Your least favourite shop/shop you've had problems with. Shops you don't go in anymore.

Anything we can learn?

Sports Direct.
No customer service.

Mainly young staff who have no clue about customer service. Like Robots in there. Soulless place.

Clothes that aren't the size they are labelled, so its misleading.
Googled this and apparantely its quite common.
Don't want to give refunds easily when other shops do.

I hate B&M, find it depressing just being in one, draughty, cold, bleak and not even that cheap. And for some reason that I can't explain, all Morrisons.

Absolutely, when you have to take something back because its faulty, what happened to sorry about that.
Sorry you've had to come back.

When there's concern about shops closing, maybe they need to up their game.
Sports Direct have alot of bad reviews on Trust Pilot also.

I notice this too. I took a faulty phone in for repair at Samsung. It isn’t very old. Not even an apology that it’s failed so soon and the inconvenience of bringing it in for repair, then going back to collect it. So rare to have an apology when things go wrong now.

But you have self service tills! We all have to queue behind people with 14506 items and refuse to let you ahead when you have a pack of mushrooms and some cheese coleslaw.

No, there are no self-service tills in Lidl for people who want to use cash. They are changing all the self-service tills to CASHLESS. The manned tills they have open are very few (usually 1 or 2) so people who want to use cash have to use these now.

Usually the queues for the manned tills are massive now that they have changed their self-service tills to all cashless. It's a crap system and is penalising people who want to use cash by making it as difficult as possible.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/10/2025 09:10

Is it mean to say a charity shop?
Local, independent shop raising money for a cat charity. Some of the staff smoke and everything stinks.

Arran2024 · 10/10/2025 09:06

M&S since they brought in self service check outs for the clothes. Why did they think their customer base would want this? And the Sparks card is utterly useless.

Myblueclematis · 10/10/2025 09:05

I've just thought of another shop, M&S. The one nearest to me that sells everything, no longer has a pay till upstairs where the cafe is so if you get something upstairs you have to park your trolley or basket somewhere in the lingerie section so you can use the cafe. I seethe with rage every time I go in there.

I then went to the huge M&S bit further afield and lo and behold, the same bloody thing. No tills upstairs!

I long for the olden days when you could go into stores and find several tills where you could pay for your goods, you didn't need a map and a compass to locate the only pay till in the place!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 10/10/2025 08:52

IKEA.

Never, ever, ever again.

ilovepixie · 10/10/2025 08:44

Argos. Terrible customer service. Bought a robot vacuum, it didn’t work. Took it back after 3 days and they told me to contact the manufacture or they could send it away to been examined. Took 3 days talking to customer service online chat to get it sorted.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 10/10/2025 08:43

ASDA. Like shopping in an aircraft hangar. Makes me depressed.

Tesco. Don’t know why, I just hate it.

Sports Direct. The smell. The jumble sale presentation. The utter contempt I sense from the staff (don’t blame them, I’d be in a permanent bad mood if I had to work there).

Urban Outfitters. The fact I feel like Methusalah’s mother as soon as I walk in.

PurpleChrayn · 10/10/2025 08:43

Lush.

Terror supporters.

ContentedAlpaca · 10/10/2025 08:41

You know those security things that make a clicking noise that they attach to products? I can't be near those.
In our Dunelm, they put boxed duvets with them on , on the same shelves as all the covers so that ruled out lots of aisles I just couldn't go down.
Tesco can be the same with their electronics.

Lush. It took me 3 separate visits to buy some solid perfume. I just wanted to stand there on my own and work out which I wanted but each time I went in I had someone stood there making me smell things I wasn't interested in and I left empty handed. Just leave me alone.

Bundleflower · 10/10/2025 08:40

Asda. Shockingly shit wine. Don't like the colour of the floor tiles. Checkout staff in my local one will have you stood at the till for 15 minutes whilst they have a natter - not joking. Last time I politely apologised for interrupting but explained I had to get back to work so could she please pop my items through the till. Jesus - that did NOT go down well. Half the self service tills flashing red or orange despite no one being on them. The other half with people stood there waiting for assistance and a queue that spans half way up the adjacent aisle. Crap selection of salad.
Handy to grab children’s clothes though.

