Your least favourite shop/shop you've had problems with. Shops you don't go in anymore.

Anything we can learn?

Sports Direct.
No customer service.

Mainly young staff who have no clue about customer service. Like Robots in there. Soulless place.

Clothes that aren't the size they are labelled, so its misleading.
Googled this and apparantely its quite common.
Don't want to give refunds easily when other shops do.

M&S food sections - colder than the Antarctic, and absurd prices (though the food is generally really good - I never buy it myself, but a friend does 😀😋)

SilverGlitterBaubles · 05/05/2026 14:45

Primark - the synthetic smell and mess makes me want to leave.

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 04/05/2026 22:36

The Asda I go to isn't a bit like that Morrisons on the other hand is.

TheChosenTwo · 04/05/2026 22:25

Asda, always so crusty and grotty and rather bleak.

NormasArse · 04/05/2026 22:24

B&Q makes me feel panicky- I think it’s because I feel hemmed in by the high shelving and lack of windows.

Beeinalily · 12/10/2025 01:19

I've just Googled Trago Mills and it looks great! What's the problem there?

TheTecknician · 11/10/2025 13:35

I remember some decades ago there was a physical branch of the Scotcade catalogue shop on Vicar Lane in Leeds. At the time I really didn't understand what the place was all about and why it was so tiny. Like Thrifty, it was one of those quaint shops my Mum liked. I wouldn't say it wasn't a favourite, it was just a rather peculiar place that to me had no obvious purpose.

Well Sports Direct of course. I occasionally find myself in there for a football or swim shoes or something and end up composing angry letters to customer services in my head.

Plus the local shop where I sometimes have to pick up parcels and it’s a dingy, dusty, filthy and smelly little corner shop with nothing but alcohol and energy drinks and vapes. The bloke says not a word but sits behind his filthy plexiglass screen staring at his phone. The parcels seem to be kept on the floor under his feet. How do some people not even try to run a business?

My parents ordered a parcel to be delivered to a shop similar to this. There was a massive pile of parcels on the shop floor, on the customer side. So anyone could go in and if they recognise a shape and size of parcel and know contents are very valuable, they will steal them.

Now they order to collect from another shop but need to drive there as it’s 1.5 miles away

The Range.
The dismay of seeing piles of pointless seasonal crap.
Had a One4All gift card from buying insurance. 95% of places under this scheme either don’t have a shop/restaurant nearby or have no interest in the contents of the retailer (online and physical).

I needed some pillows. So decided to use the gift card at The Range. OMG! Enter the store and see automated 6ft Santas, the 12ft blow up outdoor displays. Then Halloween teapots, Christmas mirrors, Christmas drink glasses, millions of Halloween decorations.

I just wanted to get my pillows and leave.

Candystripes85 · 10/10/2025 18:02

The Range - absolute dump, crates of unpacked stock always blocking the aisles, smells of BO, half of the stuff on the shelves doesn’t have prices, 14 days return policy and rude staff.

I don't know what it is, but when I go into our local Home Bargains I get so anxious. I don't know if it's the lighting, extra tall shelves that make me feel claustrophobic or what. It's so strange!

I do too. I've always put it down to all the seasonal tatt and the complete waste when it is dumped 6 weeks later.....

deeahgwitch · 10/10/2025 14:41

Yes I find the shop assistants pounce in Lush too @Sparklesandspandexgallore
Leave me alone. I’ll ask if I need help

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 10/10/2025 14:22

Agree Sports Direct is vile. Our local one is dirty, dingy and all staff are grumpy.

I have to say Zara too. They are just so slow on the tills it's unreal. ALWAYS queues. I find the environment jarring and the lighting too bright. I feel instantly stressed in there.

YourPeppyAmberTraybake · 10/10/2025 14:18

TKMax

TK Maxx. On two separate occasions I have found fresh jizz dribbling down the mirrors in the men's fitting rooms in the Manchester Arndale branch.

My God! That’s disgusting. Please please tell me you complained.

brunettemic · 10/10/2025 13:58

Any shop where all the customers in there appear to be experiencing their first day out in the world.

brunettemic · 10/10/2025 13:57

BlackberrySky · 09/10/2025 13:53

JD Sports. All of them really, but especially the ones with a bloody DJ and awful pumping music. The merchandise is universally terrible as well. I only go because my DS likes it.

But my absolute worst experience in any shop was at the one on Oxford Street in London. I get that they have a problem with theft but the measures they take is so far to the detriment of customers its unreal. You can't try on both shoes in the pair and walk around in them, nor are you allowed to carry your stuff to the counter to pay. You have to wait for a staff member to bring it, and it's absolute chaos. Wrong shoes, takes ages etc etc. Hands down the worst shop I've ever been in.

Edited

Agree on the music in JD, I feel like I’m stuck in a weird zone halfway between going shopping and half way between a night out.

Hard disagree on the merchandise in there though. Well, if you’re not into athleisure wear then you have a point.

ContentedAlpaca · 10/10/2025 13:52

Arran2024 · 10/10/2025 09:06

M&S since they brought in self service check outs for the clothes. Why did they think their customer base would want this? And the Sparks card is utterly useless.

Yes I might as well be shopping in a warehouse. I don't go in very often for that reason.

Sports Direct no refunds.
TK Maxx full of rubbish.
Starbucks filthy, especially toilets.
Morrisons dreadful lighting.

I agree about Starbucks. I went into one for the first time last week (mainly for the loo) and it was awful. You needed a code for the toilet so I expected it to be well maintained. It wasn't! Filthy, no paper, no soap, litter everywhere. I won't go into a Starbucks again.

CavvieQ · 10/10/2025 10:46

This makes me feel really mean, but tiny independent shops where the owner is right there in the shop, especially if they're selling products they've made. It makes me feel like I have to buy something, but if there's nothing I like, then walking out with them saying "Thanks" and having to awkwardly reply... noooo. I've seen in a few cities recently shops run by local art/craft collectives, which seems like a much more cost-effective, low-pressure alternative to individual owner-run shops.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/10/2025 10:02

Shops like M&S and Asda who have loads of sizes and lengths of jeans and jeggings but NEVER IN MY SIZE. They have every size except 12 regular so I end up having to buy an extra long and take them up which is a right pain. And naturally all jumbled up on the rail so you can't find anything.

CoffeeCantata · 10/10/2025 09:52

There was a one-off key-cutting and sports trophy shop in my high street (in fact, there still is, but I think it's changed hands). The men in there were the rudest people I've ever encountered - and that's saying something. For a private business it was bizarre - you'd think they didn't want any customers.

I went in twice and then heard from other people that it was notorious for appalling treatment of customers.

I don't think it's justified when it's a chain shop (you should either do your job properly or be honest and leave) but I could understand it more if the staff felt no connection to the business themselves.

It became almost like that notorious Chinese restaurant in Chinatown (in London) where people queue up to experience the outrageous rudeness of the staff! 😀
