · 25/10/2025 00:23

AngeloMysterioso · 24/10/2025 12:55

Why shouldn’t abortion be used as contraception? She can have as many as she bloody likes.

Do we say that about men who treat their partners badly?

Some people do, yeah.

Don’t misunderstand me- I’m saying it’s an explanation, not an excuse.

Dying to know about the altercation with Jude Law!

Threw onions at me, full on rage. Must be pushing 20 years ago now. The onions came out of his shopping bag that he had with him. Funny now I look back but at the time it was a bit surreal and a bit startling. I worked in the media at the time so more than likely deserved it, but I still avoid seeing his face where I can!

yummyscummymummy01 · 24/10/2025 23:57

Looking forward to this. She’s an incredibly damaged narcissist who, unlike most men with the same flaws, is incredibly truthful both to herself and others about who she is.

Cheating is cheating though isn't it? Liam, David and Lily are all cheaters equally imo. They are all aware of what they are doing.

So is it ok to listen to the Lost Prophets? Or Gary Glitter? Even a bit of Michael Jackson?!

Ok, am being flippant granted, but people are allowed to not like a person therefore steer clear of their work. I cannot stand Jude Law (due to an altercation with him) so I avoid any films he is in though I know he is a good actor and the film probably enjoyable.

Lily Allen - how she lives her own life doesn't bother me but for some it will. We all have different levels of what we find acceptable.

Not sure how I feel about celebs airing their dirty laundry in public when there are children involved either, just feels a bit 'off' to me.
It is extreme self indulgence especially when lessons have not been learned, she doesn't care how her words impact on other people. Including her DC as long as she has media attention.

PickyTits · 24/10/2025 23:12

I'm surprised Zoe Kravitz allegation of assault hasn't been mentioned here - Lily claimed in her book that they kissed, Zoe said it was 'an attack'

Lily doesn't exactly go to great lengths to deny the allegation

Azealia Banks also claims Lily was racist towards her but that Lily later apologised for the racist tweets. If I recall correctly Lily had dressed her husbands penis up in 'black face' (can it be called that on a penis?) and tweeted it out to Azealia.

Lily has always been problematic which is why I'm surprised to see her garner so much support on here. A difficult or traumatic childhood doesn't excuse behaviour much later in life.

I haven't listened to her album yet, I'm not sure if I will or not - I'm assuming it to be similar to Beyonces Lemonade album?

You sound quite controlling. You can't tell someone how they can react to your posts, or how they respond. Belittling someone is also not a good look.

I can say whatever I want, so as Lily Allen! You can chose to get on a high horse and say she is below you on some sort of a moral scale. And I can say you are being ridiculous.

Edited

It was a perfect response to your original belittling comment, regarding people's choices and comparing them to bible belt America. And calling me ridiculous for something I've not even said is actually belittling too btw.

Perhaps people in glass houses etc.

I also find amusing your putting words in my mouth. I never said she is below me, am not on a high horse. I was merely pointing out that people do actually have their own levels of what they find acceptable and are perfectly entitled to have them without being compared to religious America which you did.

For the record, I never said you couldn't say anything, I was actually responding to your judgement of others.. are they not allowed to say or think what they want too or is it only a 'you' thing?

It's strange conversing with you because it seems to be shifting each reply and reading into my posts what is simply not there.

localnotail · 24/10/2025 22:47

Happyjoe · 24/10/2025 21:43

Which bit of "I am being flippant, granted" did you not get before you got all outraged comparing with nonces? I guess that passed you by.

I also made a point of people's level of acceptable is different which I guess escaped you too. Some may be anti-abortion, some may not like the way she's spoken about other things in the past. It's perfectly acceptable to avoid the arts of someone they do not like. It's called freedom of choice and it doesn't have to be justified.

The last bit of your post I won't bother to answer because I already said I personally didn't care, this isn't a female thing, or a press thing. Thanks tho.

What a load of shite. LA is as addicted to controversy as she was to narcotics. Didn’t mind shagging Liam Gallagher and then telling everyone who would listen. Repeatedly. So very desperate to stay relevant she doesn’t care who she hurts whether it’s herself or someone else. Her album and all it tries to tell the listener could be as make believe as Father Christmas because let’s face it, she’s got form.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Can someone tell me whether there's a full moon tonight?

Bambamhoohoo · 24/10/2025 21:45

I’m half way through- it’s excellent- clever and original

FFS, are you comparing Lily Allen to a child raping nonce??? That's a bit extreme, don't you think? I do listen to Michael Jackson, as he hasn't been imprisoned for raping a baby. Though I do get people not being too keen on Jerry Lee Lewis, for example, even though what he done is legal in some parts on the USA.

Of course you can not listen to Lily Allen for whatever moral reason you choose but is she the only one you avoid? Are you going with the same nit comb through the biographies of other rock stars, or are you only interested in female ones that happen to be the latest tabloid fodder?

Sorry, haven't RTFT so I don't know if anyone has posted this already, but there was an interesting critique on the BBC today, it mentions that she wrote some of the album as a "character":

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5ypgze4l2zo

Lily Allen attends the Perfect Issue 9 Party in London in September

Lily Allen is 'vicious' and 'raw' on her tell-all break-up album

The star explores the break-up of her marriage to actor David Harbour in a scathing new album.

My first listen earlier made me think “they had an agreement for him to sleep with other people and then she was shocked he developed feelings for one of them?!”

However on second listen I’ve changed my mind slightly. If it was as told in the songs, he called her up whilst she was away working in London and essentially blindsided her by saying he was unhappy and wanted to sleep with other people. Having upped and moved her kids to a different country only a year prior, I can see how she may have felt under pressure to try and stay in the marriage.