TMMC1 · 10/10/2025 08:36

That’s an easy one, Smyths Toys.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 10/10/2025 08:34

Thought of another one. A local boutique which sells a random mixture of clothing. I have a friend who likes to shop there.
You cannot enter the shop without the salesman asking what size are you?
Eh? I’m not even buying anything mate, I’m just here with my friend.
Next it’s, this is new in, the colour would suit you, look at the quality. Hmmm yes very nice. Do you want to try it on? Not really, I don’t want a jacket.
Oh, how about some trousers? What size are you? How about these lovely grey tweed trousers?
Err no thanks, I don’t want any more trousers.
What about a dress then? This one is lovely and just your colour. Hmm, no it looks far too long for me, thanks. Well, we do have shorter dresses ……

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 10/10/2025 08:21

I agree about Lush. I no longer go in. Feel like a gazelle amongst hungry lions. As soon as you enter they pounce. Asking what you want, questioning you. What is it for who is it for, do you want x or y? They really, really don’t like you just browsing.
Desperate to sell you anything. Won’t leave you alone.

DancingNotDrowning · 10/10/2025 08:09

Notascouser1990 · 09/10/2025 22:52

@DancingNotDrowning Its to prevent theft, sadly

I get that but if I’m about to spend £150 on a pair of trainers I’d like to be sure they fit Confused

goingtotown · 10/10/2025 08:01

Sports Direct no refunds.
TK Maxx full of rubbish.
Starbucks filthy, especially toilets.
Morrisons dreadful lighting.

TheBlueRobin · 10/10/2025 07:22

Lush

I find it all so overwhelming in there and very expensive and you can't even just browse casually without someone jumping on you 'HELLO DO YOU NEED ANY HELP? WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRY X?'

OfAllThePlaces · 10/10/2025 06:58

SCS the salespeople stalk you around the shop listening in to your conversations and pop up with their own input about a suite. I refuse to go there now after a very appalling experience from one member of staff who wouldn’t leave us alone, even followed us into the car park.

WideOpenBeaches · 10/10/2025 06:53

My local branch of Boots.

The lighting is awful. You literally have to feel your way along the shelves.

They have no chance of me ever making an impulse buy there…

Sunshineandrainbow · 10/10/2025 06:47

The range. So many prices missing and stuff everywhere.

LillyPJ · 10/10/2025 06:45

W H Smith (even though I usually love a stationery shop!). It's felt unwelcoming for ages - gloomy, cramped and hard to find an assistant. If you did get someone on a till, they'd try to flog you extra sweets or something you didn't want. I'm glad they're closing the high street branches.

babyproblems · 10/10/2025 06:41

InveterateWineDrinker · 10/10/2025 00:19

TK Maxx. On two separate occasions I have found fresh jizz dribbling down the mirrors in the men's fitting rooms in the Manchester Arndale branch.

OMG!!! This is absolutely hideous 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

I had a similar issue but it was with returning items. I returned quite a few items but only received a refund for one, and unfortunately as it was using InPost (no other option) there was no confirmation of weight. I complained to them, to PayPal but to no avail. Apparently there was CCTV on when it was returned but when asked to see this, was told that they couldn’t share it due to GDPR rules 😞 I even reached out to InPost themselves but Spirts Direct didn’t even reply to them!

I am too a single mum and it has made me so angry and caused sleepless nights.

These stories need to be taken further about Sports Direct. It’s theft! Shocking. You should all get in touch with each other and contact one of the big consumer groups like resolve. Not ok at all that this has happened to you!! Xx

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 10/10/2025 06:32

Our local post office. I get worked up at the thought of having to go. Unbelievably slow and whilst you stand in the interminable queue you have to look at the most revolting and random tat ever seen which I refuse to believe anyone buys.
