To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

I’m surprised and quite frankly quite shocked that so many here have so few morals. She doesn’t seem to care who she hurts, how her children must feel hearing their mother sing about about her relationships. How they must feel about her sexual exploits and her “contraception”.
Ultimately if you care about your children you keep your mouth shut. The thought of my mother having sex is horrific let alone all the other stuff!!

I think you've wandered here from the 1950s and got lost

It's not like writing songs about exes is unusual, Taylor Swift has made a career out of it.

Youre not wrong - Eric Clapton, Corey Taylor, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, Kanye, Justin Bieber. It’s a fairly safe assumption that if you write songs at some point you’ll write about a break up.

I absolutely do not feel sorry for her one bit. She openly went on a podcast and laughed about how she couldn’t remember how many abortions she’s had …

Shes a pillar of morals and class. Not!

Why do you think you're being required to feel sorry for her?

Another problem I have with Allen's "putting it all out there" approach is that sometimes you can tell she thinks she's coming across as very cool and relatable, with the things she says, but she's actually making herself look terrible. She's trying to aura farm, to make herself seem like the Cool Girl who is just the right amount of hot mess, but ends up making you cringe instead.

It's like when a recovering addict is telling you a story of some wild night they had coked out of their mind, and you find it all a bit seedy and pathetic. But you can tell this story still has a sheen of rock-star glamour for them. They think it makes them sound cool and interesting, and have no idea how they're actually coming across.

I think she is actually intelligent and self aware

Maybe she was laughing at herself not remembering and not laughing about the abortions themselves?

I think such nuances are lost on many people here

I think Lily Allen is fab. Quite humble in many ways & very real about acknowledging her own advantages in life / her mess ups / her weaknesses / her struggles / her views / her privileges.

I honestly don't get the passionate hate so many ppl have towards her. It baffles me.

I reckon if most of us knew her day to day she'd be a good / fun / valuable / supportive person to have around.

And this has reminded me to listen to her new album so thank you v much @AngeloMysterioso!

Even if you are pro choice, it doesn’t absolve you of basic personal responsibility, and shouldn’t strip you of some care for human life, whatever your opinion on abortion It does involve ending an early human life.

A fetus isn't a person though.

A clump of cells is not an early human life.

Why shouldn’t abortion be used as contraception? She can have as many as she bloody likes.

Exactly. How can anyone be flippant about abortion whatever your beliefs it should be treated with respect. I remember when she decided to apologise on behalf of the whole UK because apparently we are all anti immigration.

Maybe she was laughing at herself not remembering and not laughing about the abortions themselves?

Haha how funny.... , I don't have multiple kds, don't use sex workers and I haven't laughed about multiple abortions. You love her, that's fine but god forbid she was a man. All the women on here like you would then be absolutely roasting her instead of apologising for all of her disgusting behaviour. To the Op why thought her lyrics were amazing... Pussy palace??

I don’t love her because I don’t know her. But I love her album. Yes I do.

I love it when posters take a look in the mirror and describe themselves so honestly.

Apparently she thought he practiced karate in the west village apartment.. that’s what she means by dojo.

Thank you.

She uses sex workers she is scum

Not to mention what she did to that poor dog

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 25/10/2025 19:08

Never liked her. Always thought she was a spoilt, middle class, part privately educated entitled attention seeking prat. Very false

And l couldn't"t care less about her and her ex partners.

But she has been off the music scene for a while and needs to sell her new so called, ground breaking album and she will do anything for publicity to sell it.

But the what do would expect from the daughter of prize dick head and chancer Keith Allen.

Go away Lily get therapy and a proper job.

CoralPombear · 25/10/2025 18:59

I just don’t personally like her, rate any of her previous music or feel sorry to someone born into privilege who has still managed to turn their personal life into a public car crash. I’m just one potential listener though, if enough other people feel differently then the album will do well.

SweetcornFritter · 25/10/2025 18:54

She may be a terrible person but she is at least incredibly honest and brave to own up to her failings and mistakes, knowing that so many people who have never met her are going to write the nastiest, most vitriolic hate they can think of about her.

Cherrytree86 · 25/10/2025 18:53

CoralPombear · 25/10/2025 18:51

I don’t know her personally but everything I’ve seen, heard and read about her tend to point to her being a terrible person. I won’t be listening.

@CoralPombear

sorry I didn’t realise we are only supposed to listen to artists considered to be good people…
